"Why do you descend?"

Version 1.32 released March 28th, 2014.

-The Drop is a unique take on the dungeon crawler and follow-up to 2009's The Reconstruction.
-No typical HP & MP monotony. Instead, player and enemy alike have Body, Mind, and Soul ratings which serve as both health and magical power. Knocking any of these to zero means defeat, so spelunkers beware!
-Create your own player character. Choose a race, appearance, starting weapon, elemental alignment, perks, and a background. Or, choose from an array of pre-made characters, including a few familiar faces.
-Randomized dungeons. Hundreds of items, dozens of monsters and spells, and all sorts of weirdness lurks around every corner!
-Use magic and items to manipulate the environment to your advantage. Freeze water to trap foes in place. Set fire to grass to create a smokescreen. Evaporate spilled poison to create a toxic cloud. Electrify puddles of water. Many interactions await!
-Exploit your enemies' fears and emotions. Lull, befriend, or terrorize enemies by using the proper item or spell!
-Experiment with items to discover their properties with interactions like eating, applying, and throwing. A plant that makes you sick when eaten may have healing properties when applied to your wounds instead. Collect them all!
-Use stealth and line-of-sight to your advantage. Sneak up on enemies to attack from behind, or avoid them entirely. But be careful - enemies you can't see can do the same to you!
-Customizable BGM playlist. Add or remove songs from the dungeon's soundtrack, or even import your own music!
-Hardcore mode awaits! A true roguelike experience with permanent death and limited saving available. Do you feel lucky?

THE RECONSTRUCTION (2009). The Drop is a direct sequel to this game, and is set in the same world. Many characters, monsters, and spells are returning, but familiarity with the game is not necessary to enjoy The Drop.

I MISS THE SUNRISE (2012). A prequel to The Reconstruction and only distantly related to The Drop. It's quite different in tone and setting.

The Drop - Version 1.32! New character!

Happy almost-April-1st! If you're reading this, The Drop Version 1.32 is now available for download! Why is this one so special? Well, an idea I've had for some time has finally come to fruition, and hopefully you can wring a few more hours out of The Drop while I'm still working on How Far. Maybe. Anyway, here are the change notes:

-Here comes a new challenger! Dehl Sikohlon is now a playable character! You can choose him from the second page of the "Special Characters" screen at any time.
-Magic Stitch now correctly heals Body health.
-Fixed an issue where it's possible to walk outside of the map in a certain area.
-Fixed a crash bug (again) that can occur after defeating the final boss.
-The final secret character now begins with some Soul-damaging magic as well.
-Removed all floor elements from the final boss' lair. Beware: it's an actual fight now!
-The spell "Calamity" now correctly inflicts Mind damage.
-The spell "Snowstorm" now correctly inflicts Soul damage.
-The spells "Thunderclash" and "Jolt" now has the correct icon.
-Hints should no longer get stuck on the screen after being defeated in Hardcore mode.

Dehl is a challenging character; if Xopi is defeated, he will fall too! Good luck!

I don't know much about these kinds of games, and your 3 meter "HP" system is new to me. So you'll see how someone unfamiliar with everything handles your game.

I felt that a few things could have used some explaining, but trial and error eventually taught me everything I need. At first I thought favor was like Fame or Reputation, I didn't realize it was currency. It took a while for me to even notice I could convert dropped items into favor. I didn't know what favor was, and I thought the firesand items I had would be useful for something else. I honestly didn't even notice the option to convert for all other items I picked up for quite some time. And for a while I was using items at random, not realizing that their effects were indicated in the item description. I saw that stuff, but had no idea what it meant.

There isn't much to it, but I think that some kind of small optional tutorial would help people get interested right from the start.

Since I made a custom character, does that mean I'm not actually doing the main story?

I'll probably upload another video of some lower floors.

Link, there is a very well written and illustraed pdf manual included with the download that explains the basics.
Yeah, the manual is pretty helpful if you're confused about anything.
It could be in the game, too. I don't look for manuals before playing a game.
This game is more focused on gameplay - any story for the characters is just their own intro dialog, interactions in the starting area, and an ending. Custom characters do get an ending as well, but it's generic for all of them.

