..:: Issue #23 ::..

How are things going? What are you up to these days? Are you still active?

Remember how I made the RMN resolution to "Engage in conversations; embrace change; give feedback; treat people well; give credit; show interest; develop strengths; identify weaknesses; focus on new members; add more knowledge; keep members informed."? A big part of that is increasing my engagement with the community. So let's engage some more. Consider this a "State of the Union" address, but without the gravitas.

I will just post a summary of the major-ish events that happened this past quarter, provide some thoughts on RMN, give a little editorial (like I used to do on the SNEWS, for those of you old enough to remember the SNEWS), and give a glimpse into the goings-on behind the curtain of the SUPER SECRET SECRET NINJA HIDEOUT.

(I actually have butterflies in my stomach as I am about to post this. How weird is that? You'd think I'd be used to publicly speaking on RMN by now)

Server move
Ankylo completed the server move and it went swimmingly! The new server is slick and fast. The old server at Alnitech was decommissioned. I am very pleased with how smoothly it all went, and the results so far. However, afterwards, I noticed that the CSS for our events was missing, and is now forever lost :< So if you browse old events and wonder why they all look as basic as Ugg Boots and a chai latte, that's why.

Deckiller
...has posted a few times! Welcome (sorta) back! Take care of yourself, buddy.

Ads
I tried a replacement out and it SUCKED BAD. But I have implemeted SwitchAds, and it works pretty good. But I still don't have something that I can use as a backup to GoogleAds if we ever get denied due to a policy violation (which has happened in the past! Google Adsense are sticklers for the dumbest things). You might have noticed (if you ever came to RMN without logging in, or don't use an Adblock, or are not a donor) that we used to have some Game-Advertising-Online (GAO) ads on the frontpage that are now gone. That's because GAO closed up shop. They were my backup plan for if Google suspended us. I currently don't have a backup now.

RMN Store
The RMN Store (remember that?) is mostly dead. (For those of you not in the know, RMN and Degica had entered a partnership in October 2013 to create a new online store focusing on RPG Maker games but open to any indie title). The work on the store has stagnated since roughly May 2014. This happened primarily because, one, Deckiller was our main guy for this and he went MIA (for valid reasons! he didn't just bail) and two, because Degica got in on Steam and (understandably) this is much more lucrative and timeconsuming than a little store on RMN. The contract with Degica officially runs out in October 2015, in any event.

I apologize to anyone who was looking forward to this or even counted on this as a potential revenue stream.

We still have our little store, and I hope to expand on that. If after October this year nothing moves on the Degica/RMN partnership front, I will look at implementing our own independent storefront (if there is still interest).

Server Funds
RMN is currently sitting in the mid-600s. We took a little hit as we had to pay for two servers for a month or two. Donations are steady, though, and I have a slush fund sitting on stand-by if we ever dip too low.

2015 calendar/brainstorming

Befuddle Quest 7 is currently underway. If you wanted to make a puzzle for this prestigious event, do so now! Submissions close April 30th.

I have my ongoing Second Saturday Scores event, where I track makerscore month-to-month and recognize and reward top contributors. New this month will be the ineligibility of the RMN Community Chest (and its 1000ms) to determine winners.

Liberty and Nessiah have been consistently releasing monthly podcasts, which is awesome.

The return of Release Something was a success! We'll have to do another one sometime! There are no firm plans.

I am looking at running another MOG event (the event focusing on making custom resources). I am eyeballing June though September for this.

June is also RMN's 8th birthday (of its reincarnation in 2007). We might do something to celebrate it.

Battledome was awesome (those damn Angry Carrots! *shakes fist), Maps Weekly is a neat initiative, RMN pixel quilt logo edition is nearing completion, Mischief List Makers was fun, Strawberry Review Jam was a good jam, and McBacon Jam was also tasty! And how 'bout dem Misaos?

RMN merch
Libby's gag topic is still generating interest. One day...one day we may have RMN merch for the 4 of you who would actually buy it...

The huge backlog of RMN v4.5 updates
My big failing RMN-wise of 2014 was not working on the codebase. Gotta do that in 2015. I just wish I could connect to the Webmin panel or Git repo from work. But I am just using that as an excuse... I could totally be working on code.

