LOST LEGACY: AN ANIMANIA STORY
By Christian Roule
Platform- RM2k3
Status- Complete

Story

It was a time when life was uncertain and death was as commonplace as the terror that accompanied it. It was a time when self proclaimed kings conquered the land and ruled the commoners with magic, might and murder. It was a time when those who lusted for control raced to uncover terrible secret powers best left forgotten and abandoned. A time when the innocent often found themselves as sacrifices of blood for rituals mankind was never meant to perform. This suffering caused a great outcry for justice and a need for heroes to end the agony of the oppressed. For without someone to take up the sword and fight for the downtrodden, the world wound fall into ruin at the hands of the merciless. The player experiences the childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood of Animé, and his sister Tsunami, children who become orphaned after an evil king destroys their nameless village in Blackwood Forrest. Their journey is filled with questions and tribulations and along with the companions they meet along the way, they will help lead the fight against those who would keep their world oppressed.

Intro

The story begins on a northern European continent during the dark ages with a lone man traveling a dark road on a dark and stormy night. Along the way, he comes across a nameless young girl holding her baby brother. She doesn't speak much and he can see that they are wet, cold and hungry. He takes them to his house and offers them food and shelter for the night. He learns what horrors these young children have suffered through and feeling sorry for them, offers to take them in and school them in the ancient art of Kokon do. He warns that the training will be difficult, but the girl accepts. He names her Tsunami for he can see the strength in her and yet she is also gentle and calm as the deep ocean. He names her brother Anime for he can see he is animated and full of life. Both Tsunami and Anime begin their new lives with their Sensei and all is peaceful until the day he angers the wrong person.

Rating

This game voluntarily gives itself a rating of 'M' for Mature. There are themes in the game that may be too dark or mature for minors, and there are several instances of heavy violence and strong language.

Characters

Tsunami:
The beautiful and serene heroine of Lost Legacy, Tsunami comes from humble beginnings and, throughout the story, remains humble, doing the things she does because they are 'the right thing to do'. While her mannerisms are extremely proper (she never uses contractions), Tsunami is one of the most friendly and loving characters in the story. Her love for her little brother, Anime, is without condition or measure, and she will go to any lengths to protect him.

Anime:
The younger brother of Tsunami, Anime shares the spotlight with Tsunami as a main character, although his story only comes to light near of the end of the game. A troubled young boy, who is riddled with inner conflict about himself and his feelings towards his sister, and prone to fits of uncontrollable rage, much of the story is experienced through Anime's blue feral eyes, giving the player an almost 'animalistically innocent' point of view.

Lina Inverse:
While the main characters meet Lina Inverse quite by chance, the events and circumstances that tie their destiny to hers is anything but circumstantial. As time goes on, it becomes apparent that this brash and common sorceress wields not only incredible power, but also a key to the overall story.

Gourry Gabriev:
Even though Gourry joins the main characters along with Lina Inverse, he is by no means her shadow. This swordsman can hold his own very easily, and is more than capable of defending against strong attacks. His loyalty to Lina is unquestionable, and despite her often times verbally-abusive behavior towards him, Gourry remains her steadfast companion

Zidane Tribal:
Zidane Tribal joins your party in Orleans, but only after a grave misunderstanding that causes a very entertaining sequence of events. While the cheerful Thief puts on airs of being a shameless Lady's Man, underneath that grinning exterior lay a heart of gold. He quickly becomes both Anime's best friend and a valuable member of the party. While he falls for Princess Garnet at first sight, he never loses his ability to be there for his friends.

Garnet Til Alexandros:
The middle daughter of Crown Prince Phil de wil Alexandros, Garnet has always been much quieter than her father or siblings, and often times feels alienated from her blood family. Her love of her people is foremost, and she's never given thought to romance. However, there is a deep connection between Garnet and the main characters, as well as Zidane, and that connections irreparably ties the somber Princess into the deeper story of Lost Legacy.

General Beatrix:
Introduced as the General of the Alexandrian Army, Beatrix is the only character in Lost Legacy that is not immediately playable. You will get control of her near of the end of the first volume, but after that, she is an invaluable ally. Like the other playable characters, Beatrix is karmically tied to the main characters, Anime in particular, and seems to have a keen interest in him, but how and why will not be revealed for quite some time.

Khali:
Khali is an enigmatic character that joins the party at the start of Year Twelve. For the remainder of the game, Khali goes in and out of the group, seemingly at random, acting as flighty as a dove on a spring day. She is whimsical and care-free, and yet her dubious profession hints at a darker secret. Who is this mysterious girl? Where is she from? Why is she here? What does she know about the deeper mysteries of the world? Would she even tell?

I'm not dead yet!

Just a note to the community as a whole that while I have been gone, I am not dead. The company that I work with has had massive lay offs and my department is about the only one (other than Sales and Engineering) that is still fully functional. Needless to say, reali-life has forced me to retrench and focus on things other than this community. My wife and I are working on the next installment of this game, I am planning on finishing my Game Design series, and I do plan to become active again on the boards.

Just not now. Hopefully in few weeks to a month. I'll try to be better and keep people posted.

Wait, I got the off site download to work, is that the full version?
Earthbound X, the offsite download is also the full version. Not sure why the main download isn't working now.
I just checked it and the main download seems to be working now. I'm not sure what happened. I'll keep a close eye on things, though.
This game is odd.

Good plot.
good characters.
Bad balance: Some mobs wipe you instantly rest are justpushovers and most bosses are way to easy as well.
Also goary needs buffing to bring him up to Anima for dmg as thats what hes there for.

