Born from the frustration at the limitations in current 2D game engine offerings, Metis is an attempt to build a next generation game engine geared specifically toward 2D. It is intended to be easy to use for beginners while staying out of the way of advanced users who can unlock its full potential.

Design goals
-Performant: Be capable of running games with high resolution assets and heavy-duty AI processing
-Aggressively cross-platform: Be capable of running on as many platforms as possible
-Extensible: Use a plugin-based architecture to allow people to customize the engine
-Easy to use: Abstract away all the nonsense about OS and graphics APIs to let developers focus on making games

-Desktop: PC, Mac, Linux, Windows RT
-Mobile: Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8
-Console: Ouya, Playstation Vita, Playstation 4

-Parallelization library to allow games to scale easily to multiple cores
-GUI library to allow easy creation of buttons and menus
-Dialog scripting system to allow effortless authoring of dialog and cutscenes
-Extensible graphics pipeline to allow advanced post-processing effects
-Platform-independent input library allows you to generalize controls across different platforms

Want your game ported to other platforms?

In order to steer the development of Metis, Project BC is interested in partnering with devs who meet the following qualifications:
* Have finished or will soon finish a game
* Have the rights to use all assets in their game (or have the ability to replace all assets with originals)
* Are willing and have the rights to commercially distribute their game

If you're interested, hit me up with a PM with a link to your game's profile and website and I'll take a look. If it's what we're looking for, I'll let you know.

This is part of a long-term project to make Metis more mature and expand the reach of the community to outside of just RMN. We've got some brilliant and creative people here and it would be a shame to see their creations confined completely to RM.

The biggest limitation here is the RTP, since its license doesn't permit use on other platforms. If you use the RTP or RTP edits, you'll need to be able to replace it.
