NEW SUPER DIRECTOR'S CUT DZ!

Heeey everybody, I'm here with exciting news! (what I think is exciting anyways)
DYSTOPIAN ZOMBIES got a massive update on many, many levels! I'm updating the main download now and it sure be available soon.

I urge anyone who has played to please give the new version a spin if you can and see how you like all the additions and fixes. As this is how I see DZ as a Director's Cut version because it has a lot of things I wanted to add originally. Included in that list is:

More enemies! There's now an addition of robots and raiders! Yay! Diversity!
Music doesn't loop and changes with settings
A whole new Light Rail station to explore as well as more buildings are explorable now!
Balancing with enemies, stats and items.
Added a new Follower to be recruited!
Two additional merchants have been added to North City Ruins
There's now two more quests to do(you still have to only complete three to continue)

Annd good news is that DYSTOPIAN ZOMBIES! is back in production and I hope to add a lot more content as I originally planned without cutting it awkwardly short.

Well, that's all I can think of right now so until next time! Be on the look out for more screenshots and development soon!

Hoping to have a DEMO out soon! It will be basic but just to show what the game is about and how it plays. I'm looking to finish all the items, combat and mapping for the first area done and tested before I release a "Chapter 1"
I'm close, actually. I have most of the database work done and the mapping for the first area(which is huge) is done for the most part unless I add any more maps or space on the big city area.
Another thing to implement would be levels, weapon variety and dialogue(there isn't going to be a whole lot unless you count written letters or messages left behind by survivors)

I'm looking forward to completing this and maybe one day work towards my commercial title if the first chapter goes well.
It's going to be a fun romp either way and is a action-packed Infection with on screen combat and improved graphics 100% owned tileset assets (finally no more rips!)

I'll be working on DYSTOPIAN ZOMBIES! pretty regularly and keep this page updated!

I've made a set of modern and gun-related item and equipment icons a while ago for someone who never finished their game nor used them. Maybe you'd be interested in having a look at them? I'd hate that such assets go to waste :P

This is quite an interesting game! I played it briefly and overall, I think it shows plenty of promise. I like the setting and choices you could do between different characters and starting points. It really felt like a zombie apocalypse. I'm sure the game will have plenty of replay-ability too!

Some things I noticed right away (I only played for a few minutes since I had to go to bed):
- Some tiles have pass-ability issues. I could walk on the walls in some places.
- Attacks felt pretty limited. The combat felt like a spam-fest, but it has its charm, of course. I'm sure the game will open up a lot more later in development, giving the player even more ways to tackle the zombies.
- I suggest you to add more stuff to the HUB. Show off the usable buttons available and what they do (for example; Q: Sword Slash, D: Fire Pistol, E: Grenade Throw etc.). Hotkeys for usable Items would also be great!

Making Action RPGs in RM is pretty challenging and can be hard to get right. I do however think it's possible to make fun games in this style using RM however. You might want to check out these two games for inspiration:

Castle Oblivion: Foundation by kelarly
666 by Vlad

None of them are "perfect", but I do think they're pretty enjoyable in their own ways. Just thought that they could sparkle up some ideas for you, since it's not too often that we see Action games made in RM that actually get finished.

My big aim is exploration and replayability(to some extent of course) while being able to fight on screen against zombies en masse. An even bigger more than likely unattainable dream is to have this with online multiplayer even if that's four players to a world. but that's for way later/never and doesn't really pertain to this yet I'm just babbling.

As for the bugs/advice:
I'm 99% sure I got most of the passibility errors and just haven't updated, but I will do another sweep, thank you. :)
My hope is to diverse the skills and weapon as the games goes with even lootable better guns or melee weapons. But it will probably be based more on level and you will receive upgrades to your weapons as well as stats. But of course there are no levels set yet at this time!
The combat is a bit spammy isn't it. And that might be a balancing thing too, and again a level thing because you will get stronger the DEMO just doesn't have it set up. So I figured the zombies have to start out a little stronger to scale for at least the first chapter.
But I will look into some stats and damage formulas and whatnot. :D

About the HUD, it's been a conscious decision to not have the buttons or usable Keybinds/hotkeys. And the biggest reason is that it cluttered the screen too much and took away from zombie visibility and the atmosphere being blocked. Which is why I narrowed it down to just the main HP/AMMO/EXP HUD.
You have all the keybinds for 4 skills, one melee weapon and two items, which is usually health and ammo clips.
It's something I did think about though a lot, but I'd rather keep that area as it is.

And I will check out those games! Though I do believe I've played 666. :)

I'm definitely willing and hopeful enough to finish DYSTOPIAN ZOMBIES! unless life stuff happens because it's been a lot of fun and can't wait to see where it ends up.

I also added a new merchant to the city and cleaning up some recent bugs and errors.

Thanks for everyone here and elsewhere for the feedback so far, Episode 1 is almost complete with quests a boss and a bridgeway into Episode 2.
When it's done I'll release a full Episode 1 download.

For now I have also extended the limit of the DEMO/SNEAK PEEk and you can find that in the current download.


He also speaks nothing but spanish.

Edit2: Some bigger issues have been fixed, some minor stuff and I added up to level 5 for now and only stat changes. Have yet to implement new skills or combos for the classes.

Random thoughts

being called a engineer i was imagining the ability to build turrets :3

should have a save location at the starting room

not sure what the point of leveling up is.

no more ammo for flame thrower? its so much better then the sniper rifle :3

General 40M dropped (not sure if you can win currently)
This is not my thing at all. its like...if you were to play a dynasty warriors game and every enemy was a captain,you had limited attacks and there was no goal.
so you can imagine how stressful it is in that area.

but the game play mechanics were okay-good. if this was deigned more like a resident evil game where there were limited enemies usually and had puzzles,key items,files to read,non maze like mapping,had a map of the area ect.
it would of been a more pleasant experience for me.

it lacks purpose for me as someone who wants a good story and characters and most of this is mindless attempts at slaughtering mass zombies with limited ability to do so.
even just running by them may be a pain between there speed and single lane areas.


Overall
Did not enjoy,would not recommend this.

Sorry you didn't like it shayoko! You played the DEMO version, right? Or have you downloaded the episode one release? Because there is three shops to sell and buy at.
Leveling at the moment is just stat and HP gain. soon to come will be more skills and combos.
The key to ammo is scavagening junk/supplies or finding cash to use to buy ammo at the shops.
Also, a lot of the "resident evil" stuff you mentioned I am going to add at some point with puzzles, mini games, files to read and possibly even a map of the area since the first area is so huge.
It's best to take it slow and play it smart to fight the zombie hordes!

edit: About viewing the follower's life is P key I believe. It's not fully shown yet because I have yet to fix a few things with the player switching out followers.

Thank you again though for your criticism and feedback, I really do appreciate it even though you didn't enjoy the game overall. Hopefully in the future when there are more features and solid story. :)
