Like Legionwood? Check out the sequel! http://rpgmaker.net/games/3811/

In production since 2007, Legionwood: Tale of the Two Swords is an epic length traditional role playing game created in RPG Maker VX which was completed in late 2010.

Featured Game!

A short, sweet update: for those who don't know, Legionwood is RMN's featured game this month. I didn't know it was coming, and was pleasantly surprised when I logged in today and saw it on the home page. So uh, kudos to me, I guess?

Anyway, I just want to thank everyone who has played and supported the game (especially those people who provided useful feedback) over the course of its development and the couple of years afterward. Your comments and suggestions have shaped the game and helped me make it into what it is today. Keep on playing and remember to drop a line if you have any thoughts, because an update is never out of the question. I worked on this game for nearly 3 whole years and it was a huge part of my day to day life once. For giving me the chance to see it succeed, I owe you one :)

So celebrate this occasion by giving it a download and playing it through, if you like. Thank you once again, and keep an eye on Legionwood 2, which I am slowly but surely plugging away at. There is plenty more old school RPGing to come!

I'd like to give you my thanks for the wonderful game.
I just recently transferred files, and I noticed that I haven't finished the game yet, so I started playing... up to the point where I'm supposed to go to a very icy place. I've roamed around and still haven't able to go there (I saw a port nearby, but the 'port' itself is blocked by ships, and the area nearby is blocked by some kind of stones on water. I've managed to grab the Incubus summon, though.

Perhaps I'm going through this on the wrong way, or I'm missing something... T__T

Edit:

I got it. Might be a little useful if we can bring up the world map when we can... T___T
i have two bug to report (and hopefully some help :S)
if you sleep in werewolf slayer inn the screen goes black, you can use the menu but cant see anything.

violet cap (halve sp for men) categorized under supply items, so i can't equip it on male character or anyone else :S <- i need help with this one :P well it seem i can equip it after all :)

it would be nice to have a master bug list in faqs,
Just finished it and loved the game. The challenge of it along with a flexible class system kept me loving the gameplay. The story has a few good points and allows you to enjoy the characters. Fun music. Thanks for making it! I'm looking forward to the finished sequel.

I had two glitches that I hope still get fixed for new players. Two songs consistently causes the game to crash at certain points through the song. I found I could replace them to get through those parts of the game. They were OLR03.mid and OLR15.mid.

That's actually an engine limitation. The Final Equipment in Legionwood 1 actually has the maximum Attack value set. Due to the damage formula the engine uses, it's quite hard for damage to exceed 6000 or so.

Did you know that by beating the Rift Entity, you've actually unlocked a much harder version of Castoth? It's supposed to challenge those who defeated the Rift Entity, but if you have an earlier save, try taking Castoth on through that, and he'll die much easier.

Beaten it and the game, completing everything. Micro-review

Story 3,5/5: Well, some good twist, decent PG depth and a very large amount of detail about pretty anything. The writing is truly great, it enhances the evaluation.

Gameplay 3,5/5: The very good AP system is a pro, but I found very boring boss fights and most of all, there is not a perfect "final weapon set". With my "strange" 3-dual wielders-1 all around mage party I had to keep in my bag two secrets swords to make decent damage after the secret boss and the final godlike sword was wielded for my sake in the last battle, DON'T DO IT. Not a great point. If you overpower your PGs you'll end up in ENDLESS fights with enemies meaning no harm and a ridicolous amount of hits needed to kill them.

Music 4/5: Perfect

Graphic 4/5: Very good, but very few, artworks in some cutscene and a well designed word.

I played quite every completed game here and Legion Wood stands comfortably in the top 15. Good work.

The second form of the Rift Entity has roughly the same amount of HP as the first one.

I agree with you about the weaknesses of many of the bosses. It's very easy to exploit these weaknesses. In Legionwood 2, I'm making these exploits no longer exist, though.

PLEEEEASE, in Legionwood 2 make a decent "Final Equipment". I'm against Castoth since 1 hour and a half, all level 50 with the final swords equipped. Well, NEver made more than 6000 damage in a row (ridicolous damage without the celestial mantle even with the sword of lore, 50% evasion rate). I'm lured by the idea to shut down the game without beating it. I won't do it after a so long fight (he's just rechargin SP so I'm boring as death), but it's truly unbalanced.

