THE GAMEMAKER PRESENTS THE REVIEW OF:

NOTE: This review only reflects my personal opinion, and people may differ from what I think of the game. Some people may think that this is the best game ever, some people may think that this is a piece of crap that must be burned to ashes immediately. If you, the developer, agree with the points in my review or not, it's up to you.

Hello again! Since it took me more than two months to start reviewing again, I deciced to make one review more to compensate for the time lost. And so I took a short game in order to make it more easy to review. This game interested me for a while, and I saw that nobody gave it a review yet, so I decided to hop at the chance! The chance to get more Makerscore! XD

So, let's get this game out of the way!

This game was developed once again by the dynamic duo of MarioKuta and Racheal, creators of games like April was a Fool and Castle Chase (Which sadly for this one, we'll never get a sequel... :( ), both games that I played and absolutely loved. This time accompanied by Indrah, another known developer here, which created the whole Arum Universe games. As I said before, the story of the game interested me, and with these team of developers, I felt sure that I was going to have a good time with I Object!?.

Let's see how that turned out.

WARNING: There are high chances of finding bad jokes in the screenshots below.

The story of the game is pretty much like this: The Dark Lord, ruler of the Demon Realm. has just found out that his son Alexei, has ran away in order to marry a human girl. The Dark Lord, of course, didn't liked this, and sent his three best generals to retrieve his son. This... peculiar group is conformed by the dumb and reckless Berserker Dimitri, the brash and headstrong Dark Knight Sasha, and the focused and unamused Sage Nikka. So these trio has the task of taking Prince Alexei back to his home, while also try to bear with each other's company...

If you were looking for a big epic story, then you'll not find it here. What you'll find here is a short and funny ride full of silly humour, jokes about RPG tropes, and maybe an outdated reference, and that is pretty much the strongest aspect of I Object!?. The banters between the three main characters, and the dialogues produced by talking to the many NPC's and interacting with the enviroment objects are what keep this game entertaining. Trust me, during the entirety of the quest, you'll never get bored with people like Dimitri, Sasha, and Nikka in your party.

There weren't any grammar errors I could discern, or other dialogue flaw I could discern, so the writing does great here! :D

The plot of the game summarized by Sasha.

The objective of this game is basically look for a bunch of items that can help you find Alexei in the castle where the game occurs, and for that, you'll have to look around in all of the rooms of the castle until you find the one room that trigger an event to allow you to progress the story. In the way, you can get in fights with all sorts of enemies, but by exception of the fights that advance the story, these are optional. By winning these battles, you get accesories that you can equip to your characters in order to make them more powerful. And here lies the reason of why the game hasn't a higher score.

The battles work like this: The characters don't level up and their stats have already a set ammount, they also have a fixed set of skills according with their class. The battle system is the default one, but with the addition of some things like cooldowns for some skills, and a Berserk state for Dimitri that triggers when his TP reaches a certain point. All of this would be fine, except that if you know what accessory give to which character (And it doesn't take a lot of thought to figure that out), the game becomes quickily easy, allowing you to annihilate enemy troops in a few turns. It doesn't help that at the end of the battles, all of the party's HP and MP is fully restored, so you'll barely use any of the consumable items that you'll find in your adventure.

There were also a couple of puzzles in the game, which were pretty clever in my opinion, giving how it took me a while to figure them out... XD

Aside from that, there were not bugs or other bad design elements to point out.

That's pretty much how it usually works in RPG's. Especially this one.

Regarding graphics, the maps in this game are probably some of the most well decorated maps I've ever seen in an RPG Maker game. The resources used are mostly RTP, (altough there may have been some edits that I couldn't notice) but as I said, there are greatly used in the crafting and decoration of the maps. Some are more detailed than others, but they were still really well made, and that can't be denied.

