It’s okay to feel alone, many others share your pain. We’re all connected through this loneliness, it’s all shared across the board, this undermining sadness. We’ll make it through these tough times, though. Share your pain with me, it’s okay.

Desolate Faith is an RPG that focuses on the drastically different, yet similar lives of a handful of deeply troubled characters and the inner turmoil and demons they face. The various perspectives all share different, yet similar stories of loneliness and loss, intertwined into a charming, surreal experience full of dark secrets beyond the imagination of ordinary folk.

Main Characters

Davy is a 18 year old, unusually serious young man who always puts himself out to provide for his community. He lost his father as a kid for circumstances unknown, and the event has affected him internally since then. His hope in joining the Force is that he may uncover the whereabouts of his father's disappearance and the truth behind it. Davy excels at the arts of swordsmanship.

Wyatt is Davy’s childhood friend and bestie for restie at age 18. He’s laid back and one to crack a joke at every opportunity given, as well as very flirtatious with every girl he spots. He’s secretly a lonely guy, however, and most of his actions come from simply craving attention he so strongly wishes for. Wyatt has been playing with magic since he was a boy, and loves nothing more than to throw deadly spells out to “spell” disaster to his foes.

Amani is a cold, stubborn 16 year old lass. She has had a rough childhood, born in an environment of violence and injustice. She’s had it with the horrible conditions of her so called home and wishes to escape. Kendall is a master at thievery and sneaking, quick to pickpocket fools who underestimate her.

Mackenna is an outgoing, young girl who is always overwhelmed with school. She is bored with her current life and wishes to expand away from her mundane tasks to something more grand.

Merrick is a whimsical 20 year old character who is very laid back and does things at his own pace and the brother of Mackenna. He rarely takes anything seriously, though when the time comes to, he’s all business and straightforward. He is a half Angel, having been killed by a close friend of his.

Adrian is as quiet as they come. He doesn't offer much about himself and gets straight to business and doesn't allow anyone to weasel their way out of an interrogation. His Drive Blade is embodied with the negative energy of others and uses it to unleash devastating powerful dark fueled attacks.

Elena is a curious, obedient younger girl who travels alongside Adrian. She is weary of him and his true past, but realizes not much of anything will ever get him to say what she wants to hear without some sort of favor in return. She uses a Burst Rifle from afar, a type of gun that injects medicine into her partners while casting deadly poisons into others.

Other Characters

Caden is a music teacher who is adept at what he does and longs for nothing more than to spread the beauty of music and to others. Calm and collected individual.

Kathryn is a spunky wannabe superhero who thinks little of the consequences of her shenanigans by the daily. She longs to see more of the world and uses various inventions she made just for battle.

Groups

The Force is a professional team of knights led by King Darrell. They are located in various parts of the world, and seek info on suspicious activities throughout the planet and protect citizens from harm at all costs.

The Dwellers are a group of highly suspicious, usually dark-cloaked men who perform Satanic-like arts to summon demons into the world to prey and suck the life of humans. Their exact intentions are unclear, but nonetheless frightening to see firsthand.

The Freedom Fighters are a smaller scale gang of about ten some members who strive to do good for the community and protect those in need. It was formed by an anonymous young man with the good intentions of protecting the weak, and similarly young aged individuals have followed since. They look to find their place in the world.

Features

  • An expansive world rife with character and personalities that undergo change throughout the course of the game.

  • Fully fleshed out soundtrack.

  • Variety of weapons, items, and skills for creative play.

Sounds great!
Thanks a bunches! Download to the latest build is available now! :)
Well, this game has an excellent description. It sounds like this game has an enthralling story and characters the player could easily relate to. However, the game itself wasn't especially great. I like the soundtrack button, but it generally seemed to go downhill from there.
The mapping needs work. The areas are huge and empty.
The music needs work. I expected a lot more of it to sound like the title track, quiet and dramatic, but I noticed a lot of tracks that didn't fit and generally weren't high quality.
I played until I stepped on a red button and fought a troop of three bats four times.
I think you could tell an incredible story with this game, but the gameplay just isn't there.

Thanks for taking the time to write your thoughts on this, I really appreciate it.

Yeah, most of the maps were initially done under the assumption that people totally love massive empty overworlds. Next update you'll see several areas be cut down tremendously in size because of how lame spacious areas with nothing in them can be. I need some advice on a map with the level of scale as, say, Dense Forest. Assuming I kept the size of that similarly the same, but included more items and equipment off the beaten path, would that more offset the hassle of traveling large maps?

Music-wise, since the game is still early and nothing dark occurs at this point, I haven't included the more quiet, solemn pieces yet that I have finished. The soundtrack from the beginning was meant to cover a variety of different genres, but I can see what you mean with them not being high quality. I'm not sure what I did wrong when converting them from wav files into mp3s. I might need help with that, they keep getting cut off at the end by a second and it bothers me greatly.

I'm hoping so, I'm always constantly changing dialogue and cutting some entirely if it doesn't fit with what I'm going for. I'm hoping I can polish up the game further in areas that need improvement and work. Thank you so much for the criticisms, though, I really appreciate it.
Hi, I run into the same bug as "michaelthegm".
I stepped onto the red button in the strange house, fought the three bats, the bats escaped, but a loop begins with the same event as stepping on the red button.
After three fights you are stuck on the stairs at the bottom of the map.

There is no more to do than earning money for the stronger axe.