I personally hate you!!!! LoL

I'm quite at the end of the game, Lv 48 with everyone. Fighting the Rift Entity I used a pretty easy tactic: I've been keeping stealing MP until it had 0, but after an hour it turns into something else and has again its MP... 2 energy bombs faster than my healer and I died. Pretty unfortunate, I guess, but you are really a bad guy! I will retry sooner or later, even if 1 hour of fight is pretty annoying even to me!!! LoL

I'm happy I've downloaded this game again after experiencing bugs in the previous releases made me delete it. I've spent a lot of funny hours here, and even if I won't replay it because I'm pretty sure I've seen everything I liked it very very much.

EDIT P.S.
Except for a really few bosses you can power crush and toxify pretty anything in this game (including the Arena Champion): the strategy you have to display in random fights means nothin' with bosses that are simply too easy.(I've beaten the Arena Champ without even a scrap on my party and without using MP - 3 dual welders and a toxifier mage, and just made it in 8 turns!!)
In fact I had just a bad luck with the rift entity, and you had the correct idea with that sudden SP restore, because otherwise it could have been just a patience trial instead of an hard optional super boss: if you put its sp to 0 it just keeps doing "restore SP" and nothing else meaning no danger at all, its def can be debuffed with a weapon and I just keep osmone and attack for an hour. Anyway, how many HP are left on it when it turns into the new entity?
i enjoyed the story and the gameplay :) thumbs up !
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you liked it, please check out the sequel, which is quite a bit better :)
I downloaded this game after practicing with RPG Maker VX and XP since about 2006 and I have to say, it is magnificent. The concept of it is incredible and the story is great. The only thing about it that bothers me is the enemies damage. It is particularly high compared to the starter enemies but other than that, excellent. I love the AP menu, as well. Congrats on the game.
Wow, I have no idea how muting your computer's sound was causing the error. RPG Maker can be really finnicky sometimes...

Not finishing a side-quest is no big deal for me, but I should have also explained that I've even tried just entering Ascog castle without taking the sapphire or talking to the NPC in front of it, and I still get the error. Since I need to talk to someone in the castle to continue with the main quest, I assume this is a game-ending problem for me. Too bad as I was really enjoying this game.
Having the same problem as stated above, and narrowed it down to one of the audio files that causes the game to crash. Before I was able to rush through the text to barely make it to avoid the inevitable crash. I really have no idea what to do about this I tried repairing and replacing nothing has worked. Just beat Merces in the throne room and can't power my way through the text fast enough :(

Any suggestions I really love this game!
Edit:Found solution was mute sound on my computer for the duration of the music
Thanks for playing. I'm glad you enjoyed the game! The Orb of Origin (when it works) just puts the ultimate equipment in your inventory. I'm not too sure why it crashes exactly, as it literally just adds the items and displays a message, but I'll upload an update soon that instead just gives you the equipment directly after the battle instead of the Orb.

Re Zenith Armor: yes, that's intentional, for balance reasons. I mean, wearing it makes you pretty much invincible, so the fact that it resists buffs is a counterweight to that -- though the Creation Sword increases your stats so much that you probably won't ever need to buff again anyway.

Keep an eye out of LW2!
Just finished defeating the rift entity, tried to use the orb of origin and the game crashed. Tried looking for a solution from previous comments, and could not get it to work. I downloaded a trial version of rpgmaker vx and tried playing around to get it to work, still no luck. I then decided to start playing around with equipment stats and trying to get the auto mp recover to work(this also could not figure out)among other things

I did notice one thing that seems wierd, the zenith armor is resistant to all stats up(like the miracle lute that doubles stats for all members) if you have the zenith armor on, it will resist it. Is that intentional?

BTW really enjoy the game :).
After my second attempt I finally beat this game not too long ago. It was great and really fun to play! I liked the customization and exploring a lot and I also thought your twists was good. Overall, an awesome game by an awesome developer. Good luck on LW2!
Thanks for playing! The game is modeled on the older Final Fantasy games, particularly the first three, and so how the locations are set out and the pace of the game mainly comes from those. The story has a little more to it, though this game is just meant to be a fun old school RPG.

Please do try the sequel, if you have a chance. It's quite an improvement.
I played it, but i wasnt so great that i thougth. Storyline is very simple and you just visit once in one location. There are only few things to do in cities.
Just ok game.
Hmm, that is a shame. I'm not sure what will fix it, but would you mind sending your save file to me at dark_gaia@live.com.au, and I'll see if I can rectify it somehow. Glad you enjoyed the game so far, though :)
