One of my favorite RPG Maker games. Good job, Ephiam.

As you should all know, Dragon Fantasy is a game created by Ephiam. I must say, it is a darn good one, but it does have a few flaws.

Storyline: 6/10

Let us start with the bad parts, shall we?

The storyline seems pretty basic. You and three others must save the world from EVIL.

As you can see, the storyline is pretty rudimentary. However, it actually mashes quite well with the style of game this is. However, it is kind of starting to get old.

Now for the character development...holy hell, it's bad. This is the one thing that really sticks with me.

You have the hero, a royal knight, a princess, and a priest. This game seems to not like character development. No backstory. In fact, it seems only Yoor gets any character development, but even that is pretty bad. Oh, hey, Yoors has a family, lets just sit here and say nothing.

In all honesty, i do not like the way he handled character development at all.

Oh yes, and for the final thing. The item descriptions. Hmm, i want to buy this Dark spell, but does it blind an enemy, or use dark element magic? Guess what? Yeah, that's right, no item descriptions for spell.

...maybe i'm just nagging, but the text parts of the game is where the game dwindles a bit.

Gameplay: 8/10

This is where the game really excels.

The game uses the traditional RM2K battle system. I must say, i LOVE it to pieces. Front view, turn based combat makes the game radiate a good "oldschool" feel.

The battles themselves can be quite difficult. Specifically, the spells. Just like in every oldschool game, spells hit hard. very hard. So hard, in fact, that it can sometimes kill you in one hit. (Just like an oldschool game!!!)

Random battles don't seem to be very difficult, and tend to give a somewhat small amount of exp.

As for exploration...well, to put it simply, there doesn't seem to be quite a lot of it. I couldn't help but notice that there were enemies that never appeared in-game that would have been very interesting to fight.

So, overall, the gameplay was fun, but i really wished there was more explorability.

Music: 8/10

The music uses soundtracks from Dragon Quest and the Final Fantasy series. They actually sounds pretty good, and fits appropriately to the situation. My only complaint is that the music sometimes pauses for a few seconds, but it tends to not happen a lot.

Graphics: 10/10

The graphics were quite pleasing. The game uses DQ characters mixed with Final Fantasy 3 and Dragon Quest tilesets. I must say, they co-exist very well. The DQ characters don't clash with the FF maps at all. No complaints here.

Replayable-ness: 7/10

The game seems to have a decent amount of replayability. The battles do tend to get boring on the second playthrough, and there are no optional dungeons to explore. In short, not much is added to a second playthrough at all.

Overall: 4 stars

The battles are very fun, the graphics and music are nice, and the storyline is...ok, i suppose. In short, this is a very good game, and you should immediately play it.
