Mapping!

I'm doing something possibly insane with this game's world-map. I'm doing a modified version of a randomly generated map from Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I'm doing this for a few reasons. One is out of sheer curiosity of how well this kind of thing would work. Another is because detailing maps has always been a weak point of mine, and I'm kinda thinking that doing it this way is a better lead than merely eyeballing it, or feeble attempts to place detail tiles at random.

Saying that, I kinda-started a map for Castle Askigaga that feels more like a traditional "Marrend map". It's not as big as the version that's in Hall of Lost Souls, but, the concept of it's architecture remains very similar. I dunno. I guess I started the castle with the thought of putting something playable in here, even if it will be a while yet before I feel equal to releasing anything.

Maybe I'm just pushing myself too hard. Like, am I trying to make up for lost time, and doing everything I should have done when I was all depressed before... before, what, exactly? I can, and should, take my time with this. Man, I didn't intend this to be a stream-of-consciousness, but, it looks like it turned out that way.

Whew! Man, that world map took forever! Well, the base-form of it. I have no particular details on it, save the main locations that I know I want in this game. Not inclined to work on it anymore today. Which should bring me to the other thing that's on my docket...

I might want to reduce the size of the world map at some point. Still, I can't help but to laugh at myself at how I'm subdividing the nations with the terrain. I'm putting Gojo in the north, and it's covered by snow. I'm putting Hachisuka in the south, and it's using wasteland tiles. I'm putting Askigaga between them, and it's a grassland.

It reminds me of a book I wanted to write (not to mention the game that I attempted to base off of it) forever-and-a-half ago that had a very similar set-up. Heck, even the cultures that I want to have for these nations are along similar lines to that book/game! Some ideas just won't die, I guess.
