Let's Try: Nakaishi Wars (Demo)

The Demo for Nakaishi Wars leaves me feeling rather lukewarm about the project at best. I suppose the main reason behind this is that the demo is all about showing off the combat system, but the battles in Nakaishi Wars don't really differentiate themselves from your standard Tactical/Strategy Role Playing Game. Maybe there are plans to expand the system, but as it stands the combat demo isn't all that interesting.

Another problem I have with the demo is that all of the mechanized armor suits don't differentiate themselves from the crew. I'm not sure if this is because the suits aren't finished or because the suits are meant to be so discrete as to be unnoticeable, but as is I find the designs of the combat sprites for the playable characters rather off-putting. Though, this might be because I tend to associate mechanized armor with mobile suits or the likes of Big O.

Another odd design choice in my opinion is that the crew gains experience points for simply recharging their energy reserves during combat. Don't get me wrong I'm used to games giving characters experience for using healing abilities at this point since I've seen it done in games like Bleach the 3rd Phantom (DS), Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (PS2), and Luminous Arc (DS). But it strikes me as odd when a character is given experience for doing something that they will have to do on a regular basis simply because of the suits limited energy capacities.

Another thing that bugged me about the demo is that the only opposition to the player are a few slimes. I realize this is meant to be a technical demo for the combat system, but I really wish the developer had picked a more visually interesting enemy for the only combat simulation the player has access to.

And to finish things off I noticed a minor bug in the game as well. If you select a skill in the action menu and then deselect it, all of the descriptions for your various skills will disappear.

I... didn't expect this! But, you're right in that I don't have graphics for the armored suits quite yet. And, yeah, maybe this was a tad hastily thrown together. Funnily enough, I used to have "Recharge" on the main-menu that could change into "Wait" if you've already done an action. Not sure why I changed it in the first place, but, I should be able to switch it back.

I wanted to look into re-balancing critters anyway, so, having players fight something more interesting would also be a thing do to.
