Halo's Mixtape belies a very interesting concept that rarely makes it to a full game (even a short one); one where the villain is the good guy.

Using masterfully a single four-colour tileset, the game does an excellent job of taking you to a frozen island with only a handful of tiles. It's very impressive, and the charsets complement it very well. My only complaint in the graphics department is the low readability on some of the sprites, especially the monochromatic frost demons littering the world, who blend in to the cave backgrounds almost perfectly.

The game contains very little gameplay (almost none, as a matter of fact!) except a bit of clicking on the right thing, but it's still an enjoyable little romp. The music gets a bit annoying after a little while, as it's just an oddly remixed Bing Cosby track on loop, but the game is short enough that it's not a real problem.

The entire story takes place on a tiny island, which is home to a town of demons and humans (who don't want to be there? It's hard to tell). It surrounds a frost witch whose favourite mixtape has been stolen by an "intrepid" hero, and it short and to the point. The story is handled a bit cumbersomely, but it's a solid little short story, and the graphics make the game worth playing through.

I won't rate this since it's more of a visual novel than anything else, but it's definitely worth checking out (especially if you like Bing Crosby).
