Let's do a short re-cap of what's what.

I'm not exactly sure how I want to deal with monsters in respect to the Wand! Part of me wants to initialize a normal combat. Another part says to remove the enemy and have players grant EXP, but grant the least amount of EXP that is awarded for the encounters that are possible in the area.

I welcome any commentary on this, and any other possibilities!

So! This is what this is all about! Which of these could more fun? Is there some other idea I can incorporate? Pass me your thoughts!

Would it be possible to initiate combat but give a preemptive round? Or some other advantage, perhaps reducing all the monsters health by 10% or something?

This idea, I like this idea.

A preemptive strike? It makes sense, given the context.

So, let's see. If a monster-event is hit by the Wand, it activates a certain game-switch. There would be a check for that switch at the beginning of the fight, and if it's active, each member of the troop would be forced to do a useless "Wait"-like action. Thus emulating a preemptive strike?

I'm guessing something similar would need to happen for the pre-combat damage concept as well. Though, I'm not quite sure how to determine how much damage would be dealt.

Heck, if I can figure THAT out, maybe I could do BOTH!?

Sounds do-able!

Upon further consideration, if I were to use either of unity's suggestions, my preference would be just do to the preemptive strike.

When the way to learn better skills is to use the ones you have, this move seems appropriate. Though, I suppose I COULD merely re-use some variables for the pre-combat damage idea.

I dunno. More variable shenanigans are definitely NOT my cup of tea at the moment, yeah?
