Just a little peek...

Peeking at Stars is not a typical game. Some might not even want to call it a game, but this is not the place to debate that. It is, however, an experience that narrates itself in what feels like a stream-of-consciousness manner. The most direct takeaway is that mankind has colonized the moon as a last-ditch effort for the survival of the species. Indeed, players navigate the maps as one of the colonists, and it soon becomes apparent that there is a congregation formed to watch as the Earth destroys itself.

While the game starts and ends the same way, the path is split into three, and each path path shows a different scene, and relays a different sensation. For example, the right path relays a desire to be recognized whereas the one on the left is more of an accusation of squandered potential. There is a question as to how much the game internalizes itself to the player. In my case, the "left path" and the "right path" were more memorable, as these are both issues I am struggling with.

As for other aspects, the depressing mood that the mapping gives off fits perfectly with the themes the game relays. In addition, the only music you hear is ambient noise, which make the sound when text appears a bit more striking. In the context of the "left path", it is almost as if the game was judging me!

The game is not a lengthy experience. About ten minutes. So, if one is inclined to see all the paths/sequences the game has to offer, it's a matter of about a half-hour. Though, there is the small point of seeing the opening three times, but, if one can get over that annoyance, I would suggest giving Peeking at Stars a peek.
