A long promised review

NOTE: There WILL be spoilers, since this is a fangame.
NOTE2: English is not my first (nor my second) language, so sorry for any mistakes I've probably made.

Chivi-chivik played: HOME

I remember following this game long time ago, waiting for its release. When it got released problems happened with me, so I haven't played this game 'till now. And now that I've finished it, I can review it as I wanted!

NOTE: The version I had and therefore played was 1.1.0. Take this into account if you played an older/more recent version.

Gameplay
The game feels and plays so similarly to OFF it's great. However, this game feels harder than the original: there were few puzzles I solved out of sheer luck and trial-and-error (3 exactly) and battles are way more punishing (Darn you Doctors...). Also, I found a couple of game overs on my way, something that didn't happen when I played OFF. I don't know if this was supposed to be the normal difficulty setting (because the selection at the start of the game isn't straightforward), but whatever. At least it's challenging and not frustratingly hard, so it's good news to anybody who loves fights and puzzles in RPGs.

A little comment: This game contains suddenly-appearing stuff, which can translate into jump-scares. Few of them got me offguard. And I was the one expecting nothing as in OFF...

Another thing to note is that this game is longer than OFF. Once I reached what I thought that would be the ending...

This should've told me the end was farther than I thought...

Graphics
Overworld graphics are the same as in OFF, with some extra colours on characters and stuff. However, character graphics in battle are more detailed (so you can tell this is fan-made), but this doesn't mean it's bad. It's actually great. Even the Batter gets a sprite renovation!

...

I should have screenshot that...

Music
The music was original, so no tunes by the amazing Alias Conrad Coldwood. This doesn't mean it's bad.
I must admit some tunes were cacophonic or noisy, but most of them were either atmospheric or really good.
I also loved when the classic Pepper Steak was used in a certain way, in certain places for certain enemies. Made me smile.

Technical stuff and the like
The most amazing things are always made in RM2003. Don't lie to me.
You will find well programmed puzzles and minigames, and battles still use amazing visuals+blood. Yeah, the sound that plays when an enemy is defeated is gone, but it doesn't matter.
I failed to find any bugs, so thumbs up!

Story

Heheh, inkling, heheheh... Yeah, he has no idea.

The story keeps itself cryptic. Not as cryptic as the original game, which I'm grateful for, but still cryptic. It took me a lot to figure out the timeline this game happens, or if it was an AU (yeah, I'm this bad at guessing subtexts and implyings in games...), but once I knew, it got better.
That until I was presented with everything after Zone 3. That was the moment I knew I had to combine puzzle pieces to get what was going on. If the objective of the creators was to leave us as confused as the characters, then they accomplished this. At least with me.

One of the best things in the game is your playing team, i.e, the cats. Kitty cats!! They make some amazing and funny scenes, which I'll always love. I won't tell anything else, I want you to find out how cool they are!
Also, this game's FULL of secrets, bonuses and cameos. It was obvious it would have bonuses as well, and I would've loved to find at least most of them, but some stuff prevented me to explore further than I needed to (I blame the enemy encounter ratio, the f*cking doctors, a lack of explanation...). If it wasn't for TVTropes I would've never known of the existance of some.

However, there was something that caught me off-guard...

This isn't your average RPG Maker horror game... literally.

Multiple choices that would screw up or solve the outcome of the game at the early parts of the game was something I didn't expect at all. I was scared I would unlock a bad or bittersweet ending (because that's what usually happens to me). This time though, I got the best ending (YAY!!) so, if you want to know how to get it, just be knowledgeable with OFF itself and remember what is happening and where is everybody you found in the game so far. It helps to remember what happens if certain things take place.

Oh, and yeah, no space monkeys this time. Which is a relief.

Overall
If you played OFF, and I bet you did because you're reading this, (and if you didn't DON'T READ THIS and go play it) I can recommend you this game 100%. Maybe you won't agree with me in that this game's great, but still, play it.

Yooo. Thank you so much. This is a really good review. <3

Though, I must mention. You are playing an old version of HOME. In the new version of HOME my friend, you no longer have a choice at the end of each zone. :3

It's pretty different, I think you should take a look at that version and see if you notice the differences.

You're welcome! :D

I see... but I'll pass for the moment. I had to squeeze my time to play this version, I prefer not to do it again until I get free time again (which will be in 3 months more or less...) ^_^;