That being said, ankylo is really pushing me on this front! And publicly stating my shame will motivate me to work on it.

Society's move to a more mobile environment, and RMN's strictly desktop (and 99% Windows) target is a concern. ankylo is hard at work at integrating a web-based Unity game player, and I am researching Responsive Web Design with Yellow Magic.

The first step for getting v4.5 back on track will be compiling and reevaluating the requests for changes (both from myself, ankylo, the staff, and the greater community). I am starting that today and next week.

MY PERSONAL NOTES ON 2014 ::..

Goodbye 2014! Welcome to 2015!
The Japanese learning continuum of "Show Them, Tell Them, Let Them Do It, and Praise Them." They are part of an even bigger learning system. That is Kaizen, which has the equivalent American translation of "Change-Better."

I made the RMN resolution to "Engage in conversations; embrace change; give feedback; treat people well; give credit; show interest; develop strengths; identify weaknesses; focus on new members; add more knowledge; keep members informed.", and a big part of that is increasing my engagement with my core staff and the community as a whole.

The year 2014, personally, was just a really shitty year for me. I griped about it in some thread or another on RMN, but just so that you are aware, 2014 was just a down year, and I am glad it is over. The shityiness of the past year contributed a lot to my declining leadership and lack of progress on RMN's functionality/scope. Not that I am making excuses (lies; I am totally making excuses), but I should have done better. I will change for the better this year.

Things I regret:
-not finishing a game in 2014, even though I started several
-not finishing my custom resources - though I got a decent amount done
-not working on RMN's codebase, despite having time to do so.
-the RMN store dying

Things I am concerned about:
-my decreasing motivation overall; I fear it will affect RMN detrimentally
-society's move to a more mobile environment, and RMN's strictly desktop (and 99% Windows) target
-Deckiller's disappearance
-the lack of communication from Degica, or RMWeb in general - we've grown apart as their Steam initiative picks up steam
-responsive web design, and our distinct lack of it
-my lack of web development expertise
-libby being stretched thin

Things I am pleasantly surprised with/satisfied:
-the frontpage (finally!) - I am actually liking it and am more or less happy with. Which means I MUST CHANGE IT.
-Liberty stepping up her game
-believe it or not, the more creative, motivated, and pleasant community RMN has developed over the past year and a half. There really seems to be a more upbeat vibe from RMN members these days imho.
-ankylo's awesome work with the server move

Personal Resolution stuff
Engage in conversations; embrace change; give feedback; treat people well; give credit; show interest; develop strengths; identify weaknesses; focus on new members; add more knowledge; keep members informed.

Engage in conversations:
-no better way to get more involved in the community than to participate in the discussions on the forums, or on the gameprofiles.

Embrace Change:
-I've grown more cynical and jaded, and distanced myself a bit from RMN. This is both due to increasing time pressures from other areas of my life, and just a growing disinterest in game making. So I got to soften that cynicism a bit.
-seek to build a culture of innovation and creativity on RMN as a whole. Initiatives here are welcome!

Give feedback:
-this is both a component of engagement AND a promise to talk to my staff more. This topic is an effort to give feedback on RMN, actually!

Treat people well:
-ease up on my assholeness

Give credit:
-be more appreciative

Show interest:
-genuine

develop strengths; identify weaknesses;
-just to keep in mind that I need to continually improve, keeping old skills sharp and challenging myself in new ways

Focus on new members:
-grow the community

Add more knowledge:
-specifically I want to impart some of my knowledge by writing some articles.

Keep members informed:
-SNEWS? SRADIO? Probably should do a monthly or quarterly address to the site. SO HERE IT IS.

Remember these? Neither do I.

In the past SNEWS I would have a spotlight on a cool (or uncool) member of RMN that I picked to "interview" with some lowkey questions. Since this SNEWS is a complete spur of the moment thing I decided to do TODAY, I have no one and nothing prepared. So INSTEAD I am going to ask you some focal point (wtf does "focal point" mean? Like hell if I know, but my work uses the term for the year-end reviews, so I am using it too) questions, as a variation of the questions I asked my RMN staff earlier this year. Feel free to post your responses!

