It seems a little self righteous and self-centered right? Haha I think Adon means something like lord of lords, and I am making the darn game so why not give myself credit inside of the game? Haha there are other minor 'gods' in the game as well.

My wording is always so misleading, here is how it goes: Alder and Kara are mandatory as in you get them when the game starts. That's what mandatory means; getting the characters by progressing thru the story line. It is possible to have all 10 Characters in your party during one play through, as long as you don't skip out on getting Deon and Semiya.
Entering Semiya's shop starts a scene that will require you to prove to her that your cause is worthy of her joining. Which you won't be able to do until you've recruited Vicktor, a mandatory character. Once you got him, you go back to her shop and do a scene, then she joins your party.
Deon is a character that is part of the events going on in Adot, the only town in the Jungle Region, and the center of Adonism. He is recruited by searching for him, many of the paths in the Jungle Region have nothing to do with the story, and it's easy to get lost. Ariel and Deon are childhood friends, so when they find him she asks him to join and he agrees.

The only character with a multiple choice scenario is the required character Athena. Your trapped in the library until she is recruited.

Pandora and Cypress are my two favorite characters, and yes, Pandora's skillset was interesting to make. And Black Mages aren't entirely useless, they just aren't the Armageddon they usually are in games like Final Fantasy. It's just that the player can survive without him.

Thank you~!

Examine doesn't reveal status resistance, I have too many to fit. But they wouldn't need to write their weaknesses down, once she Examines an enemy, it will always be available. Same if you were to defeat that enemy. All Examine is doing is giving you the information BEFORE you ever slay an unexamined enemy. Which does make it very useful against bosses. So yes, I see your point.

So what I plan to do is pull the Examine skill, and let all information be available automatically. And in exchange I'll have to find a more relevant replacement.

Also, I think it's important to know that these characters aren't available to you at the start of the game, if that is causing any confusion.

Alder and Kara go around the regions recruiting two mandatory characters and CAN recruit two optional characters. Once they go to the Shadelands however, they CAN'T recruit those characters anymore. (subject to change) In the Shadelands, there are THREE mandatory characters you'll come across, and one OPTIONAL character. (Pandora) So in other words you can't choose from 10 characters at the start of the game. You can however, re-arrange your battle party.

Just clarifying.

Characters

Very useful, not all bosses make it apparent which elements they are weak to, same with enemies. Or their physical appearance according to the player may not indicate what they think it is indicating as far as what they are 'probably' weak against.

Characters

There are no other items that scan enemy weaknesses. Athena's Examine spell is a way of learning information about an enemy IN BATTLE. After slaying an enemy, their information becomes available regardless of whether she used it or not. With information available about their stats and elemental properties, the player can choose what they want to do.

So I guess in a way it's not extremely useful. Though all enemies and bosses can be scanned.

edit: added information about which characters are optional

Characters

Magic doesn't play as large of a role as it normally would, and statuses are given more prominence. There are also more ways to take an enemy aside from spamming physical attacks (which might not work well) and elemental weaknesses. I have a lot of status effects in the game and I would love for them to be utilized. I do have a list of characters I consider Physical and Magical oriented, albeit without a "Both" or "Neither" category.

Physical vs Magical
PHYSICALLY-ORIENTED CLASSES:

ALDER - KNIGHT
VICKTOR - BERSERKER
PANDORA - DARK KNIGHT
CYPRESS - ENCHANTER
ESMA - WEAPONDANCER

MAGICALLY ORIENTED CLASSES:

KARA - MONSTER MAGE
ARIEL - HEALER
DEON - SAGE
SEMIYA - CHEMIST
ATHENA - COSMIC

Most characters have a way of inflicting a status ailment or letting other characters or themselves inflicting status ailments. So categorizing them by that would be irrelevant.
Though if i were to make the list more accurate, i guess it would be something like:

PHYSICALLY ORIENTED CLASSES:

ALDER - KNIGHT (he is just a physical attacker with physical attacks that inflict some statuses, healing a little, cover)

VICKTOR - BERSERKER (definitely a physical oriented class)

PANDORA - BLOOD KNIGHT (she DOES have a few magical abilities later on, but she doesn't really do any magic, her magical stats are too bad for it to be extremely useful) she uses her own health to have various effects)

CYPRESS - ENCHANTER (he can 'enchant' himself to do 4x damage to certain enemy types, and let him and others inflict several different statuses, but is otherwise physical)

ESMA - WEAPONDANCER (pure physical, with some added elemental status to attacks)

MAGICALLY ORIENTED CLASSES:

ARIEL - HEALER (she is not physically oriented. she heals and can damage with •Dia, •Diara, •Holy which are light elemental, she is purely magic oriented)

DEON - SAGE (he is also very not physically sound, he uses elemental spells and can summon)

ATHENA - COSMIC (she is purely magic, she has an okay attack below Kara's, but she attacks with Dolls and Tomes so her attacking is much different so she pretty much has no choice but to be magically oriented)

MIXED ORIENTATION:
SEMIYA - (slightly less physically competent than Kara, she can heal and buff and let other allies debuff with a wide range of statuses.)

KARA - MONSTER MAGE (she is physically competent, that doesn't mean she can compete with the physically oriented characters, and she is magically competent and her Monster Magic spells have several different elemental magic abilities which is a good source of magic power in the game)

So I guess there are more physically oriented than magically oriented, but really in a way they all have mixed abilities. The game is going to be built around their class capabilities and what is available to them, where certain characters will be vital for a fight. Some of them may look similar, but they all have traits that obviously separate them.

Characters

Some enemies will have immunity to some of the statuses caused by the skills, but the skills will definitely not be worthless. Some enemies can remove these by themselves, and the states do wear off naturally. Don't worry, I do value my debuff characters :D

Thank you! I tried for variety, I am not sure if that was achieved or not. Haha I love that you noticed Alder and Cypress were a thing (unless i already said that in which case still good job)

Characters

but there is such a HUGE lack of sprites that aren't white

i would love different race characters, but all i can find are Asian to a certain extent and white. :)
