LIBERTY'S PROFILE

I enjoy playing and creating games (mostly RPGs) and have a love of story and characterisation above graphics. I've been into RM* since '96 and have used all makers - started on the PSX makers, found and used a patched version of the SNES RM, then moved to RM95. When I found RM2K I finally decided to join some forums and I've been a part of the community ever since.

Selicia: In Depths of Pa...
The night is darkest before dawn...

I hate when things get over explained..

My rule of thumb - Once in character dialogue, with maybe a reminder if it wasn't too clear or at least in a different colour to the rest of the text, and maybe an NPC who hints where to go/what to do.

People! Read the fucking dialogue! It's an RPG for a reason. Reason is to play a role. How can you know the role you are playing if you do not read the dialogue the characters say? You cannot.

Don't want to read? Don't play RPGs.

...I feel much better now.

How many runes per character are you aiming for? If one it'd be easy enough to use an Equip slot for it, then have a common event check to see if 'X Rune' is equipped, change skills if on, delete them if off.

If more than two then perhaps a custom menu system would be best. There are some tutorials around dealing with them and the skills are basically handled the same way as above. Of course, you'd have to make more pictures for the backgrounds but they can come off as really polished if done well.

Giving Feedback: Pass or Fail

To clarify my own opinions about that list...
Making a checklist for everyone.
- Don't use RTP - well I use RTP for a reason. I prefer it over other styles, though yes I do use others sometimes. I just like RTP better. Hence self-proclaimed RTP Princess. ^.^
- Don't use default font - eh. If you can read it, why not? It's not a huge deal and most of the time people make bad font choices. It feels gimmicky to use a different font. Like, OMG, look! I gots a font!!!! yeah... some games are okay - like 8 bit ones, others... not so much.
- Use music on the title screen - Use music everywhere! Hell, there are only a few times I don't use music and that's when I want to make a peaceful atmosphere but even then I'll have some sort of sound effects.
- Don't have a long introduction. A minute is too long in my opinion. - Again, depends. Some introductions are fine, others not so much. I think the thing is making them interesting.
- Include shinny things when there is something to get somewhere. Hidden items. - You don't need to do this as long as you let the player know that there's something to find if they look in certain places. Even an NPC saying they hid something in a barrel or a book telling you to look out for items hidden in wardrobes and what not is fine.
- Tint screen WORKS BEST with the fade out... then tint... then fade in. - Remember not to over tint! It should be a subtle thing.
- Don't use default battle system. - You can use it, but make it interesting. Don't just have the characters attack endlessly. A buttonmash is not fun.
- Random encounters are bad (and the backbone of RPGs).- Random encounters are bad if you are attacked every damn step. If you've got larger maps, change the rate of encounters and maybe try to jazz it up a bit. Perhaps a system where you can dodge them or an item that gets rid of them.
- Too many villages defeat the purpose of an RPG. - NEVAAR! Villages are the exploration capital of the world! Just make sure to make each different from the other so that it's not like walking through the same old village each time. Give each a theme or gimmick to be based around. Maybe one has a shrine, one's built into the side of a mountain, one's in a swampland, one is a tower village... make it interesting to explore.

I think you've got a good idea with this Creation. Sometimes it's hard for people to distance themselves from their own projects and new eyes see things they may miss. And any advice is good to hear.
That said, don't think one persons' opinion makes or breaks a game. Others may like what you don't and dislike what you do. It's best to take what is offered, see how it stacks up in your own opinion and work off it. Like any advice. Be grateful but judge according to what you want your project to be. Don't disregard just because you don't like it, though. If there's a legitimate complaint, take it into account. That's the best way to go, imo. (Though others may think otherwise. ^.^)

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna finish Dungeon Crawl. Thanks again for trying. ^.^

Thanks a lot Creation. Yes, the graphics were custom (except for the faces). You've given me a few things to think about, especially regarding the information given to the player. I'll definitely go back and edit, add more signs, though just to add that Emile does tell you how to use explosives and the like. I will make it easier to learn about though. Thanks~

EDIT:
>.<
Well, yeah the battles really need balancing. A lot. Again, I need to add a bit more instruction into what to do/where to go, though it's a game mostly aimed at exploration. That said, thanks for trying it out. Again, you've given me a lot to think about.

The music is because of your computer - I'm also not a fan of silence, so you might need to check your speakers or something. Definitely.

Okie then! I humbly request you try out either Dungeon Crawl (which I'm working on) or Incarnation (which has no feedback whatsoever).
Thank you if you actually decide to do one! ^.^

I look forward to your decision.

witch anime did you look forward too?

author=eplipswich
Used to watch Bleach but got bored of it. Now i'm only reading the weekly Bleach manga chapters :/

You poor thing. Telling you now, it doesn't get better. Best to abandon that ship while it's still sinking, mate. ^.^;

witch anime did you look forward too?

Yes. I too looked forward to Witch Anime.

That said, I don't know. Every week I look forward to watching the newest One Piece but I haven't seen any others I'm looking towards watching. Well, there's the new FMA: Brotherhood, I guess, but I think that's already released. Oh and Bakuman. And apparently Psyren will be coming out sometime in the future, so that as well.

Battle system coding has begun!

I think that the unwritten rule of blogs is to have at least a few sentences about what is going on at that time. So you could edit it to say something about the actual battle system - like whether or not it keeps the character commands and if it's set up like the original or not. Then add a line or two about what you're currently doing - messing around with a few scripts, thinking about how to implement such and such, how well the team is getting along and what-not.

As it is, this game has a lot of people keeping an eye out for it and every little tidbit is looked forward to, so a one liner is a pretty big let down. Just keep it in mind for future blog posts, okay?

What to do if your Game Submission is denied.

author=skylin05
So what happens if your submissions were denied and you didn't get a message saying why?
Or is it my submissions were really so bad that they didn't even think to send me a message?

Probably sending a PM to Magi or another staff member telling them the details and asking what you need to do would be the way to go.