Also can you make a hard mod versian of this game?
Played te game through but why does it end when you kil raoul surely the game should carry on. With the mazaku invasion.

Are you righting the next sectiono of the game?
This game is actually part 1 of a 3 part story. Part 2 is currently in the making, you can read more about on Mayor Anime's site here: http://z13.invisionfree.com/InspirationalDesigns/index.php?showtopic=87 :)
The names scared me away. Far away. (How am I supposed to take the game seriously with those names?)
i encounteres some serious problem, which, while not technicaly a bug still makes the game impossible to play (of course, SPOILER ahead):
I'm passing test with Kokon masters, and i can't beat the old guy. I checked in the walkthrough (which i had to use for the first time just moment before while "fighting" Nergal), and found out that i need some kind of skill which i don't have at the moment (level 12), probably i woulkd get it at higher evels... if there were a way to grind.(and even then i'm not sure i woul bother, as i hate grinding). Isn't there some way to beat the old guy without this skill, (“Wyld Cyclone"), or at least some way to gains some levels??
Hey Szacun. I don't think that there is a way to defeat him without Wyld Cyclone (gained at level 13). That's one reason why ,when you were making your way up Mount Quaf, Chronos at the time crystal says to make sure you are at least level 15 before finishing. He also tells you that you won't be able to level up for a while.

You don't have to defeat the Kokon Masters to be able to progress though. Just go up to the waterfall area to move forward.

You'll be able to level up then once you start the Journeymen Trials, and you really will want to level up to about 15 here. A technique Tsunami will gain then will help a whooole lot. You don't have to have it, it just helps a lot.
How should i get inside Alexandria castle with Zidane in order to save princess???? The fat guard doesn t let me in....... Also when i started year 12 there is a bug i f you enter football cafe you can change party and take princess with you when you are supposed to play only with Zidane that leads to being able to talk with advisor after reading older sister s diary and losing a part of the game....But how to get inside castle i am with zidane and the blond haired guy due to the bug i told you earlier(i should be only with zidane normally)
Never mind i found it but its odd. The first time when the fat guard insulted the stripper she got mad and left and zidane said she would talk to her after he finish with the castle bussiness.....When i closed the game and opened it again cause i couldn t enter the castle when fat guard insulted her Zidane said that he doesn t mind and she didn t leave party and told me to ask pub keeper how to enter and all went smoothly
For anybody that enjoyed this game and wants to know the full story about the world of Animainia (The LARP this game and Threshold were made from) you can visit his site here:

http://life-larp.com/

and click on "Live Action." Go to the "Extras" tab to view a complete timeline and read a summary of all 16 LARPS (you can also download the optional soundtrack to go with each one). Then click the "Story" tab for the final 17th summary which also has a soundtrack and an opening and ending video.

It's quite a bit of reading, but I highly recommend it as it really is an interesting, entertaining story overall. If you've played this and Threshold, any questions you may have had will be answered but it shouldn't wain any interest in playing pt 2 of this game when it's completed.
Hi. I played Lost Legacy, finally beat the (oh, won't tell - let's say last boss) and, by the way, really enjoyed it. But - where will be second part of it? Is it in development? Or hiatus?
Hi backy007! Since I assisted in beta testing it, I can tell you that the final patch for this game here (part 1) was near completion. It fixes all the spelling/grammar errors and any other minor bugs that were reported. It more importantly sets up the frame work for part 2 so when it's made you can continue your game from the final save. The patch will be released, I just can't say when.

There is another completed game you can play now though, Threshold. It continues Anime's story but is not a direct sequel to Lost Legacy. You can get it here: http://life-larp.com/videogames/threshold_main.shtml I have to say, I enjoyed it just as much as I did this game here. There is a full walkthrough for it on the forums listed on this game page. If you have any questions or need help with it (since there is no game page for it here on this site) ask there and I or another member will help you.
Well, I read about Threshold on the author's page before and thinking about playing it, but the fact that I read about it's difficulty scared me. But hey, with walkthrough nothing is unbeatable. :)
Don't let the apparent difficulty scare you away from at least trying ;) I played the entire game before the walkthrough and didn't have that much difficulty, although I did die a few times during boss fights :P The walkthrough will be of help to you then since it has a basic strategy section at the beginning and Mayor Anime himself did the all the boss strategies. So give it a try! It's been awhile since I played but, if you need any assistance, I'll be happy to help you on the forums. Have fun :)
I recall the unreachable bridge isle driving me mad. I wish the game were whole -would be epic.

I loved taking locations from final fantasy (lindblum) and making them in rpgmaker style. you should do that with the rest of the game if you ever want to finish it. tons of old psx stuff to wrok with
Please make part 2...

Please...@3@

Oh god yes, this one was pretty good, make the second part.
I love your writing for this game, and it has a very good plot so far too.(still fairly early into it) Awsome game, I'd also like to request you to make a continuation to the story if you have the time and the will =P Either way, great game! I hope things turn out alright with you job, partly cause that sucks to hear, and partly cause I'd really like to see future games from you =P Games like this are what got me into indie RPGs, keep up the good work =D

Also, for the in battle voices in the importent battles such as fighting Stiles and Rapier, in the second game would it be possible to add in a text box? While I had an easy time understanding most people, Stiles was at times difficult to understand. I wouldn't really expect this to be re done for the first one, but if you were able to add it in for future projects I'd love you =P
