What a shock. Thanks guys!

Changes are constantly being made though. I'm thinking I'm going to do away with the hearts and replace them with mini-sized portraits of the characters (probably just their eyes or something), which will change colors based on what status abnormality he or she is hit with. This is so that the players will have an easier time identifying who is who during battle.

Of course, having two character portraits in batlte would be a bit of a mess, so I may be forced to change the battle layout all together. No biggie!

Why not just make the actual facesets transparent in battle, and make your battle sprites into portraits? This should be easy enough since you use a copy-pastable monster event on maps.
Instead of hearts, just use there sprites. You won't need to change anything else. You can grey them out if they are dead, tint them green for poison etc.
That sounds even easier. I may do just that.

Alternatively, place the goddamn hearts near the goddamn facesets of their goddamn owners.

Or, make facesets into battlechars and place them "conveniently" where "normal" facesets would go. Then, the faceset would respond to status conditions, etc, in real time.
