Yeah, so I am not at all a competent composer, but in my attempt to make an all-custom-made-by-myself game, I have tried my hand at it. Of course, I used Mario Paint Composer. Luckily, I discovered that there are several different soundfonts created for that program AND I discovered a nifty little program called Viena that can edit and mix soundfonts, so I was able to make a composition of interesting instruments for my MPC songs.
Here they are:

For some reason Babby Mine reminds me of Video Games by Lana Del Ray.
It's actually a good idea to use Mario Paint for SNES type sounds. I find that getting sound fonts in the more fancier new programs a chore esp since I'm not a composer at the same time. Been also looking for artists that do SNES sounding music but it's very hard ( A good example of what I'm thinking is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dre89DbliF8). There is a chiptune community but they're interested in making weird techno/dubstep (i believe the correct turn is chipstep harumph) stuff and pushing the gameboy to its limits.
SNES/PS1 era has that weird edge where there were still some limitations but to the point where there's a unique sound and feel to a lot of them. PS1 music especially hard because although I'm sure there weren't that many audio limitations to it, there's still a vibe to it that sits well with sprite art or low res 3D. I find that a song with too much echo (reverb? idk) makes everything jarring so even newgrounds portal music doesn't really work. but yeah I've been youtube searching "mario paint original music" or "Music Creation For The Playstation" (a game like mario paint) and finding some nice results. But yeah cool stuff.