So yeah, you're getting less story, but it's not really a huge deal. It's all optional and mostly for those who played the other games. Just whichever you prefer. The only real 'main' story comes with the final secret character, which you can unlock through any combination of custom, original or legacy characters by using one character of each race.

meisam your not using semicolon properly, and that's a laughing matter.

All of Deltree games have manual witch is very helpful (there is absolutely no unnecessary information) as you said you can use trial and error to understand everything, but you can also use manual.

About items you actually don't see their effect in your first try since you are experiment with them and identify them if you find the same item again you will see their effects (that's probably why you didn't notice their effects).

Personally I don't like such a tutorials because it distract me from role playing it's like learning a program rather than playing a game. I appreciate that Deltree dose not include this kind of tutorials in the game. also there are a lot of in game tutorials or information about the subjects like how to deal with different creatures that you have not seen as a hero.

What can I say; I'm a byproduct of the 80s! Imposing-looking game manuals are par for the course.

No, I did know that you need to use them once to see the info.

I suggested it be optional. Having a tutorial is not by default a long drawn out boring process that distracts a player or interrupts gameplay. Not many people like those.

Having an actual, physical, book of an NES game is cool. Having a digital file, not so much. Get with the times, man. And I wouldn't say it's imposing, more like tucked away. Consider making note of the PDF in the game, in case someone needs help and they don't know where to look.

If it helps, Homework Salesman has both a basic in-game manual with a slightly more detailed pdf one both which help a lot when getting started.
This looks totally sweet. I definitely gotta give this a download!

This is actually pretty addicting. It's hard to get used to at first , but once you do it starts to become a blast and something just compels you to keep adventuring deeper into those dark and mysterious depths! So far everything's Lv.4. Can't wait to get the mini-map, because that would be a mighty handy addition.

I'm glad! You can buy a minimap from Alito (the maroon lizard guy) upstairs.

Also, I will be unleashing version 1.2 this week. Features include a brief tutorial explaining the basics and the interface, random hints on the Loading screen, balance fixes with stun/paralysis skills, some small interface changes, bug fixes, and a listing of a character's "innate" properties on the character sheets. I plan to upload it on Wednesday.

incase you haven't already, I suggest in the end of the tutorial to mention there is a manual in the game folder, I honestly missed it around 3 times.

it's a very nice game so far ^^~ but with all the classes, the fortian seems to be a bit, don't know, overpowered~? his traits and sage background can give him a big advantage than the ohter classes in my opinion

Hmm, you may be on to something. I somehow forgot all about that background choice. (Although my current stance is that custom characters can be as overpowered as you want.) Maybe I will add another drawback. Thanks for your input!
Hey Deltree, this is going to sound weird but: this game actually isn't my thing (not into dungeon crawlers, and I play RPGs for story more than gameplay), but I've tested it out and I think the game design is genius. I'm guessing roguelike players will especially love it, plus the custom art and systems are fantastic. It's really great to see the ambitious stuff you've been doing with RPG Maker over the last few years.

Thanks! I've actually been shy about pitching it as a roguelike since it's a lot softer on difficulty and interaction options than your usual game. But since I could be wrong, I'll keep that in mind!
I'm not sure if this is a bug but whenever i try to use the hot-keys nothing happens unless I mash it.

That is strange. Did it always act this way, or did it just start in the last update?

(Edit) And in my testing just now, I discovered that the "Hue Shift" trait is broken. Thanks, random character generator!

I feel terrible DT. The way things I probably who give TD a fair shake until, I'm guessing year-end at best. The only good thing about that is that most bugs should have been squashed by then (perhaps it will be version 2.1 by then!).

Could be something to do with the new "Rest" function. I'll make sure there's nothing hanging up the "check for hotkey" part of the loop and try to get an update out next week.

If anyone else has the same issue, do let me know!
