100K mark and 155+ subber update

It's update time again, gaiz.

I want to talk a bit about characters today. In the new demo ( coming out in late May/early June if my hand doesn't seize up on me ), there will be four playable characters:

Tristy/Ira, Ianna, Lance and Darcy.

A bit of the latter's back story will be revealed through a rather alarming cutscene ( for what you'd expect from Darcy, is it a bit disconcerting, since she is supposed to be the 'Genki Girl' foil to our calm Tristy ) as she reveals her true intentions to our titular lady knight. As it seems, the two of them share more in common than they'd like to believe. And later down the line, a little 'event' between them doesn't end well. Regardless, Tristy ends up teaching the game's resident Genki Girl a thing or two about the value of human life.

Dante is AWOL in this part of the demo, but I refuse to divulge anything about the charasmatic (?) blonde mage's whereabouts.

As for little Lancey, I'll be changing his portrait ( naturally ) since Aran from FE10 really doesn't suit him ( I liked Lance's older design better ) so he really looks the part of an innocent, woobie-ish soldier ( think Patrick in a suit of armour without the bodyguard crush and whiney-ness ). You know, like the kind of guy you just wanna hug or I dunno, snog...? ( if boyish-looking men with untidy white hair tickles your fancy ).

Not in the demo, but there is another scene like this involving them. Just more er... intimate. :3

Oh, and more TriAnna goodness in a bonus scene too. ^^ ( the demo includes that Inn scene where there are too few beds and Tristy needs to keep Ianna warm with her mane ). Speaking of them, the game will have three different endings depending on how you play. A variable will keep tracks of hidden points, and based off that value, I'll give you either a Bad, Normal or Perfect Ending.

Naturally, the Perfect ending will be the hardest to obtain, and will include finding obscure events/scenes, quests, or even choosing the correct dialogue options at certain parts in the game will determine Tristy's ultimate fate.

And screenies! All of the areas shown below will be in the demo ( I'm working on it as I type this blog post )

Spriting NPCs will be the death of me. ;_;

Regarding gameplay, the party's average level will be around Levels 16-18 since this part of the game is in actual fact 9+ hours into the full version, so there will be plenty of equipment and skills to mess around with when going up against foes like the Leonir ( a Coeurl-type foe inspired from FF12 who blasts you with EVERY SINGLE status in the game XD ) and Putrids ( vile slime-based foes who are very difficult to damage physically and who just love to Slap your party senseless. Literally ).

Because Tristy is a part of my life atm, I will not be entering the IGMC ( even though I had an idea for a real cute PLATFORMER-style game in VX. I'll shelve it for a small project, since it is quite personal to me too ). But it does involve a fat blue bird with round glasses who can't fly and tries to find components to make himself an airplane. XD

So long, and thanks for the Subs. :D

These all look wonderful, and I'm really anticipating the demo with all your new works showcased.

Save the blue bird of flightlessness for next year's IGMC when Tristy is out and has been universally acclaimed :).

HA do I ever feel that NPC spriting woe! Hot tip: make an NPC generator for yourself, aka sprite a bunch of shirts/capes/haircuts/etc. and shove them in a doc, then recolour the hell out of them.

Alternately, take the SNES rpg approach and have all your NPCs look the same. It works! It's doable! It's something you can totally go back and add on to when your game is almost finished and you're sick of looking at the same 6 NPCs. >W>

Also, never underestimate the joy that is the NPC that sits at a counter/table and doesn't have to walk around. The less animating you have to do, the better. Trust me. OTL

/me goes back to spriting my own custom sprites for gam and hydrating them with my tears

You could actually have legitimate reasons for using the same sprite for certain NPC's. All the guards of course would be in the same armour, have a class of school children, all the same uniform and regulation haircut. Have a special day in one town where they all wear the same colour, (the Tristy world version of the green of St. Patrick's.), have a place where the epitome of beauty is a particular look, tall & red-haired, and anyone who wasn't born that way dyes their hair and wears heels to appear uniform.

Or you know, just make them all unbelievably individual and wow us with your talent and dedication. That works too.
@nhubi: One can dream, hey? ( about the universal acclaim for an RM game XD ). But those suggestions of yours would indeed add flavour to Tristy's world.

@emmy: I am thinking of doing a generator in my graphics editor once I've finished the base body types for all my NPCs. I want short, fat, buff, scrawny and lean body types. Or am I biting off more than I can chew? ( looks around in a worried manner ).

OMG, I have a user title! :D:D:D

Looks like Kentona has been paying attention again. It suits you.

Oh and feel free to use any of those, they were just off the top of my head, you are welcome.
Man, you're such a hard worker and it shows! Loving the new look for the game, and hope you don't get too overwhelmed with all the sprite work. <3 Like Emmych said, having a bunch of different clothes/hair/etc. for your sprite bases would make things a lot easier, even if you had different body types.

Just wanted to point out that it looks like there's a little issue with the rocky cliff tiles in the bottom screenshot; it looks like it's repeating weirdly at the bottom. I'm talking about the round cliff to the right of the tree (hope that makes sense!)
@AMN: Wow, haven't seen you around in ages. XD I keep telling myself to change the entire cliff set because I'm not happy with it, but I end up procrastinating.

Started working on Lancey's ( and the male generated ) sprites.

Betcha you wanna see a naked Tristy now. XD

I had him run around in his birthday suit to see if everything animated properly too.
