On the video URL, add "ss" (without the quotes) right after the "www." (also no quotes) and you'll be taken to a download page where you can download the video.

So that's cool.
those sites tend to disappear in short order and/or become overburdened with monetization to the point where it is unusable.

But yes, use it while you can! then find the next one!
I just use a plugin with Firefox nowadays. If there's a cool video I want to always have available or youtube is being shit again it's as easy as hitting download MP4 720p or so. Super easy stuff and most MP4s works great on my DLNA server. Older videos only come in FLV but I can throw those into handbrake and convert those to MP4. Other sites may need some fancy website service but those are rare.
I just use Youtube Downloader. Was dead useful a while ago when a rather well-known Fire Emblem hacker took her videos down, but I still had quite a number of them.
...I just watch the damn videos. If I don't have time, I add them to my watchlist for when I do. Then again, I don't have alternative media to watch them on so...

If you happen to be going to a place with spotty or non-existent internet connection, this sort of thing would be helpful.

Some people have super slow internet and it would take literally 20 minutes to load a 7 minute video (my old college was like that), so downloading a video while you're away from the computer to come back and watch later would be awesome.

Personally, I haven't found a major use for it yet where I'm at now, but it's an interesting feature to remember in case I ever do need it.

That, and if you don't want to worry about a video you like getting taken down, as Luchino mentioned ^_^
I use Ant Video toolbar. One use is for music. You can download the music video and convert it to mp3 to add it to your music library.
