Hey, everyone!

While most of you are probably still playing COATS, I'd like to take a moment to show some of our efforts in an upcoming project. This project is still in the stage of an early alpha, but we thought it'd be fun to showcase a few of the base features.

Project "CRACKERJACK" has been on our agenda for a long time, and we've started with some of the basic building blocks and artwork. Most of the artwork and sprites are placeholders as we build the basic functionality - completely by scripting.

"Crackerjack" follows the story of Celia Jackson-Smythe, an ex-weapons designer who gets laid off as part of a ruthless merger. Celia, being a sheltered woman in her late 20's, is easy prey for the harsh big city environment. That is, until she decides to do what she does best - get back into the weapons business. As she starts developing and assembling weapons, for protection as well as living, she soon becomes an important player in the criminal underground. She adopts the nickname "Crackerjack" and starts her transformation from a timid engineer to a cutthroat arms dealer.

One of the greatest issues Celia has to deal with is the rival gangs. She can't just sell to all of them - instead she has to back a single gang, and try to stay on their good side. The three gangs (The Heidrun, The Kirkos Crew and the PBR) all have their own generals, lieutenants and unique characteristics - all whom affect the outcome of Celia's overall story. You got to choose whom to make friends with - and whom you think you could deal with, as enemies, as "your" gang claws it's way to city supremacy.

As an arms dealer, Celia has to be smart. Not only does she have to deal with the social politics of her employer, she also has to consider the cost of production. As her business expands, she needs to weigh import/export, manage attention from investigating officers, and sign unofficial deals with people you'd rather not disappoint.

This is just a short insight into what we're working on at the moment. Specifically, I'm working on an event system that generates characteristics and names of police officers who work on Celia's case, and making sure they are eventually replaced if something were to... happen.

What do you think?
