Life of a Detective follows the story of Clarence Brown, who is a 26 year old "wannabe" detective, living in the town of Eugene. The game will have have an engaging storyline where Clarence takes on cases and other minor "quests" throughout the town. There is, of course, a wonderful quest journal to keep all his cases in order. An adventurous RPG set in modern times, with a fully working day/night cycle. Noir? Black & White? Yes, the game is in Black & White. Detective Mystery? Well, as best as I can. I've never written any form of fiction like this before, so this will be my first. But I plan there to be things like clues and the ability to investigate the Cases. Other things that will take place is Comedy, Sci-Fi, Romance, Action and other life-like things all set in the partial Open-Ended/Open-World town of Eugene.

The storyline? Not much of one yet to be quite honest. I've been working on the story in my absence and now I have one. There are a total of 10 major cases and a few minor ones. I am still working on, and soon to finish, the basics, like setting up the town. Most of the businesses and buildings the player is allowed to go in are already made (just need to decorate them a little more.) Also, still trying to figure which battle system to use, dynamic or turn based. I am now using a battle system very similar to Chrono Trigger, I wanted real time battle, but I could not get it to work. Once I get the foundation set for the game I'll have plenty of fun working on the story. There are a few things I already know about, for the games features. They are as follow:

  • Day/Night Cycle

  • Black & White Sepia

  • Quest Journal

  • Needs System*

  • Open-Ended/Open-World

  • Exploration

  • "Bus" System

  • Side Quests

  • Side Jobs**

  • Visit nearby towns and city***

  • Town/City Map

* If I get it to work properly and if it would be needed.
** If I find it necessary.
*** If I feel like doing that much work. (Which I probably will eventually. I have made one area out of town. It's the mall in the city north of Eugene.)

The Reasons for the game, LoaD

First off. This will be a short blog. Next, I will explain why I even started making this game. I probably could have just put this in the description for the game, but I realized it was a little more important than that. There is another game on this site that I started playing and I loved the idea so much that I knew I had to make my own. Now, honestly, I don't really like mystery's of anything, well, I do like The Hardy Boy books, but otherwise, I don't like mystery's at all. I do like things that at are mysterious, but that is digressing a little.
I never seen any other game where you play as a detective looking for clues and figuring out cases and the idea of which sounds extremely awesome. Okay, I have heard of a few games, LA Noire and Heavy Rain, but otherwise. None. Especially never heard of any for 2D RPG games. So, when I was looking for a new game to play, whenever that was, who knew I would find the game that would inspire me to make this game. (In fact, I already have plans to make a series out of this game.)
The game I am talking about? X-Noir without these guys and their hard work on making their game, LoaD would have never came about. Neither would the whole series. So, for better or for worse, however this game turns out, the makers of X-Noir are to thank for giving me the idea in the first place.