The facesets for the main characters were drawn with MarioKuta's art style, as it's usual in hers and Racheal's games, and it's an art style that I'm very fond of. I liked it in their other games, and it's used just as well in this one too. There were also custom battlers for the enemies, which there were likely used from another source, but they were nice still. :)

You definetly should! Because this maps are really good! :D

The music in the game is a mix of the RTP themes and some custom pieces, but just as in the mapping, the music here is used really nicely, fitting all of the events of the game like it should. The sounds are RTP, but that's not a big deal here. :P

So to finish this review, I'll say that this was indeed my shortest review so far, and that's mostly because this game was pretty short itself. But it was a really enjoyable short game, with a great dose of humor. Of course, it would probably had been better if the battles were more balanced, but that aside, this is a game that I would totally recommend you to give a chance. Trust me, you won't regret it. ;)

And for the developers, you did as always a great job, and I'll be glad to play whatever games you make in the future! And you better finish Gemstar, or otherwise... >:D

I've seen some really horrible people in my life. But this one... This one tops them all... D:

- The story and characters are really funny and probably the best aspect of the game.
- Loved the character potraits for the main cast!
- All maps were well made and well decorated.
- Half RTP music and half custom music, but it's well used nonetheless.

- The battles become a walk in the park once you get enough accessories.
- The instances of lags in the game, that while it may be atributed to the engine, it was still pretty annoying at points.
- There weren't much other things to do, apart from getting in battles and solving a few puzzles...

Final Rating: 3.5 Stars

For future reference, here's a list showing what I consider the stars to mean:
N/A - Not Available: This game has not a note. This is probably because either the game is a demo, is a joke game, or the game is simply sooooo horrible that giving it a note would be doing it a favor...
0.5 - Abysmal: The lowest grade possible in an RMN review. For a game to get this note, it must have failed in absolutely every aspect that makes a game to the point of not having any redeemable qualities. I wouldn't give this game even to my worst enemy.
1 - Terrible: This game sucks badly. Whatever it was trying to accomplish gets lost in a sea of badly designed and/or implemented game elements. It may have very few good qualities which is what saves it from being Abysmal.
1.5 - Bad: This game has some good qualities, but sadly, these end up overweighted by the many flaws that surround it. You may find some enjoyment in this game, but don't expect it to last much.
2 - Mediocre: There was a clear potential for this game, but it ended up failing to live up to it's premise. Only recommended if you like the game's genre.
2.5 - Subpar: While this game isn't exactly bad, there were a few important flaws that leave this game below the average standards. It's still enjoyable, but only to a certain extent.
3 - Average: Basically, a game that has a fair share of pros and cons. It could be better, but is still worth a shot.
3.5 - Good: A game that with a couple of good qualities, manages to stand up between the Average games. It still has a long way to go, but it's a step on the right direction.
4 - Great: This game gets a lot of things right and manages to be an enjoyable experience. It's still not exempt of cons though, which deprives it from getting a higher score.
4.5 - Awesome: A game that regardless of the genre, it's totally worth the play. You'll have fun with it from beginning to end, and the memories of it will remain fresh in your head for a long while. It doesn't get the perfect score by this much.
5 - Epic (Win): The perfect score. This game is sooooo great that you probably won't believe me until you play it. So, no matter what you're doing right now, stop it, download the game, and PLAY IT! Trust me, you won't regret it... :)

MarioKuta ahaha......... I'll never escape this name.

Thanks for the review! The game was set out to be fun to make and fun to play, so I'm glad you enjoyed the dialogue between the characters! :) As long as this game makes people laugh, I am happy.

I do agree the balancing was not very good. There's at least three excuses I have for that, but excuses are moot! Someday I'll make a game that cares about balancing. Someday.

Also! I'm glad you found the puzzles clever! I like designing puzzles, but I never know how good they are. Verdict seems to be mixed on these two, but I am glad you liked them.

Thank you again for the review! (and for complimenting my writing and art ;D)

gemstar is next. no worries. and I am excited for it.
