Since RMN has made the jump over to Slack a conversation client for groups and businesses I decided since the only member I know that have used it previously is Nessy so this article will contain some of the stuff you need to know to use this new system!

Getting started and into the RMN slack channel.

Joining the RMN slack channel is extremely simple just go to https://rmnslack.herokuapp.com/ to invite yourself to the group using your email! After that accessing Slack really depends on how you want to, there are multiple versions of slack which you can use across a variety of platforms including in browser, desktop, and smartphone applications. After you are using whatever version of slack you wish when asked to sign into a slack channel type in “rpgmakernet” and enter the information you provided while signing up!

You can download the various versions of Slack here!

Using slack

Now that you’ve joined the RMN slack channel lets go over some of the cool things you can do!

Accessing channels
When you first join Slack you won’t be in any channels to change that start by clicking one of the channels on the left hand side or click the more channels text to see other channels!

Channels will be set up for events and other RMN stuff so it’s a good idea to check it out everyone once in a while to see what’s going on!
If you’ve found a channel you like or want to not have to look for simply favorite it by clicking the star next to its name

In channels you can chat as you normally would but there are also some cool extras with slack listed below!
• Paste and send a message url to have to show up in the chat!
• Paste a youtube link and the video will appear in the chat!
• Standard emoji and custom rmn slack emoji (click on the # to jump over to the custom emoji)!

• Bookmark useful (and funny) messages and then view them by clicking on the star in the upper right hand corner!

Using Direct Messages
In addition to sending PM over on the rmn website if the user you want to message uses slack you can message them on there for a more IM like messaging system! To message someone simply click the user’s name on the left hand side or click the plus button to search or view more names!

Creating A Private Group
Private groups are great for people working on a game together and they’re simple to make, these private groups only allow their members (and admins) to see their contents. To set one up for your rmn buddies just click the plus icon and fill in the forms to create the group, after that it will create a group for the members you invited just like a channel.

After creating the group you can set things like the purpose of the group and invite other members by clicking the info icon and expanding the “About This Group” tab

Changing Your Icon and Display Name.
Don’t want to use the default icon slack gives you? No problem it’s simple to do on computer, when in slack click on your name and click on “Profile and Account” from there a web page will open, the pages you will want to use are “Profile” and “Photo”

What is slackbot!?
Slackbot is an AI that admins can configure to do a variety of things, most of these are goofy such as typing “RMN Tagline” will have Slackbot respond with one of the RMN taglines!

Thank you Nessy! I'll be sure to update it as we add new extensions and what not, all we need is a page for the slack under the community tab now!
I should add a reference to this in the New to RMN? article.

Ah, this is super helpful, thanks! Right now, I gotta figure out how to easily switch between my work slack and RMN slack. I signed up w/ a different e-mail for each, so I think the quick team switcher isn't showing up... blah :P

(EDIT: turns out I just had an out-of-date slack version!)

Anyway, this should be fun, I actually like Slack a lot :D Maybe I'll write some bots...
We should put the actual URL to the actual chat channel somewhere
