'In Search of Immortality,' even the name drew me in.

Immortality is such a large subject that brings up so many great questions and thoughts. However this game does not fall very hard on the subject and is more about the journey and characters. The story (based in the Arum universe) follows five characters; Ellis (you youngest member, still in an academy, and an illusion mage), his uncle Isaac (a strange blue-haired man part of the Ulstern Alchemy Guild, he is an alchemist and doesn't take fear all to well), Isaac's wife Alma (an even stranger woman than Isaac, has a love for children and is an incredible Engineer, also part of the same guild as Isaac), Pudding (a demon Ellis somehow got contracted to and is considered a skill for Ellis during battle.), and Ezekeil (an overpowered priest that came to Isaac and Alma's guild with information on a man named Tarneus' tomb where there hold the possible elixir to immortality).

Each character has their own unique personality and unique class. They all come together for this mission and create tons of humor on the way. Really, this is what made this game, literally, my favorite RPG Maker Game of all time. The story has a wonderful essence of seriousness and comedy, switching back and forth seamlessly and comes together to make a wonderful story, attaches you to the characters, and is pulled off in such a way that by the end of the story you want more. Each character has their own unique way of doing thing which causes fights that solve rather quickly, tension that doesn't become all to serious, and adds up to so many things going on to keep the player entertained. The plot itself is rather simplistic however the characters make it really shine and I am surprised this doesn't have more downloads. And if the characters weren't enough, the battle system is so unique it's insane!

Each character has their own unique role to play in this unique battle system. Alma, the engineer, is able to construct Kits. Each kit is different however to sum it up, Alma is your black and white mage (in terms of Final Fantasy). Isaac has the abilities "Mix" and "Scrounge". With Scrounge Isaac is able to find items on the ground during battle that he can use for his ability Mix. Mix is where he takes two items (in short, an rock that has an elemental affinity or healing water) and use them. Some do damage, others heal, some buff, some debuff. Ellis' ability focus on time (speed up allies, slow down enemies), healing, and a few attacks. He has the ability to create illusion Decoys that can take a hit for him, explode to damage all enemies, or heal the party. Not just this but he also has Pudding as a skill, his demon will run in and slice the enemy with one of four techniques. Finally, Ezekeil, the tank, the powerhouse, the over powered priest from hell! Honestly, this guy is a BEAST. Not only are all these characters unique, but the systems used are as well.
A crafting system (fairly normal) and a mod system. The mod system is where you can place things like HP+, DEF+, etc. to boost the maximum of a stat. You get another mod slot with every level (capping at 10). This was very innovative and unique.
TIP: BE SURE TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THIS SYSTEM!! Don't be like me and make it the maze portion with only three mods of everyone, it's a pain in the ass.

Now, clearly from this you know that this is an amazing game with both great story and unique combat, but the fun doesn't stop there! The maps are beautifully done with lots of free-roam to find items and the sort. Not to mention while you roam the areas you are accompanied by amazing music. Really, I felt each piece matches the location and just get's you in the mood for an RPG Maker game!

Now I wanna take a step back and look at the battle system again, but this time actual battles. The game forces you to make use of the characters skills, which is great, there's no mindlessly tapping enter to do your regular attack. However after a certain point Ezekeil becomes insanely over powered with this simple combo: 1. Make sure no other character attacks the enemies 2. hit all enemies with First Blow then the multi hit Rock attack. 3. Use over kill on one of the enemies 4. use first blow on the other enemy. - With that, and most of the enemies being parties of two, more than most of the time you'd kill them off with just Ezekeil and if not both, at least one. This makes battles heavily depend on Ezekeil (after that certain point) which makes all of the other characters... rather useless. This game also suffers from the over-the-top HP for their final boss. Honestly, it became tedious because the boss wouldn't die and he wasn't able to do any damage to my party (Alma's Med Kit, Isaac mixing the healing water stuff, Ellis using decoys to avoid attacks and speeding up Ezekeil's turn, with Ezekeil attacking non-stop) and it turned into a cycle of heal heal speed up attack heal heal. I didn't even go past using 7 mods on all the characters. However, taking into consideration that the game was on such a time constraint, we're lucky it turned out as well as it did. I feel that this game has so much more potential and think it would have been much better if they received more time to work on it.

Ending Thoughts
The two flaws I found with this game were minimal, and for the shortness of the game it matters less. I am extremely surprised there aren't more downloads for this game and I must say it has inspired me to join the Arum universe after I finish my current project. This has got to be my favorite RM game and I'm sure it'll be yours too! I HIGHLY recommend this game.

The screenie you decided to put up here, is from my favourite scene in the game. Still wishing to do fanart for that scene.

*sob* The screenie was just so spot on. ;w;b

Thanks a lot for the review and elated you loved the game :D (srsly it gives us a severe case of fuzzyfeels when that stuff happens)
Lol, that one screenshot alone is just priceless. If the rest of the game is as funny as that very scene -- I may have to take a look-see. :P
Oh wow, thank you for the review and calling Immortals your favourite rpg maker game is exceedingly heart warming. Thank you.

XD I know right? That was hilarious! There were a few other moment where I wanted to screen cap but when I finally thought of it I was at the ending and that was the only part that really stood out XD

No problem! And the game was great, really hilarious and fun. I look forward to your next games and hope to join the Arum Universe (after I finish my current project :P)
By the way, while I have your attention, does the Arum IRC chat still work and what not? If so mind slipping me a link?
