I can't view my Natsume Mito videos anymore. When I try to, I get a message form youtube that states exactly just that. I'm wondering what's going on as stuff from other countries have never been blocked from my region before.
That is curious... You think Sony's up to something with their content?

I've been reading up about it. It seems like it has something to do with the new Youtube RED and Sony Entertainment of Japan deciding to restrict access to their videos to certain countries.

This all sucks because I can't get my eightto-bitto boi and choki-choki on. (Kyary's vids seem to be intact, though) :(
I see... Well, it's not like I had watched a Sony video ever. :P

I guess you're stuck actually purchasing the music you want to listen to. What a cruel fate!

It's not just about the music. It's the music videos that take me on a psychedelic trip.

Where do you even purchase Japanese albums in the West?

EDIT: Also you are confusing videos that have been taken down with those being blocked. These videos exist and are up on Youtube, but because I'm American I can't watch them.

I watch way more Last Week Tonight than The Daily Show because of this

I also download any sort of Youtube video I think I might want to rewatch because of shit like this.

I really don't understand why region-locking exists other than some kind of impulse-driven, tacked-on solution to control what the government allows people see on the net.

I just put "natsume mito buy" into Google and got links to iTunes, also you can buy the CDs, MP3s, and JP DVDs on Amazon. It's really not that hard to get hold of super popular acts these days.

LOL it's generally not the government doing this, it's the companies themselves. It's generally about being able to control prices and access to material so they're most able to get consumer money.

I still don't really get it. In my case, one person is able to watch and listen to the music video for free on youtube just because he/she lives in Japan, but someone who lives outside of that country isn't allowed to view that free content because...?

I'm just not seeing what is being lost by allowing users from outside your country to view your content, unless YouTube in Japan has some kind of weird policies that the USA doesn't have?
There's ways around it. Just do a bit of googling~ ;p

That said, it's not like the people themselves lock it. Some of my youtube videos have been locked out of German audiences automatically for some stupid reason due to the music in them and those who own copyright to that music not allowing them to be shown in Germany. IDEK. We're talking songs from the early 40s here, btw - specifically ones in Fallout 4. :/

The only way I can fix it is to either remove the songs (and thus the actual voice-over as well) or dispute and disputing too much can lead to me losing my channel. Hell, even disputing when in the right doesn't do shit if they refute it - there's one dispute on one of my videos claiming a song to be from x composer (who worked on Soul Calibre X or something) and his company is claiming rights to a background song used in Fallout 4. They aren't in any of the credits - radio or ost! But when I pointed that out, ooooh noooo, didn't get a listen in, despite pointing out the real composer. Fucking bullshit. :\

I actually wouldn't care at all but they're now allowed to put ads up on my channel because of this shit - I don't put ads on my channel. It's fucked up. >:|

It's not YT's choice: it's Sony's. The division of Sony in whatever country you are in seems to believe that restricting your access will cause you to spend money, or possibly just keep other people from getting ad money that they want. These things are generally an entirely capitalistic choice, not one based around ideals or whatev.

Yeah, I've been dealing with stuff I like getting taken off of YouTube for years, to the point where I try to get a copy on my hard-drive if it's something I really want to watch repeatedly. Hopefully you can find that video elsewhere or find another solution.

Well, if it helps, Youtube's looking into fixing the copyright system:

http://kotaku.com/youtubes-finally-starting-to-change-their-disastrous-co-1743518771

Though I'm not sure if that pertains to Ratty's situation, since it sounds like less a copyright issue and more a region banning one.
