"Why do you descend?"

Version 1.32 released March 28th, 2014.

-The Drop is a unique take on the dungeon crawler and follow-up to 2009's The Reconstruction.
-No typical HP & MP monotony. Instead, player and enemy alike have Body, Mind, and Soul ratings which serve as both health and magical power. Knocking any of these to zero means defeat, so spelunkers beware!
-Create your own player character. Choose a race, appearance, starting weapon, elemental alignment, perks, and a background. Or, choose from an array of pre-made characters, including a few familiar faces.
-Randomized dungeons. Hundreds of items, dozens of monsters and spells, and all sorts of weirdness lurks around every corner!
-Use magic and items to manipulate the environment to your advantage. Freeze water to trap foes in place. Set fire to grass to create a smokescreen. Evaporate spilled poison to create a toxic cloud. Electrify puddles of water. Many interactions await!
-Exploit your enemies' fears and emotions. Lull, befriend, or terrorize enemies by using the proper item or spell!
-Experiment with items to discover their properties with interactions like eating, applying, and throwing. A plant that makes you sick when eaten may have healing properties when applied to your wounds instead. Collect them all!
-Use stealth and line-of-sight to your advantage. Sneak up on enemies to attack from behind, or avoid them entirely. But be careful - enemies you can't see can do the same to you!
-Customizable BGM playlist. Add or remove songs from the dungeon's soundtrack, or even import your own music!
-Hardcore mode awaits! A true roguelike experience with permanent death and limited saving available. Do you feel lucky?

THE RECONSTRUCTION (2009). The Drop is a direct sequel to this game, and is set in the same world. Many characters, monsters, and spells are returning, but familiarity with the game is not necessary to enjoy The Drop.

I MISS THE SUNRISE (2012). A prequel to The Reconstruction and only distantly related to The Drop. It's quite different in tone and setting.

The Drop - Version 1.32! New character!

Happy almost-April-1st! If you're reading this, The Drop Version 1.32 is now available for download! Why is this one so special? Well, an idea I've had for some time has finally come to fruition, and hopefully you can wring a few more hours out of The Drop while I'm still working on How Far. Maybe. Anyway, here are the change notes:

-Here comes a new challenger! Dehl Sikohlon is now a playable character! You can choose him from the second page of the "Special Characters" screen at any time.
-Magic Stitch now correctly heals Body health.
-Fixed an issue where it's possible to walk outside of the map in a certain area.
-Fixed a crash bug (again) that can occur after defeating the final boss.
-The final secret character now begins with some Soul-damaging magic as well.
-Removed all floor elements from the final boss' lair. Beware: it's an actual fight now!
-The spell "Calamity" now correctly inflicts Mind damage.
-The spell "Snowstorm" now correctly inflicts Soul damage.
-The spells "Thunderclash" and "Jolt" now has the correct icon.
-Hints should no longer get stuck on the screen after being defeated in Hardcore mode.

Dehl is a challenging character; if Xopi is defeated, he will fall too! Good luck!

I had a fairly easy time in my no item run as well...although I attributed that to being before he increased the difficulty and using the extra backstab and attack traits for my Fihjik.

I wonder if the growth bonus is much more of a help than the lack of items penalty. Although by level six most all of my runs didn't have tons of danger anyway since many enemies are passive. As you go deeper down the difficulty should increase.

Yeah, around tier 3 (floor 12 on average) is when things start to ramp up. Also, bosses don't show before floor 5.

after meeting the dragon and choosing power :D

hmm well either this is way too powerful build or the game is too easy, I only died once in floor 6 (he hit me when I had 1 hp so it was inevitable) and nearly all enemy died with 1 spell (well some had 200 HP and it seems max damage is 199 :P) max damage of enemies was 10 (when my max health was at least 70) (very rare and only from elemental)

...hmm...I'm wondering if the bonus growth rate with no items is indeed overpowered then. He probably didn't expect such high growth rates.

That's similar to my test run but I'd figured it had been fixed when he updated the exp gain. I should have checked on that more. Maybe the bonus growth is getting counted toward multiplying experience gained and the chance of an extra level? Either way yeah that's an INSANELY strong character for just floor 30 holy crap. Even the OP final secret character I had wasn't anywhere near that level of power. Heck, even my own no items run character partly before the update wasn't close to that my gosh, how'd you do that? Must be that extra +0.2 growth that I missed out on. o.O

With those crazy stats, though, I can safely say that it's not that the game is too easy, just that you exploited a build that was't tested enough that got you crazy stats. Because seriously that's crazy. If you want to be confident that the game will feel more balanced, try a pre-made character. Or just don't get bonus growth rates. xD

How much grinding did you do, though? I wonder if that helped out a bit since I typically went down as fast as possible since I was trying to go through as many characters in the time frame.

