Announcing the Act I Remake!

Ladies and gentlemen, LAWyers and LAWyettes of all ages, I am pleased to announce the existence of the Act I Remake! Having been worked on for a number of months now, this new version of Act I is intended to be a significant upgrade over previous versions. Most maps have been tweaked, edited, and in many cases completely redone. Some examples:

All new mapping, as well as other new gameplay additions are thanks to the tireless and talented efforts of SGCN.

In addition, the new version will feature voice acting, new subquests, and new picture cutscenes! Here’s an example of the latter:

All new artwork comes from the remarkably talented hand of Reirei18 and is colored by the brilliant King-sama.

And let’s not forget improvements to the writing!

Just kidding.

The basic structure of Act I is virtually complete; all that remains is the wait for the “bells and whistles” to be completed, as well as beta testing. My hope is that everything will come together in a couple of months. If you have any comments, questions, suggestions or other feedback, I’d love to hear from you!

Oh, wow. This is some great timing, isn't it... Not even sure what to say. It's really sudden. :(
Buuut, it looks like things are going to be all right after all. :D Long live RMN!

SGCN: Bells and whistles take a while to make, it seems...

Benos: Somehow ironic, isn't it?

JayEsz666: Happy to hear that. :) I believe the Act II demo is still floating around (I was wondering how people were still downloading it... apparently, the link is right here!) I'm not so sure another Act II demo would be the best idea at the moment, but we'll see. Surely more LAW stuff lurks on the horizon...

I will admit, this seems to be a grand and very welcome revision. One thing I would like to point out (if no one has mentioned it over the years) is the fog overlay picture that was displayed in one of the valleys of the original game. I think how you had it set up was for the picture to be displayed but on a parallel process instead of an auto-event with a switch to ensure that the picture would not be forced to reappear constantly, thereby causing a bit of lag on slower computers.

EDIT: Going into the project, it was EV0016 of "Straukpass" along the northwestern corner of the map.
Ah, thank you Corfaisus! This is exactly the sort of thing I want to correct in the remake. :)
I've started this game a few times over the years, but various computer crashes etc. stopped me from ever getting past the second town (I think), sigh. (as well as a long period of scared avoidance a couple of years ago after realising the similarities the first few hours of my own game at the time bore to it (as you can probably tell by the reduction in textsize, I will admit that that might not have been the most appropriate reaction XD)) Though I'm a couple of hours into my current playthrough, I'll probably scrap it here and wait until this revamp comes out, anyway. It's looking pretty good! And I swear I'll backup this time. >.>

Question, though: you say the (v. nice, by the way) custom portraits here are for picture cutscenes, but are you using the same face portraits as before throughout the rest of the game, like in the forest screenshot, or is that just a WIP? Because the shift in styles might be a little weird... though I appreciate that neither getting custom art for every single facesetted character nor removing every other character's portraits are likely to be viable/desirable options...

Also, you might not be revealing this yet but just out of interest, how much of it is going to be voice-acted? I'm intrigued to see how this'll turn out!

woah wow wow lavie looks cute
Eike: Heh, hope you enjoy! :)

Yeah, I will be using the same portraits (with one exception), for precisely the reasons you've stated. Plus, I've kinda grown used to them over the years. :) As for how much, that really depends on a number of factors. It definitely won't be everything, though (pretty sure a file size in the gigabytes wouldn't be appreciated...).
