Secrets of the Light

Description
Secrets of the Light is a traditional RPG inspired by a few old school classics such as Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warrior. It's also my first completed project, and has many flaws, but I've been told that it's not too shabby for a first game. If you're interested, read below for some more info.

Story
Shade, an evil being who almost destroyed an entire world, was sealed away by a mysterious party. But now he has returned to the world that defied him to wreak havoc once again. No one knows his true identity, or his true motives, but most people have figured out that he's back, and the world is in danger once again because of his presence. So, who will stop him? As foretold by a prophecy, four heroes will emerge from the light when the evil one returns to defeat him and save the world. The prophecy comes true and four brave souls that come from seemingly no where are willing to fight Shade. Many rejoice at their courage, but some, who have surrendered their souls to Shade out of fear, will try to stop the heroes at all costs. To make matters worse, The island where Shade's fortress lies is surrounded by tall peaks and is unaccessible by foot or by boat. The heroes must rely on the help of some of the average people of the planet in order to reach their way to victory.

Gameplay
This game plays like many other RPGs. When you start the game, you'll be prompted to select a team of four out of eight classes. The classes are: Knight, Priestess, Magician, Elementalist, Ninja, Berserker, Beastmaster, and Monk. You'll have to choose wisely, since you can't change your party once you've chosen it. Once you've chosen and named your party, you're ready for adventure. While the gameplay might not be very complicated, battles use the DBS, and nothing may seem really new, I think the gameplay is tried and true and pretty fun. The game is quite challenging at times, also. You can't just barge into a new dungeon without preparing or you're toast. Bosses are no exception, either. So, if you like simple RPG fun, then you'll like this, but if you need complex mechanics, puzzles, and minigames, then you may find some, but not a lot.

Version 2.5

It took me longer than I expected (due to laziness and lack of internet), but version 2.5 is completed! I know that this game is old and has run it's course if it ever had one, but I felt I should at least separate it from the cancelled series that this was originally a part of. That's mainly what this version is, but there are a few balancing issues that I fixed as well.

I am working on a new game, that actually has story, interesting characters, ect. Soon enough, there will be enough content for a game page. But until then, play this if like the style and maybe you'll like it. Perhaps you could *cough*providesomefeedback* cough*...

I fought Shade on the bridge but when he left and I exited left, in the next room the game froze. So I simply retraced my steps and finally got all the emblems where it says now go back to the castle and get the airship. But I cannot find the airship anywhere. What do I do?
I have a question (more like a completionist thing)
The dark elf in the ruined city mentions something about a old woman, is this some sidequest or it's just for show?
Straight up, this game is awesome. The class selection won me over. Its real fun. Id love to see it on something better then 2000, but hey, its still great fun. I went berserker, beast master, black and white mage. They seem to be doing good.

How have I not seen this? Downloading.

Heh... :x

I guess this game isn't too bad, but man are some of the maps godawful. I've been thinking about updating this game just to fix the maps(and lower the encounter rate EVERYWHERE).
How have I not seen this? Downloading.
Thanks for the fast answer.
I'm guessing you mean the one with the glass tiles. You have to step on 'em in the right order. To do this, you can either randomly step on them until you pass, or you can look for a very subtle hint in the text on the stone slab (A hint that I should probably make less subtle, but whatever). Look at the first letter of each word, then relate them to the compass directions north, east, south, and west. Good luck!
have to say that it is a really nice game and i am close to the end but i couldn't solve teh riddle in the dark toer in the end. maybe some could tell me how to???
And now it's not.

The new blog post has more details, but I had to delete the current version for now.
Did you read my blog post? Well anyway, the new download is up now.
where did The download go?
HIHI,,,
WOULD U TELL ME WHAT IS NEW IN THE NEWEST VERSION?? HEHE ":p
I'm glad to see that people are enjoying my game! As for the glass tile puzzle, there is a hint in the message on the stone slab that has to do with north, east, south, and west. Good luck!
hello,,,^^i am playing your game 'secret of the light'i like it very much ^^ but when i go to the near final part,,,at one of the six castles, at the part with FOUR GLASS,,,wheni step on it i hear some breaking sound i get stuck at this,,and i spent hours of time,,but still cannot get it through,, can u tell me how to solve it??thx,, and i like this game very very much^^
Strangely enough, this is quite a good game. While it lacks shiny graphics and deep plot and character customisation, I found it quite fun and enjoyable to play. And that's the major point in games in my book; Gameplay. It reminds me strongly of old-style snes era commercial rpgs, although there are some huge imbalancies that make for some frustrating experiences at times (aka enemy magic attacks). The 0.5 rating of the first review is just plain wrong, good game there Gemini!
I AM DEEPLY IMPRESSED BY THE GAME,,,
EVEN IF I ONLY PLAYED IT FOR LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR ...:P
I really don't know why, but I actually had fun with this game. I spent more time on this game more than others, because it didn't have a long ass intro, slow walking speed, or overblown story. I think this is a fantastic first attempt at RPG Maker.
Thanks for the heads up, Kerilithia. I'll have to fix up the Enemy Skill System for the next version. It's probably the most buggy aspect of the game. The Beastmaster is still a very useful class, though.
I'm having a bit of trouble with the blue magic learning system. I have been told twice that I've learned the drain spell but its not appearing on my skill list.
its pretty good im gna rate it up a bit