1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)
2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?
3. What is your current role at RMN?
4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?
5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?
6. What are you expecting from me?
7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)
8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?
9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?
10. Is there anything you wish to say?

I always have an open inbox. Shoot me a line if you ever want to chat.

In keeping with the haphazard style of the SNEWS, if any of the other staff or contributors want to update the site on their activities and plans, please do so!

Thanks Liberty for stepping up her game and devoting so much time to RMN! She acts as manager, deals with game and non-review/article submissions, leads events, and provides leadership.

Thanks ankylo for all the work done in finding a new host, doing the dry-runs, managing the dev environment, and doing the full server move. RMN would be dead without you.

Yeah, same here!
Wow! A new RMN Snews? I totally forgot those used to exist! I'm glad to see that maybe a little bit of motivation is returning to you, kentona! :D

Answered the questionnaire just for funsies. Don't...expect any useful feedback or anything.
1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)
The immediate goal is to finish my BQVII map. I've made a lot of progress on it but there's still a lot to do. Hopefully I'll finish it next week sometime. In real life, I'm in the process of preparing to move away from my hometown. Pretty anxious yet excited about that.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?
Just this one, pretty much, and even here I'm not near as involved as I'd like to be.

3. What is your current role at RMN?
Relatively unknown lurker who sometimes posts once in a blue moon! I've been here for a long time though, and would like to get more involved.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?
Not at all!

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?
Nope! Working on it, though.

6. What are you expecting from me?
Hero's Realm 2

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)
Nothing I can think of. It'd be nice if it had a more mobile friendly layout of course, but it sounds like your working on that already.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?
Hahaha no.

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?
Hard to say, but this is my favorite place on the internet pretty much so I'd say awhile? Even if it's just lurking. :P

10. Is there anything you wish to say?
Uh, I'd just like to point out how AWESOME the RMN staff is!

Ahh, kentona, this is cool! I know you've been busy as hell and it's hard to not just get overwhelmed with stress and real life stuff and that sort of thing will totally destroy your desire to make games. And you're trying to run a website on top of that, y'know? It's crazy and super impressive that you've done what you have. I can't speak for anyone else but I appreciate you doing what you do - and all the fantastic staff, as well :D

As far as the store goes, I guess I'm not too surprised at the result. Steam has very much opened its doors recently, and it's hard to compete with them. I think it's okay, I like RMN's status as a place to get started and work through prototypes or small games or just hobby stuff. There's plenty of places out there already where people can vie for cash, but there's not too many game dev communities with people I actually wanna talk to!

I answered the questions!

1. What is your personal TODO list?

Too many things, but "finish a game again" is up there. My last one was for the IGMC! Too long ago! As far as personal life goes, I'd like to find more time to exercise and maybe even go on some dates XD

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

None, really. I come here to shoot the breeze with devs here because ya'll are a very friendly crowd! I probably will join some other sites to submit games in the future, but I don't know if I'll branch out socially.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Game maker, poster of goofy things. Occasionally I'll do something helpful by providing criticism or posting an article or review.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Nah, I'd like to help more if I can. Either posting some tutorials, reviews, or just being more active about posting helpful stuff.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

As far as RMN goes, yea! I just wish I had more free time, but don't we all?

6. What are you expecting from me?

Crisis management and dry wit. I think you're doing a pretty good job :D If anything, I'm sure it'd be nice to have more staff to run events and things like that. The fact that you and Liberty (and everyone else who helps) run as many as you do is really impressive.

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

Hmm... I don't know! Well, I don't wanna see you or Liberty burn out, but I know that sometimes interests just fade, and guilting you into it when you're truly uninterested won't end well, either. Maybe you could spread the workload a bit? I don't know though, maybe adding more staff would lead to a need for more management work, though.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

Oh god. Uh, as many people as I could who are actually interested? Liberty and ankylo seem to do great! I can think of some names of people who have the right attitude to help, but they're busy with their own thing and who knows if they'd want to. Like I said, guilting people who aren't motivated doesn't usually end well XD

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

As long as there's kind and fun people here to talk to about making games (or just life!), I'll be here. Unless I get jaded and quit making games altogether. Hell, I've never even made an RM game and I post here every day :P

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

Keep on keepin' on :D And lemme know if you need help with stuff and I'll do what I can! That goes for everyone else, too. I like this place.

