Ruins of Rydos

Not sure where any of the so-called "haters" are, MarkusT.

As far as I can tell, everyone simply pointed out an obvious rip in a commercial game (read: plagiarism) that could actually land ReynardFrost and possibly RMN in legal trouble. That being called out should be and has been appreciated by Reynard, though I don't think removing that screenshot/image was the best course of action; it resulted in the entire fiasco making a bad case for the game and Reynard than the rip already did.

Regarding the rest of the comments, it's all relatively calm banter about game devs making games "for nostalgia" and how that attitude might not necessarily be a good one to have as a game dev. Reynard and Harm obviously disagree in their views but neither really ragged on the other, though I do think Reynard making assumptions of Harm's character was a bad call on his part; one should always strive to debate against the points of discussion, not against one's character.

So... nice trolling and asskissing I guess, my good sir?

P.S. "There", not "their".

Intel discontinuing socketted CPUs

Good news for now I guess, though I'm still skeptical about the whole fiasco. Only time will tell.

What Can I Expect From Here?

Welcome to RMN, as was said by other we're a community composed primarily of hobbyist game devs, so we're somewhat lacking on the player side of things to be frank. If you'd like to contribute something, please do!

Also, is that avatar of yours Lulu from League of Legends?

Commercial Games allowed now; also RMNv4.4 stuff

I welcome the coming of the game archive vault, we really need one. =(

How can I end a survival game and leave the player satisfyed?

author=LockeZ
A good example of a survival game with an ending is Oregon Trail. You are trying to survive, but not for all eternity - only for long enough to reach Oregon. So that's the end goal, right there. Travel through a wasteland is a pretty fitting setting for a survival game, and it makes sense that the goal would be to get out of the wasteland and to some destination. It also creates an extra level of depth in the gameplay: Sometimes you have to make a decision between whether to prioritize your progression or your survival, like spending money on food/clothes vs. spare wagon parts, and choosing to rest or press on when a party member is sick.

That moment when you're one day from Oregon and dysentery gets you.

Help me by a computer

Classic Shell isn't an excuse for Windows 8's horrible idea to remove the start menu, but I digress; this topic isn't about discussing Windows 8 and it's peculiarities. Let's get back to the original subject at hand.

Help me by a computer

I would strongly advise against Windows 8 because of the hardware and software compatibility issues LockeZ already pointed out and the fact Metro is absolutely terrible to use on a desktop, touchscreen or not.

Help me by a computer

If you're feeling confident in your computer hardware knowledge and/or have a friend knowledgable with computers to help you, I too would also suggest actually buying the hardware (and operating system, probably some version of Windows 7) separately and then assembling them yourself. More often than not you'll end up with a much higher quality computer at a slightly lower price tag than if you had bought an equivalent PC off the shelf.

Plus, if you build your own computer you don't have to worry about the bajillions of bloatware that PC manufacturers put on their computers.

Help me by a computer

An All-In-One computer is basically an oversized laptop, all the hardware is fixed in place and you will have an absolutely terrible time modifying or upgrading most of the hardware if it's even possible to do so at all. Plus, if for whatever reason your monitor dies or gets damaged then you can't simply replace it either.

As such, I would really suggest you look into ordinary desktops. Desktops are far more modular, easier and more economical to maintain, and generally have less issues to worry about.

Curious though, are you having an issue with space in your bedroom? Because the only reason I can think you'd grab an All-In-One would be because you simply don't have the space or practical means to place a desktop tower.

Females and Gaming - #1reasonwhy

The original quote was about women not getting into programming even as a hobby.

I see no problem with my answer: "Ever thought about getting into something cool and then looked at the people doing it, realised they were assholes and ended up not getting into it?"

How does this need to be about an occupation? It's realted with the very act of programming. It was just like when I was in a sense prevented from trying Tomb Raider at the time, since the specific Tomb Raider fan base I had contact with (not to generalise) were assholes.

This is just an example, with women it's even worse, sometimes they are even driven away with insults if they even show an interest in programming, if you can't understand that then it's your problem.

Can they still google programming and try it out? Sure, but with so much negative pressure they probably won't, they won't feel any appeal to it, plus there's a lot of other activities that will seem more appealing and where they won't be insulted or expelled if they try to integrate.

You probalby have people you amiably discuss programming with, and it's probably really fun to do it, but if those people ignored you or worse, insulted you, then you may not be so fond of programming. I at least, wouldn't.

They can be directly and indirectly pushed away from programming.

Here's what you originally said again for reference:
Many times women aren't even given a chance to try out programming, so they won't even know it they like it.

The above statement suggests, in a nutshell, that women cannot program, the statement suggests that women are prohibited from opening Notepad and writing code with it. To that suggestion, I call bullshit. Women can open up Notepad at any given time and write code in it, even something as simple as <html></html> would constitute as writing code, and I see absolutely nothing that prevents women from doing this.

Really, you even admitted yourself that women can try programming:
Can they still google programming and try it out? Sure,

Your argument isn't that women can't get a chance to try programming, you're arguing that women might receive a negative image of programming after the fact, and on that regard others like Sailerius have already gone into depth with that angle and I feel reiterating what they've already said won't prove to be that constructive.

Basically, what you meant / wanted to say and how you worded your original statement didn't match up. I took what you said at face value, that "women aren't even given a chance to try out programming", and I answered that that assumption was flawed because the act of programming itself is in fact very accessible. If the result of this exchange was that I misunderstood you it really couldn't be helped given the way the original statement was worded. No hard feelings though, right? ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
