Devblog 37

(...and yes, the logo was rushed).

Hey Guys! So this week my main focus has been on cleaning up bugs and adding sound, unfortunately I am limited to what I can show you in this area so instead we’ve uploaded a video of gameplay to show you how things are so far! As far as features go I’ve redesigned shooting and added in a charged shot as well as started to implement respawning and the fridge checkpoints!

I've been working away on sound effects for STG, and again it took a little back-and-forthing with Etienne. I started out with some fairly basic 8-bit style sounds, but quickly learned from E that our main character is far more interesting. He suggested that Pan should sound very mechanical, and I've been combining some more subtle 8-bit sounds with small machines like camera servos and pulleys.

In this image you can see how I've organized most of the movement-based SFX in Cubase
.

I feel like a parrot but I’ve been managing the project all week. I listen and comment each one of the new SFX. I also comment on the latest build, update the spreadsheet, write the weekly team letter and the devlog. This is taking all my time. One thing I did do however is to update the first message of the thread with a proper presentation of the game like Greg suggested to me. You can look up the first message of this thread in case you’re interested!!!

I also presented the project at Rock, Paper, Shotgun. You can check out the link here. I don't know how active it'll be but it's worth a shot.

I’ve also introduced the project at a few other websites to “soft launch” for an eventual kickstarter. I don’t want to start being desperate and flood everywhere when the time for the KS comes. I want people to already know about the game when the campaign begins.

In order for me to have more time to draw, I’ve decided that I’d provide feedback on progress twice a week instead of every day. I’m thinking this will give me more time to draw in between those feedback updates.

Hi everyone !
I'm come back from the hell for show you some bad sketch of some Boss / Mini Boss, tell me what you think about that !
This week i going finish a first version of the Garden's Level Design; and working on concepts and ideas for the KS's demo.
Also i'm looking of different way to present STG in the french web,  by youtube, festival, Twitch and different website.
Bigger will our audience, faster and better will be our Kickstarter i guess.

Stay tuned,
Nev.

I wanted to show give you guys a little peek at my studio. It's a pretty stripped-down setup compared to what I've seen being a part of film music setups. I'm running a max-spec 2012 27" iMac with Cubase, which I sometimes connect to my old laptop with Vienna Ensemble for some extra RAM. I've been meaning to upgrade my speakers for a while, since they're the KRK's I've had since college, but they get the job done okay. Some of my favorite virtual instruments are U-He's Zebra, Spitfire's Mural String library, Addictive Drums 2 and the more bass-oriented Native Instruments Synths. I also run Lemur on an iPad mini for some extra control, and input MIDI with the keyboard I've had since high school. Until recently, a key aspect of my setup was my Portal 2 mug, but I mourned its passing when the handle snapped off, and have yet to replace it.

*I had to use a link because the image was very big. Check it out though, it's cool! -Etienne