Oh god, I typed a lot ;-_-
RMN Snews, wow, that takes me back. Glad to hear that the server fund is still doing well.

Questions:

1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)

The list is so very long. I cannot turn off my brain so there is always an endless list of things to do, but for the immediate future its "Improve 2D Art Skills, Learn Animation, Improve 3D Art Skills, Start up my company, and finish Gam Mak College".

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

None. This the only RM community I give two fucks about.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Being a disagreeable fuck up that barely contributes anything but complains about everything. My role is to be the voice nobody wants to hear but has to because kentona allowed me back on the site.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Yeah I guess. I wish I had some more finished/ongoing interesting projects or something, or could get involved with more events since a lot don't suit me. I've been trying to get in on whatever I can though.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

Yes. I reached peace with myself over my own skillset and now I practice pretty free of self doubt or unrealistic expectation. It's pretty good.

6. What are you expecting from me?

Well, more Snews now that this has happened.

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about?(functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

Nothing really. RMN is the best it's ever been. No shmup, no NicoB... It's like a paradise compared to what it used to be.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

I would probably ban rips and run the site into the ground as fast as possible because holy shit I am bad at wielding power.

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

Until it goes under most likely (although tbh if I had the capability when that was about to happen I'd probably buy it out or something. Idk. But there's no reason to not continue using RMN to advertise any future "true indie" stuff I'm involved in, because it takes 5 minutes to make a game page and it's fucking free advertising and discussion space. I'd have to be a moron to abandon it.

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

Forever's End is shit

Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D

Cool, interview time!

1. What is your personal TODO list?

1) Don't die.
2) Get a game onto New and Notable.
3) Get another game featured and/or spotlighted.
4) Improve my art skills.
5) Improve my mapping skills
6) Write more articles.
7) Get more games into the commercial scene.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

I joined RMW and Game Jolt, but I have a hard time being social on those other places. Nothing against them, of course. I'm just the kind of person that would rather make stronger bonds with fewer people than weaker bonds with many people.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Game maker, part time writer, and full time idiot.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Actually, no I'm not. Despite having a RMN tab up 24/7, I feel like I don't do enough around here.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

I'm honestly not sure. I'm in a constant debate on between whether my expectations are set too high or if I'm not confident enough in myself.

6. What are you expecting from me?

To be as forward and honest as possible with us. If RMN is hurting for something, let us know. If we're doing well, let us know.

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

Nothing that I can think of. Seriously. There's not a single thing on this site I would change.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

Recruit Liberty and Ankylo because holy hell they are a two person army. I would also bring in unity because of her amazing work ethic.

As for what I'd do? Well... I'd probably be a kentona impersonator. Refer to previous answer to understand why I'd do exactly what kentona's currently doing.

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

As long as I possibly can.

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

I like this place. I like this place a lot.

1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)
I want to get excited about game making again. I get bored soon after starting.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?
None.

3. What is your current role at RMN?
Lurker mostly.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?
Meh.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?
Not sure how to answer that. Yes but I'm lazy?

6. What are you expecting from me?
Not much actually. (that's a good thing)

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)
It's getting a little too social media but I guess that's the new norm. I don't like change.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?
I wouldn't be so crazy as to run a website for other people.

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)

Get fit. Not sure how to say it, but I'd say "become a sorcerer", except I already am, and really just looking to improve. However, being a sorcerer is actually a pursuit and not a position, much like the Philosopher's Stone, or the stars. Success is measured by the journey, not reaching the goal.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

Kind of active in GameJolt, thanks to Yuna21Luchino. Occasionally am on RMW, but this place is more welcoming so I spend most of my time here.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Agitator and general pest. Occasional reviewer, and budding gam mak-er.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Yes, I try to contribute regularly and have found that I am mostly successful at doing so. The makerscore has pleased me.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

Yes. I feel that much of what I've already done in gam mak wouldn't have come to be had it not been for the encouraging aura of RMN.