Also Wyatt should have learned a spell named something with flare... at level 4 or 5.
It never appeares on the skill list.

And when choosing "shutdown" on the title screen, nothing happens.
Edit: These bugs should all be fixed now!~

Ooh I see, so it's an actual bug, bleh. Can't believe I overlooked that when testing. That should be a quick fix, sorry about that.

Thank you, I'll be sure to make it so it actually appears, I think I know what I did wrong.

I'm going to get remove this from the title screen eventually. Thanks for reporting these! I'll get these all fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks for fixing the last bugs - here the next 3...

1. One of the butterflies offers to heal you - but the healing has no effect.

2. When answering one of the questions of the next butterfly wrong, you end up in a loop fighting against bats.
Right answers:
Woodstock, 9, 7
.

3. GAME CRUSHING: After you use the teleporter out of the madman's house, you end up in a loop - I tried saving and not saving (as offered) - so now I'm totally stuck!!!

Do you need a tester for this game? I won't programm it, but I may find those looping bugs.

Fixed, will update the build with this later.

This I got to fix too, I wasn't sure what I did wrong at first, but as far as I can see, it will no longer loop if you get it wrong and win the battle, it will allow you to proceed now as it should.

Oh shoot, I'm sorry to hear that! Crap, that really blows. I got it fixed now, very sorry about that game breaking mistake.

Yeah, absolutely. That would be amazing if you could find most of the exploits and obvious game breakers like those, it would be much appreciated man. I'll update very soon here with all the bugs you reported fixed.
After coming from the house with the old man and butterflies . I'm stuck in a loop. can't go any futher.

After coming from the house with the old man and butterflies . I'm stuck in a loop. can't go any futher.

I actually fixed this in the newest patch I'll have uploaded by either tonight or tomorrow!
Played through your actual demo.
There are still many bugs - but at least no gamebreaking ones anymore.
  • After leaving the first town you have to step on the 2 NPC on the little islands to talk to them
  • When returning to the forest map after reaching T. Town, Wyatt stands at the top, gladly not solid
  • At level 6 Davy seems to learn a skill (something with bash) but it didn't appear in the skills.
  • When returning to the sanctuary, the force member (not solid) and the two black summoners stand still there, talking about a gem.
  • In the Winding Alley is a butterfly in a cave wanting to teach Davy a skill but ended up teaching Wyatt Stone again.
  • After the battle against the 3 Imps/Demons the sugar won't heal anymore. The offerer stands again at other path like when he first offered the sugar.
  • When exiting the weapon shop in Mineral Town you end up in front of the weapon shop in T. Town.

Those are only the ones I remember to write down.

Don't let your dream get down.

Question:
There seem to be some Quests - like helping in the item shop or the riddle of the Inn in T. Town - it would be nice to have them really available.

Yikes! Lets see what we got here.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this exactly. Are you saying the player can physically step on top of the two "couples" NPCs?

Yeah, it's been a rather ugly visual error since the first build I launched. I'll eventually think of a solution to it, because it bothers the heck out of me.

Just fixed this! Thanks! :)

I was not aware of this. I hadn't even thought to go back to the Sanctuary after clearing the area out. I will get this fixed since they obviously should not be there.

Thanks! To be honest, Davy from a gameplay standpoint is looking really rough, and is in desperate need of an overhaul when it comes to his toolkit. But I'll get this fixed by the next patch!

That's a pretty nasty bug. Granted there's currently nothing to do in Mineral Town in this update, but still...anyway, it's fixed now!

I plan on having some of these available! I'm not sure if you remember, but prepatch you could help out the old man at Everwhite Village to retrieve something. It won't be until all of the main first chapter is fully complete and functional, though. I'm trying to make for a more satisfying main campaign before I even think of going through with my original plan for additional content.

Give me until the 28th and I'll have a patch update ready by then to fix these bugs! Thanks so much for the report!

This I already forgot, I only remembered something about building snowmen :)
I found what you were talking about. That was so silly, haha. Patched out!

Once chapter one is fully complete I might do something with the snowman thing down the road, but we'll see.

Also, seeing my game played live, toward the end an unexpected glitch with the barrel at the old mans place occurred where it ended up reappearing and blocking off access to the area again, whoa. Messy build, but I'll fix this all in no time! I might also have time to add more to the game like I intended in these next two days, but it might be awfully short of a time for anything substantial.
The barrel isn't so bad as the transporter works fine.
Just debug the game so this demo works as intented. Then you have time til the next release to add more.
The problem, though, is the red switch for whatever reason upon trying to enter up to go past it is treated as a solid physical object, so in the current build if you didn't already snag the Stone build and you complete the Strange Old Man "quest" and try to reenter, it is currently impossible to ever get the Stone skill again. This will be fixed and thoroughly tested to ensure no more problems arise from it.

As promised, the bug fix update will release tomorrow, though, so you can look forward to that!
This Sunday the newest update is releasing! All of chapter one will be complete at last!

It's been a long while in the making, but as far as the games structure goes thus far, I am quite pleased. Now the nitty gritty of getting the rest of the chapters done shall begin. Already been working on Chapter two as I touch on the last of the first chapter, and with enough time spent per day on it, I'm hoping to get the second chapter completed by November.

Thanks to everyone who has been helping support the game thus far and keeping me up to date on bugs that need squishing! I hope when the final game releases it will be a satisfying experience from beginning to end for you all.
