A canine disease known as DED has descended over Daryl's hometown. Dogs roam the streets, attacking people on sight. Daryl's dog has gone missing. When a mysterious redhead appears at Daryl's door, it soon becomes clear that there are a lot more questions than just who let the dogs out ...

You could say that Dog Eat Dog is a very story-heavy RPG. Part dating sim, part mystery and with 5 different endings, Dog Eat Dog is essentially a story about zombie dogs and one man's quest to save his dog, before it's too late.

I started working on Dog Eat Dog around 03/06/2014 after seeing the contest advertised via the Humble Bundle and decided that this was something I really wanted to try. So I bought and started playing around with RPG Maker VX Ace and decided that I had a real chance to make something, as I'm not a developer myself, and needed a program that would do most of that side of things for me.

Long story short: this is my first game and it was a real rollercoaster ride. I wanted to write a story about dogs and after playing some Left for Dead and being a big fan or the Zero Escape series, I got the first idea of the plot for DED. The script and the artwork were all created by me, Holly Rose. :)

I created this game for the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest. Find my entry page here. Please Vote for me if you enjoy it! :P

I really hope you will enjoy Dog Eat Dog. <3

Dog Character Sprites

So these are the character sprites for the dogs that appear in Dog Eat Dog, the game I made for the 2014 Indie Game Maker Competition.

I thought it would be good to clarify what breeds they are, as that particular information doesn't come up in the story.

I'm really hoping to get 10 votes for this game by the time voting ends (7 July at 11:59pm UTC), so please help me realise this little goal of mine by voting for me here,

Hmm, I think I'll take Daryl's advice and just focus on the dog. I'll give this one a go, and I hope you get your 10 votes, at the very least.

Thank you, I hope so too! :)
I loved this. I will vote for you and maybe write a review later (although the review is mostly because of a raffle for review writers)

Oh my gosh thank you, that would be so kind! Obviously a review would be lovely, no matter the reason you write it, but just this comment has made me super happy. :D

Seriously thanks so much. I really hope I'll be able to improve by the time I'm able to release my next game.

I gave your game a shot and it was fun! I have some critiques and comments that I'll just leave under this hide-tag here:

It was interesting to see an RPG done with the Visual Novel approach. Visual Novels aren't my favorite medium, but this was done well enough that I wanted to see what would happen and the characters were interesting. Here are some notes I made while playing the game.

As it was mentioned in nhubi's excellent review, the Blue-On-Teal text here is a bit hard on the eyes, and given that a lot of the text is from Daryl's point of view, I got a little bit of eye-strain playing.

Also, in a few instances I noticed that Daryl's name was spelled differently. Notice that in this screen its spelled "Dayrl."

Also I also love the custom message windows. They are super-cute :D

I'm not sure what's going on with the costs of the moves here. They seem to all have a green "zero" or something behind them.

I found the way you use facesets to be a little odd. I understand why Daryl has one, as you can't see him, but for the girls, it's very confusing, especially concerning their emotions.

For example, here Maria is clearly upset, but when I read the text, I'm looking at the textbox, which shows her with a happy-face, which feels off. I think it might work better if you don't use the textbox when the character is already on-screen.

Usually, when Daryl is narrating, the text is in italics. Here, however, and I think the line after this one, are plain, as if he's just saying this.

I found the Heal and MHP boost that you get when you guard to be a neat mechanic. The dog-slimes are also totally cute! ^_^ However, aside from that, I found the combat to be really bland and it felt like filler more than anything else. There wasn't any real strategy required in it.

Also, it seems like Maria is on auto-battle at first and then suddenly switches to being under your control. Is there a reason for that?

All in all, a very cute game with some nice storytelling ^_^ I'm going to play it again to see if I can get more endings :D