6. What are you expecting from me?

Keep being awesome...and I'm expecting you to eventually announce your plans for world domination.

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

Aside from being addictive?

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

I'd probably implement more mobile features and set up a system whereby people can offer downloads for multiple platforms without having to do any extraneous work on their own part. As for recruiting, I'd keep the ones who are already here, promote Liberty and ankylo, if there's room, and I'd probably recruit Unity because of her mad skilz and Sooz because of her awesome art. I think Sooz could really gussy up the place. Don't get me wrong; the minimalist look is probably best, but I'm sure Sooz would come up with something totally awesome.

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

Like Pizza, til the end and if the end comes, probably buy it and make it go on.

I was about to comment on that SRADIO post, thinking it was a recent one. Then I realized all the replies were from 2010.

1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)
* Complete my final year of uni with mostly A's and B's
* Complete Account Mu
* Create a story-heavy slice-of-life IGMC Entry
* Create (at least) 15mins of gameplay for Photometric
* Create my church's website
* Finish writing the screenplay for my planned short film Laodicea by May 1st, or more realistically June 1st
* Get a full-time job at the end of the year
* Keep going with my 5-days-a-week workout routine that I started in January until the end of the year
* Work on disciplining myself to do what I need to do, instead of what I want to do
2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?
Only RMW. Unless you count the IRC, and my RM friends on Skype.
3. What is your current role at RMN?
Sporadically productive game maker and review writer. I try to help out, but mostly I'm just naïve.
4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?
Yes, and I love it. People are beginning to ask me to help them out, and I'm more than glad. I just want to help people create their stuff, so feel free to pick me out as a tester and so on. Perhaps I even say "yes" to too many things. I'm a bit like Liberty in that way, except I get less done. But, overall I will try to fulfil your desires.
5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?
I am empowered when I learn to do something instead of doing nothing. Overall, I have been too lazy and I am learning to discipline myself. I don't want to say "I am lazy" and "I have no discipline" because that would spell defeat for me. I want to say that my laziness is actively being worked on, otherwise I will resign to it. I definitely have a better work ethic than before, but there is still a lot of room to improve.
6. What are you expecting from me?
I expect you to relax, and pretty much realize that you're doing a good job. You have a family and you manage a website. A good website, by the way. And you do it well. It's good to have those resolutions you've pointed out. That's probably part of the reason why you do such a good job here. But I also want you to know that your work does not go unnoticed. We appreciate that you set up events for us and help us become better game makers and more fulfilled people. And we're grateful for the work you've put into it.
7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)
I can't think of anything, things are pretty sweet around here.
8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?
I'd try to keep up the standard of what's been going on lately. Lots of neat events (perhaps too many for us all to be involved in, but nonetheless more is better, right?) and just try to keep this site as pleasing to everyone as possible. If I were to recruit anyone new - which I might not, but if I were to - I'd look for people who are incredibly consistent, hard-working and produce a lot of content that indicates they have more discipline than I do. Also, a bonus would be to have a regular temperament that enables them to resolve conflict tactfully. I don't want to start naming names, but I think most people know who these guys are.

They're the heroes that RMN deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt them. Because they can take it. Because they're not our heroes. They're silent guardians. Watchful protectors. They're the dark knights.
9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?
As long as it's alive, I think. I might become less active, but I suppose I will continue to visit this site at least periodically, even if my interests change.
10. Is there anything you wish to say?
Thanks for not banning me.

I'll take a crack at these questions before my trip starts ^_^

1. What is your personal TODO list?

-Finish the next update for Wyrm Warriors.
-Finish more Iniquity and Vindication graphics.
-Finish Luxaren Allure (and hopefully have it out by the end of this year)
-Work on a certain project with a certain RMN member if they still want to. You know who you are, I hope ;)

*Farther in the Future list*
-Make Gamepage for Sci-Fi game (still unnamed).
-Make Gamepage and playable demo for Lilies of Vanigale.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

I'm on RMW and GameJolt, but my activity on those two is only commission-talk on the former and putting up a download for Luxaren Allure on the latter ^^;; I'm really only super-active here.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

I make games, talk a heck of a lot, am silly, and try not to get too serious on issues that are not game-related (sometimes I fail >.<;;)

