Fantasy Gold is a game like any other RPG game. But there's a difference. There is no "real" goal or plot. Instead, the game is cut up into "chapters," but the
player cannot see what chapter they are on.
There are side-side-quests (yes, that sounds ridiculous) that the hero, bluntly named "Hero" can go on. These vary from getting a carr- *Ahem*, I mean Orange Veggie, killing a wild Tutorial Slime, and even to warding off bees.
Along the way, you'll get party members, like Crimson the Crimson Knight. You'll also meet wacky NPCs, like Ralph, Boring NPC, Bene, and Josh. Yes, Josh. There are also many items, equipments, and battles to fight! There is also a wide variety of maps, such as Slime Caves or Deep Cliff.

I'm actually really disappointed with this game. The combat aspects are really interesting, but the lack of context as to why your fighting is sad.

On the other hand the game is quite humorous, and well executed.

Aside from that this game really isn't fun, and with no real goal. There's no drive for me to continue past an hour of me playing.

Well Xemeth you did better than me. I could only get about five minutes into this clunker (note: slight hyperbole). I'm going to submit a review so the creator knows what not to do next time.

Sorry but didn't the dev warn that was the case in the description? There is no real plot or goal is stated explicitly above, so expecting there to be a reason behind the combat and stating the lack of a goal as a reason not to play seems a little counter-intuitive.

I didn't even think about downloading this one for just those reasons, since a narrative is important for me in my enjoyment of a game, but I find the fact you point that out as a fault to be puzzling since the dev made a point of highlighting that aspect.

The way to solve the problem with no goal and all side quests:

Variables are the key!

Each time you finish a side quest you gain one variable.
Then if you have enough variables you can move onto the next
chapter or get more difficult quests.
You can also display the variables as a motive to the player to
complete all the side quests.

Yeah, but if your combat is boring, and you have no story, or goals. That in itself is a major fault. I understand you have a lot of quests you can do, but there's no real reason to care about them.

My review will explain the distinction between "no plot/goal" and "no point/hook" to you when it's accepted, nhubi.

Ah, well combat itself being boring is another point entirely, but since you stated that The combat aspects are really interesting, and it was the context, ie the reasons that had you frustrated I based my observation on your comment. Boring combat is indeed a flaw.

I look forward to reading it, I always find the distinctions that people make to be illuminating.
My fault for not being very clear. My bad nhubi.
Well, thanks for all the feedback.
Do you guys think I should just stop making this game?
I'm working on a game called 10 Days until Doomsday.
It has an actual story this time around!
But should I stop working on Fantasy Gold
and focus my time on TDuD?

Christamoose, this is my two cents.

I've played a bit of your game. I'm the kind who likes to power up, buy a good weapon and get some of the better armor so I don't die so often :)

Your game is brand new, Is this your first game?? If so, keep going, and if not your first game, then try to improve it a bit.
No, it's not great, but I am enjoying it.
It looks like this is a brand new game and you already have 23 downloads BUT ONLY two people who don't think it's a good game.
I did take a WARP to I believe Sandy Beach and it was cute. I remember my Hero wandering around a bit and the maps were colorful and fun.
There are a few on this site who knock games, but then they have forgotten how not so great they were when they first starting making games.

It's up to you, but I know it's not easy making games. I would love to be able to make one this good :)
Take your time and try finishing this game and get some helpful feedback before droping it and going on to your next game :)

Well, I will give it a try, if this is your first game... don't worry, you will get better
Does anybody want to see some NEW, EXCITING, AND AMAZING SCREENSHOTS for TDuD?
Yes, I'm still working on Fantasy Gold. Don't worry!
Here's the screen shots

WELP SOMEBODY PLAYED THIS

WHO?!

Me

I like the idea of a open-ended RPG, but your game is a mess, I even checked the others warps and:
- The spectrum cave or whatever, the ice puzzle is annoying, it goes too slow, and when you reach the other room you can accidentally activate a trap that sends you to the previous room, fuck that place
- The other warp didn't have something special, just another cave
- Now, the aqua zone, I quit the game at the jellyfish group because I don't have the patience to fight them

Hopefully you will update the game (add more places, fix and change some things...)
Oh, and the next time, can you upload the game without the RTP?

Good luck
thank you guys for not being harsh about his game. this is his mom.
Did you guys know you can FLEE the jellyfish group?! YAY!

Christamoose:

I've had a review of this pending for I think about 3-5 days so you know. It should be accepted soon now.
