The dream sequence ties the game back to the beginning of how it all started. You certainly could have just skipped the dream sequence if you wanted to. Just because there is a sequel doesn't mean you have to read it. If you disliked the story, then it's better that way you don't. The game stands alone just fine and the sequel is made if you liked the story as a whole and wanted more.

The puzzle was Capricorn (the slaughterer/there was a note for this), Aeris (ram!), Gemini (middle of the sky, again was a note for this), Libra (scales), Virgo (maiden).

I do agree the respawning enemies was a bit much and have definitely taken that into account for future projects.

For the Hiante problem, I figured in my head that in some magic way because a wizard did it, he survives because of his own determination at that point and partly because of Astra's magic now. Clearly she doesn't want him gone so subconsciously she and even Erio would have been giving him magic to keep going (but yeah, it's something I generally forgot about so lol)

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the battles, but I suppose it's not for everyone. I do agree the astrology puzzle I should have done better (though I did place hints in the Original King's bookcase as far as I recall). I didn't find the game dragged out (there is maybe one part I would say I should have done better with the finding the boat in the cave and the OK's tower, but that's something I'll have to keep in mind for a next game. Certainly can't please everyone.

Q spoilers

Hiante's wife and daughter are dead now for sure, but they probably made it off the island (I think Hiante suggests as much) and lived their life elsewhere. A working theory in my head was that Astra actually is related to Hiante by being a distant grand daughter but I never went anywhere with the idea.

Although I'm sad you did not enjoy the game, thank you for giving it a try. :D Definitely not for everyone!

Star Stealing Prince Review

but not that it copied that game

If he said that I would have asked him to look at when the games were released in relation to each other (mine was first, hence the initial confusion--I don't really see many reviews comparing an older game to a newer one (granted they are both old, but SSP is one year older)). I just found it odd because my game was released first and that one after and I usually don't hear of reviews comparing a game made in 2012 for example to something made after it in 2013. Usually it's the 2013 game being compared to the older one. So that's on me. I find it odd but again, you write however you want to write. For me, I wouldn't review something and compare it to Free Spirits because they both happened to have some kind of ghosts. But that's just me and just semantics at that point.

Yeah I didn't mean it like "OMG WHY DID YOU GIVE IT THIS SCORE", I was just having issues discerning the reason from the review provided. Cause essentially the review went from talking about the Cornet, explaining some mechanic bits, talking about the bosses and what they would personally do with bosses, then a small description on the story without really telling what was or wasn't to their liking and what influenced the score.

It's cool though. I'm glad people are still finding Star Stealing Prince and playing it. Though it makes me feel old now.

Unfortunately, Aqua, as of this time there probably won't be a Chapter 2. I made a post a few pages back about why me and Diedrupo decided to move on. Apologies in advance. Short version: the game was too ambitious and things happened, we put it down for a while, and we don't have the drive to return. Unfortunately, that happens. It was a free game, and Diedrupo and I are glad that people enjoyed what we managed to put together.

You say it's hard to kill bosses without upgraded equipment so the intention was that you upgrade your equipment! You can do things after you finish off Captain Colorous if I remember correctly but it's been a long time. As for the Jar boss, try using a Flute and using the skills from it.

Star Stealing Prince Review

If you don't get the cornet or the mask at the start, you find them in the town after the first boss. IP really means Item Points but Injury Points works, I suppose. One thing I would do if I went back to redo the game is to adjust the bosses a bit more. I'm not a fan of how constricted RPG Maker is when trying to make a unique boss (I'm learning this more and more as I'm making a new game and if I tried this in SSP I would have frustrated myself out of making a game at all.) and I feel that definitely shows in SSP because it largely falls more into RNG than I would like, but c'est la vie at this point.

I'm confused why you compare it to a game that came out after my game did (wouldn't it be the other way around? :P), but it's your review I suppose. I think it would be better to compare it to a game that came out at around the same time as my game did. The whole "magic-as-science" comment confuses me as well since I didn't think I made any connections with science and magic. It was supposed to be structured similar to a fairy tale, so I'm just confused.

I also am having trouble figuring out why it's 3.5/5. You say "but the star-score I'm giving it on here is in context of the type of games posted on rpgmaker.net. " but that doesn't make sense? I mean sure, you didn't like the bosses and that's fine, but is that what the star score is based on or?

Thank you for the review.

It's completely random. A suggestion is increase your friendship with Horton as he has some events that give you free battles with elite monsters. Otherwise if you're having too much trouble, abandon the quest and see if you can find an easier to find elite the following day.

I didn't do the stat balancing but I'm told it affects some skills (maybe daggers). Sorry it's been a long time since either dev has even looked at this game so we don't know what all everything does anymore.

Also you would THINK having the groundwork be done would make it easier but really the brunt of the work is in what you mentioned and when you don't have the energy to come back, you don't. If we ever do come back to do more with this, we'll definitely let everyone know. I just don't want anyone to get their hopes up.

I'm glad you found it! I hope you enjoy yourself!

Aww, thank you gothicmiriel! I'm glad you think so. I hope you continue to enjoy the visuals and have a good time playing the game. :D