Thanks to Wyrm Warriors, I've taken the role as the lead in a community game. I'm sad to say that I've learned that this isn't the best role for me, and it's really hard to keep motivated, though I'm going to keep working at it.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Yep! I maybe should talk a little less and game make more, but I'm already getting a lot done, so I'm not too worried.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

Yes and no. When I first joined the site, after I had gotten my first game demo out, I felt like I could do anything, and could volunteer to help everyone. That was dumb and naive. I'm now learning that while it's fun to help people and that I certainly can do stuff for others, that it's probably best to be a little selfish and work on my own stuff a good deal of the time ^^;;;;

6. What are you expecting from me?

You have been awesome, and I've been impressed with how you run the site from day 1. I'm sad to hear that you've been losing interest in game making. I hope something rekindles that spark! If not, you'll always be that cool dude who keeps RMN alive!

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

Really, everything's terrific here. The worst that happens is some contests have their prizes given really late and/or don't deliver 100% of what was promised, but that's honestly not a big deal at all as long as the participants get their prizes and everyone's happy. This is a fantastic community and I'm constantly surprised by the volume of events the staff runs and how hard-working everyone is ^_^

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

PANIC!!!! Um, er, I mean, band together anyone willing to help with any sort of expertise and PANIC!!! I mean, figure out how to run the site.

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

As long as I'm interested in making games, in which case, forever? I dunno, realistically, I suppose I could burn out and not want to make games for a period of time, but I'd probably still be playing games here? And I don't see a burn-out like that lasting for too long.

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

I love all of you, and I apologize if I've let anyone down here, as like I said earlier I got a bit crazy with trying to help everyone. I still have a lot to learn about working with others and making games in general, so I appreciate everyone being so kind. ^_^ I couldn't have done half the stuff I have finished if it weren't for such a supportive and awesome community!

What is your personal TODO list?
Immedate goals:
-Complete Konae's Investigations
-Complete Oracle of Asigaga

For later on:
-Hunt down my teammates for Myriad Cypher
-Tactical science fiction game with mechs?
-POSSIBLE SECRET GAME!?

Distant goals:
-Have a game featured

How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?
I have an account with RMW, but, I'm mostly inactive there. There were a few thoughts of going to GameJolt, but, so far, that thought hasn't gotten very far.

What is your current role at RMN?
I guess my main role is to check the Help Me! forum, seeing if my knowledge can be of any use to anybody. Mostly, this comes in the form of the description thread. Though, I do make games and write reviews every so often because Makerscore is life.

Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?
I'm generally happy if I can actually help somebody.

Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?
The only thing I would have questions about is scripting, and I've recently done my own research with that.

What are you expecting from me?
To keep running the site, and generally continuing to be awesome?

What aspects of RMN are you dissatisfied with or concerned about?
I sometimes think that, in regards to events, there could be more staff on the submission queue? I dunno, it just seems like events are a lot busier with all the games coming in, but, I don't really know.

If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?
I would probably feel inclined to get more involved with the community. Get on the IRC channel, visit more gamepages and/or forums, stuff like that. As for who I would recruit, ankylo, Liberty, and GreatRedSpirit would be at the top of my list. If Solitayre isn't willing to keep his job, I'd probably look to nhubi.

How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?
As long as humanly possible!

Is there anything you wish to say?
I, uh, guess I wouldn't mind being a judge for an event again?
One day...one day we may have RMN merch for the 4 of you who would actually buy it...

Hey, I’m sure that there’s more of us out there that would go out of their way to buy an RMN t-shirt…or perhaps some RMN underwear… :|

- But this definitely is a pleasant surprise! I used to remember these articles that you posted up years ago! It was always a nice reminder about what the heck was going on back in RMN back in the day, so I’m glad that you decided to write another one of these for ol’ time sakes, considering your busy schedule and all.

This is awesome. We have the return of regular, monthly podcasts from Liberty and Nessy and the return of Snews! What else could you possibly want!? (Well, besides a Hero’s Realm 2.)