I just cleared every single floor. I like to explore everywhere my total kill is (as you see) 572 I think this image shows it all, see the total damage done

I did 85544 damage total I killed 572 creature so on average I inflicted 150 damage per creature consider than most creature health is not beyond 100 I overkill most of them.

about grinding as you progress into the floors you encounter more powerful enemies that will give your more exp and essence items, so after just 3 floor after 31 you probably reach my stats.

about growth, not only growth increase the amount of exp but it also give you better stats, it's like having double exp from the beginning plus you gain 8.1 stats (instead of 6) per level so not only my level will be double of anyone else but also my stats will be like triple of others

for the record I killed tezkera in 2 turn or 3 turn and I recieved around 21k exp in each field from it, it's very strange since he only should give me 7500 :O

edit: it seems floor also affect exp gain
I killed this on floor 31

and this on floor 1

edit 2: I guess I know what's happening here, near floor 30 my growth rate reached 2 (I think floor affect growth rate not only exp gain) so this is what will happen I get 1.5 stat per level per field and double exp and my stat's will be triple of anyone else on the same floor.

I want to be distressed, but at the same time, grinding is a perfectly viable option! Especially when you min/max for it! But maybe I can do something that adjusts stats a bit as level increases.

Also, in the postgame (after floor 30), enemy stats increase, including essence granted. It's a formula based on the floor and the creature's "tier."

I didn't really grind that much (clearing every floor dose not sound like grinding, for me it's a natural curse of actions grinding is remaining in same level and killing the same thing), I just think that growth rate is a little too powerful.

edit: well at least I know that the game isn't easy :P I played with moke and it was challenging.

items were necessary and I sometimes couldn't do anything without them (damn Si'shra warden you cost me a lot of time and favor)

Good to know! I was about to do something silly and have enemies scale with your level. I'll hold off on that for now and instead see what I can do about growth rates. If anything. I mean, if someone wants to level like mad and tear through with a custom character, who am I to judge?

Amyway, I already have version 1.1 in the works (physical evidence coming tonight), so keep the feedback coming!

The password is t1wiki (as it says on the front page!) Oh and, good job with that's there so far, Fool! I checked it out and I'm impressed at how thorough much of it is. If you like, I can give you a text dump of the Enemy table so you can have all of the stats/quotes (since my hosting would probably explode if we used images for every single enemy entry).

I hereby present you with the least kill fastest run on the game and also the strongest one who only use water magic (really I only used water)

start

end

I kill whatever I saw until I find the way to the lower floor.

you see growth rate 2.2 is fun since you get more than 4 stat's per level up in that field not 3 :), sadly I forgot to save before quieting and since this was a hardcore (so called) character I lost him :S goodby Ultima

edit: also any growth rate above 2 is kinda useless you won't get more than 4 stats so it was better to use that .2 in other fields
It seems to me that the problem might be the bonus stats conferred by growth rates above 1.0. So, not only are you gaining levels faster, but those levels are also worth more. I can definitely see this leading to a runaway effect at higher growth rates.

Oh, huh, Enlightened + Wing It is actually kind of a loophole abuse, isn't it. If you can't use items, Wing It has no drawbacks.

Thanks! And yeah, that would probably be nice. I would like to at least have an image of the enemy itself, but I've made do with text only for everything else so that should be fine.

anyway some cold spells
Thank you! I'll add them.

not exactly you can use items on the ground and a lot of them have essence and affinity "Wing it" tell you if item heal you or damage you.

between if I want to increase my magic affinity I should use it or eat it? (like snowball that increase your freeze affinity)

Current plan: curb back the growth rate bonuses from the challenge traits, and cap growth rates at 1.5 regardless. Sound okay to you guys? It's not a perfect solution, I know - I want to let the min-maxers have their fun to a degree still.

may I suggest an alternative solution

only 1 stat bonus per level, currently attack, defense, health have unrelated chance to be added as a bonus stat, but with this mechanic you either get attack bonus defense bonus or health bonus. this encourage "the diminishing return" concept and more thinking on char build.

edit: another more complicated solution: first stat have full growth bonus next have halve and next have 1/4 chance of getting the bonus stat (health, attack, defense)

Definitely feasible either way! I'll see what I can come up with when I get home today.

Sorry for the double, but BREAKING NEWS.

A cool dude found a crash bug that has to do with the inventory screen, so I'm rushing the release of 1.1 to tonight or tomorrow. I'll put my original idea into motion for this one, and then try some of the fancier tweaks for a later update. Unlike with IMTS, I don't intend to drop it like a sack of bricks now that it's done, so by all means, keep breaking things!

Well now that you are doing it.

Armageddon
divine/soul damage to area
divine light blind purify
RNG: 4 EFF: 4 cost 40 body

the problem is that spell do body damage instead of soul damage.
Wow, this is addictive. Really enjoyed it and will probably come back to it again until I at least see a boss.
