Ginger is the new Slender

Unity games don't seem to have much popularity around these parts. Which is unfortunate since Anaryu has crafted another stellar entry in the walk-around-in-the-dark-and-find-shit-while-something-is-chasing-you horror genre.

In Ginger, you start out in sort of an office. I had the game on at full res and high graphic quality so I didn't really need the flashlight (might be an issue with the brightness). But I can imagine it being much more difficult otherwise.

You'll find your first letter pretty soon. Then you'll make your way to a long hall. Unless you were stalling a lot before, you'll probably notice a red light or footsteps in the distance. Be sure to stay FAR away from the source of that.

You can run by holding shift but you'll lose the ability to sprint after a short distance so you can't rely on it for escaping the monster. You'll also often find yourself in dead ends with no where to go. It's best to try to stay out of the long hall as much as possible as the creature doesn't tend to walk into the offshoots as much.

As you find more letters (15 in total) your heartbeat will go up. The monster also seems to be better able to find you at this point just like in Slender. Finding letters will reveal the story in cute little rhymes. It doesn't matter which order you find them in. But if you want to quickly end the game you just have to head for the basement at the end of the hall.

It requires a bit of patience and some strategy to avoid the monster. But after a few tries I started to learn the layout of the level and was able to circumvent it without much trouble. I found 8 of the total 15 letters before heading to the basement. I'm told there are 32 different possible locations for the letters, so it can take some real sleuthing to find them all!

I wouldn't recommend this game if you scare real easily. Otherwise, give this holiday entry a shot!