And don’t beat yourself up too much about last year; that’s all in the past. Just focus on having a better 2015. Besides, I know that the staff here works rather hard and I can’t expect all you guys to do this and that all the time while still keeping a job, sanity, a social life or a family. I’m just happy that you guys take the time out of your busy schedule to do whatever you do to keep RMN still running and thriving, especially Liberty as of late. (Damn girl’s on crack overdrive.)

And, oooo – questions:

1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)

Well I definitely wanna finish patching up Monopoly/Monopolo and re-release it on RMN sometime this year and move on to work on something else, like finishing up Brian Okam’s Free Throw Challenge or work on one of my other projects. Other than that, I love to maybe join a men’s recreational sports team in the summer, like for soccer or basketball, and just meet some new people and have some more fun outside of home and work. I mean, I’ve been practicing and playing mostly by myself for so long…might as well see if I’m good enough against someone else that’s just as equally skilled.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

This is the only one. I like to keep it simple with myself and just mostly stick to just one community so it’s easier on me to contribute to the site or get to know everyone better and still have enough time to focus on working on my stuff when I get home and have a decent social life and kick back and relax once in a while.

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Mostly reviewer and article writer as of now, but I’m hoping to change that with the release of some of my games that I’ve been working on for seemingly forever in the future.

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

I’d say yes. I mean, I definitely have been slipping a little bit in terms of posting or submitting anything like reviews or articles as of late, but I’m generally happy with my overall participation level. I mean, I guess I could do a little bit more around here, but baby steps, I guess.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

If I could only get over my overzealous perfectionistic personal goals and just relax a little and have a bit more fun and not take things too seriously, like I used to do years ago, I could definitely get a lot more done, especially in regards to game making. I just can’t seem to get over this silly fear when I really should just relax and have fun like everyone else. It’s been a bit better as of late, but it’s really hard sometimes. It’s like I don’t want to do poorly but I also don’t want to fail. It’s really annoying.

6. What are you expecting from me?

…Cookies? (I could use some freshly baked home-made cookies.)

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

I think RMN is better than it’s ever been in years, and I really wouldn’t change a thing.

(Although that Addit person is starting to get on my nerves.)

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

Me…? Run RMN…?

(I think WIP would probably shoot himself if that happened.)

Ahhhhh…wow… I actually really wouldn’t know what I would do other than just trying to keep things the old status quo and just keep and an eye out on any possible suggestions, staff morale and site duties, annoying bots / troublemakers and just make it look like I’m actually doing something constructive behind the scenes when I’m actually really not. You know, like what WIP did. :D

(I kid, I kid…)

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

- Until hell freezes over!

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

Meep.
1. What is your personal TODO list? (projects, initiatives, even personal life stuff like 'get a job' or 'finish school' or 'get fit' if you want to share that)

Get an eventual salary increase from work ( I'm working my fingers to the bone >< ), get some Misaos. XD And release a demo for Tristy sometime around May. And finish it, of course.

2. How many other RM or dev communities are you active in?

None. I abandoned RMW more than a year ago. It just isn't the same anymore ( for me, anyway ).

3. What is your current role at RMN?

Mapper Extra-ordinaire. I kid, I kid. Blindmind is much better than me. XD

4. Are you satisfied with your current participation on RMN?

Nope. I feel terrible about not being able to comment properly on so many game pages because 99.9% of them are made with VXAce. ;_; And Ace hates 32-bit OSs... and I really want to help out with level design and stuff, but thanks to Ace refusing to co-operate with me, it's not going to happen until I get a new PC.

5. Do you feel you are empowered to accomplish what you want to accomplish?

Oh yes. Even if it does come with an arthritic hand after all that pixel work.

6. What are you expecting from me?

Give me a user title. XD

7. What aspects of RMN are you disatisfied with or concerned about? (functionality, trends, certain members, leadership, etc...)

None that I'm aware of. This site is completely different to what is was like circa 2009-2010 ( good gawd, all the drama, I lurked a lot back then ) thanks to HRH King Kentona taking over.

8. If you were running RMN, what would you do? Who would you recruit to help you?

I have absolutely no idea how to run a website, so... next question!

9. How long do you think you will be with RMN (in any capacity)?

Depends on how long RMN lasts. >:D

10. Is there anything you wish to say?

I would have more makerscore if I did things.
