Sacred Reviews: Pom Gets Wi-Fi

Introduction

Pom Gets Wi-Fi is a comedy game created using RPG Maker 2003. And, I'll be up front in acknowledging the subjective nature of comedy and the fact that this game fails at being funny for me. So, in short its hard for me to know how to approach this review since other people appear to genuinely like this game while I on the other hand see this game as highly overrated.

Story

The sort of Pom gets Wi-Fi is rather straight-forward. You play as Pom, a Pomeranian, that is so obsessed with the internet that she literally can't detach herself from her computer for a second. This leads to her tragic and completely avoidable death at the hands of a house fire. After Pom's death she ascends into heaven and goes on a quest to acquire Wi-Fi in order to continue her internet browsing.

And, since I'm on the subject of the story I should probably discuss this games Achilles heel in my opinion which is Pom. This character literally makes or breaks the game for the player. And in my case she just ruins the game. Pom is basically everything I despise about Internet culture rolled up into a single character. As such the jokes never work for me since I'm just too irritated at the main character to laugh.

Gameplay

Pom Gets Wi-Fi doesn't really place any emphasis on it's gameplay if I'm being brutally honest. The puzzles in the game are so easy that they don't even warrant the title of being a puzzle while the battles are so watered down it's impossible for the player to lose unless they actively choose to let the enemy beat the snot out of them.

Graphics

Visually speaking the game is rather solid and offers some unique environments and character models, but this aspect of the game only stands out since most people just utilize the character models and tile sets that come with whatever version of RPG Maker they have.

Sound

Sound wise the game is just alright in my opinion. Then again this tends to be the area I pay the least amount of attention to. So, I usually won't have any praise to offer unless a certain background song strikes a chord within me.

Conclusion

I can't deny that I dislike this game for highly subjective reasons which is why I'm not going to offer a rating for this game and will simply suggest that everyone play this game to form their own opinion.
