Devil Counter is an action adventure RPG made with RM VX Ace. The game is built around Khas' Sapphire Action System as the basis for its gameplay. That means that the game is played from the world maps and combat is done between character sprites, rather than cutting away to a turn based battle scene. Here, I'm going to go into a bit more detail than the explanation on the main page and talk about some behind the scenes stuff.

The Characters - Conrad and Cordelia

"Hell is already here on Terra. I intend to send it back where it belongs!" -Conrad

"I'm only an apprentice! Its a miracle I've made it this far!" -Cordelia

The two heroes of our adventure are the Royal Knight Conrad, and Apprentice Mage Cordelia. Both protagonists are fully playable and approach combat in different ways. Learning to use both of them effectively and knowing when to swap out characters is key to your success. Characters can be changed at any time with the press of the Q button, but doing so will cause you to stop in place for a few seconds. Be careful when swapping out, or an enemy may suddenly catch up to you.

Conrad is a melee specialist and has high HP, attack, and defense values. When swarmed with enemies who get in your face, Conrad can easily tank them (provided you have decent armor equipped) and beat them back with a melee weapon. He is unable to use magic at all, unless you count enchanted weapons. Certain weapon types hit harder than others but have slower attack speeds. For maximum effectiveness, one must consider the most useful weapon for a situation. Use an extremely fast rapier to quickly chip away at foes? Or go all out with a Greatscythe that may kill foes in one or two shots, but can only be swung every few seconds. If one swing from a slow weapon misses, it could jeopordize a battle. Then again, risking fast yet weak weapons could prolong close encounters and have you take more damage than you'd like.

Cordelia is much more fragile than Conrad, but makes up for it with higher magic defense, and magic strength, plus the obvious ability to... well... use magic. Spells vary in MP cost, power, speed, and recovery time, as well as elemental damage. Knowing which spell to use in which situation is key to survival. Spells can be cycled with a press of the D button and cast with S, but in the middle of an intense battle, cycling spells while dodging attacks can be fairly difficult. Its best to equip one spell for an encounter and stick with it, using it in combination with Conrad's close combat skills.

There are no limits to equipping weapons and armor to give players freedom in creating builds. Perhaps you'd like to run a glass cannon berserker setup and give Conrad an enchanted sword along with high quality mage armor to amplify its strength, rather than having him tank with high defensive gear. At this stage in development, I can't even say if that would be a smart choice, but I'd like such options to be available to players should they decide to go for it.

The Underworld

The vast majority of the game takes place in the ominously named "Underworld." The true nature behind this realm is unknown to our heroes upon arrival, but on Terra (Devil Counter's equivalent of "Earth"), the Underworld is simply known as Hell, and the source of the demonic creatures plaguing the world. When Conrad and Cordelia arrive in this wretched place however, they are greeted by the tranquil Soul Haven, a peaceful zone that acts as a main hub. Upon venturing into the underworld, it seems to be more than just lava and volcanoes as depicted in legends. The duo will travel to many locations featuring different styles of enemies and challenging bosses, and meet plenty of allies to help them along the way, and ultimately grasp an answer to end the chaos.

More to be added later. Can't think of much to say at the moment but I know what I'm going for with this page. Questions/comments always welcome.
