The Situation:

A shipment of valuable goods belonging to the mega corporation, Solarcorp, arrived at its destination unmolested, only to reveal the contents inexplicably gone without a trace. Shortly after, a half-dead witness contacts the company, claiming that this was a heist, and that he was part of it. Driven mad by shock and pain, he is unable to give the information he claims to have. With the witness's time and sanity running out, the agents of Solarcorp decide to enlist the services of two memory divers, said to be the best in the business. Their goal is to dive into the man's fractured mindscape in an attempt to help him remember his role in the seemingly impossible heist, so that they can persecute and punish the thieves - and perhaps find out if there's more to the heist than it seems.

Features/Game Information:

-A futuristic crime investigation story with a humorous tone.
-The game is driven by challenges and puzzles that must be solved by navigation. There are no battle systems in the game and everything is done on the field.
-The game is non-linear, and the player can take on any of the four "dungeons" of the game in any order in their hunt for the fragments. The dungeons vary from each other, each requiring different play styles to complete.
-Time is the only resource. The player has only 20 minutes to start with, representing the mindscape's stability. Sustaining damage doesn't kill the player, but takes away valuable time instead. Conversely, acquiring fragments or orbs will restore time.
-The player gets an ending depending on how many of the memory fragments they were able to acquire before time runs out, with more revelations made with each fragment retrieved.
-Three difficulty levels.
-In addition to Story Mode, Arcade Mode (no cutscenes) and Challenge mode (no save points) are also available.
-The action inside the mindscape is punctuated by a series of cutscenes drawn in a rough style creating a contrast between the two.
-An original soundtrack.
-RTP not necessary.

Credits:

-Various scripts by Yanfly
-Illustrations by me
-Music by Jesus "Cleffy" Avila and Michael Somnes

Comments:

-Created for rpgmakerweb.com's Mysterious August contest, of which it became the first place winner.
-This is my first creation in VX Ace, which I made within the contest's short timeframe (a little over 2 weeks) using a trial version of the program. I made this to get familiar with the program and avoided using any of the battle system for that purpose. As such, there are no battles in the game, and all of the graphics except for my drawings are RTP.
-The 20 minute ingame time limit coincides with the contest's rule of having a minimum of 20 minutes of gameplay. The game ended up having a lot more than 20 minutes worth.

Nice, you got to upload it here at last. Hope people will check it out and all! I did like the story segments and you managed to get a lot done in that time frame.

And no I'm not going to make your games for you
The idea for this game is SO AWESOME, and the part I played was really well-done. Unfortunately, about 45 minutes into it, I couldn't progress because of missing graphics/sound effects that shut me out of the game. :c

Do you remember what part it was, or what file? I could have sworn I got everything taken care of already. Other than my illustrations and the music, this game pretty much uses RTP that I had to separate from the RTP itself to make it stand alone, so that might fix the issue.

Ok, I've just done a full playthrough of the game and have identified those troublesome resources. They all seem to be on the green level of the hate dungeon. They're all RTP files so if you already have RTP the issue shouldn't come up.

I've been meaning to try that one, so I'm not sure how similar they are. In my game's case it's more of a sci-fi framing device for the plot as well as a nice way to explain the strange RTP worlds you encounter in the game.
Hello! I played this and it was fun.

There may be a weird bug though? I got all 12 memory fragments and what appeared to be the "true" ending that explained everything, yet at the end I still got the message that the mystery was still unsolved. Is there some sort of special secret ending or did a switch just not get tripped?

Edit: Oh, and also the download includes a ton of miscellaneous save files that I'm pretty sure are not supposed to be there. Are they leftovers from debugging or something?

Regarding the save files, probably. When I did this new version I think I forgot to remove those.

Regarding the ending, it's fine. Read that final message closely, as you may see the slight sarcasm in it. But to explain...(WARNING: SPOILERS)

Based on what you have seen about the 12/12 true ending, do you think the crime REALLY got solved? A crime "solved" with the wrong suspect and the true suspect walking away can't really be considered solved. Heh.

Oh, I see. Clever. But

I believe it was phrased as "the mystery is still unsolved", which made me think it was a fourth-wall breaking thing informing the player whether or not they got the complete ending. It's just a little confusing at first.

Hmm good point, I didn't really establish a narrator. I may have to think about reprhasing that then.

I guess it's time to RECALL it and fix... oh damn I used that joke already
reminds me of that jennifer lopez movie...

Tough Puzzle runner game with 4 types of puzzles of 3 difficulty levels each. Timer acts as HP as well. On my first run I decided to try and get the toughest ones (spikes and godzilla) out of the way first, unfortunately those two combined took me down to 12 minutes. Then the hard ice teleport puzzle single handedly took out all of the 12 minutes. Ended up with a 9/12 bare minimum for the good ending.

Maybe will try for best ending again in some other unspecified time... but these puzzles are tough as nails and I need a break.

EDIT: I've since gone back and used a save scum strategy to go for the true ending. And got it. Good game.

I don't know anything about any Jennifer Lopez movies let alone how they tie in to this, but I will take your word for it, lol.

Thanks for giving this a try! Looking back, a lot of the puzzles were pretty trial and error which doesn't exactly do anyone any favors in a timed format, and some of the puzzles are pretty unbalanced (such as how the first two town puzzles were easy but suddenly that door puzzle is hard). Nonetheless I appreciate you sticking with it all the way to the end!
