Childhood Nostalgia

Everyone has that bit of something that they look back on with fond eyes, either lovingly or bittersweet, and no matter what anyone says about it, those things hold a special place in our hearts. So, let's share some of those things with everyone. Be it a game, anime, toy, particular memory or what have you, there's at least one thing that we look back at with nostalgia goggles, so let's hear it.

I fondly recall the many childhood cartoons I watched in the mornings (and afternoons, and evenings) when I was growing up. I'd watch great shows like Transformers and Inspector Gadget while munching on my sugar-laden cereal in the mornings before school, turn on the TV after school to watch Disney shows like Aladdin and TMNT or even get up really early and catch Hercules (and piss off my older brother in the process). I remember playing Super Mario Bros. on the NES for the very first time and claiming that I would never ever get bored of this game ever (didn't pan out), and even more fondly recall the many many many hours spent grinding in Dragon Warrior. It is what gave me my warped view on RPGs to this day. Ah. memories.

Community Christmas Card

Interactive Happy Holidays Card

YDS is creating a Happy Holidays RM project!

Things are looking good as YDS creates our likenesses in-game as NPCs. The project is generating a lot of interest (and rightfully so!) so follow along and maybe get in on the action. Submissions close on December 12th.

Dungeon Crawling

Loot, progress, customization, exploration, accomplishment, nostalgia - what is the allure of the dungeon crawler RPG?

lolzallen, creator of Knight's Crest, wonders aloud about his preference for dungeon crawlers. He wonders, "Why do I have this preference for dungeon crawlers?" That is what he is wondering. I get $5 every time "wonder" appears in this article. Wonder wonder wonder. lolzallen also wonders why YOU enjoy dungeon crawlers.

In essence, what do you think makes them fun?

Adela Isra

Possibly has the most-subscriptions-per-minute?

Who made it?
StormriderAngel

What is it?
Adela Isra is two madeup words. One can assume that it is also a really good looking RMVX game.

Why should you care?
As soon as it was released upon the masses of RMN a wave of members subscribed to the game. No surprise, really, because the game looks really good!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Diablocide

I assume that your characters have stats.

Who made it?
Craze

What is it?
Diablocide is the remake of the 2008 ECA GOTY (Educated Choice Awards Game Of The Year) Demon Tower. Simply put, it is about fourteen heroes climbing a tower infested with demons.

Why should you care?
Demon Tower was the 2008 Educated Choice Awards Game Of The Year, so it really made an impact. The remake by a more mature and levelheaded Craze (thanks Karsuman!) can only be better!

Putting the spotlight on a oft-overlooked game

Legends Of Illarion

An interesting game - SilverSoul

Who made it?
Dyluck

What is it?
Legends Of Illarion is a complete traditional RPG created in RM2k3.

Why should you care?
The game has quietly amassed 1350 downloads since being posted on the site on May 17th, 2009. The masses often cry out for more completed RM projects, and yet this one is flying under the radar! For shame! Give this game a whirl now.

What? Cancelled games?! Why would we play cancelled games??!! Because they were good even if they were never finished.

1. You don't have to actually finish the game/demo, but of course you should get far enough as to where you can say you've actually played it.
2. You don't have to like the game/demo. You're completely entitled to think that the games you picked suck ass. And that brings me to my next point, and perhaps most important...
3. After you've played the games/demos you picked, give something back! This is the most important part of the whole thing! Not just a "Looks good", or "That was fun", give something more. Write a review (and submit it to the site even), post your opinions on the gamepages, list bugs you encountered, hell, maybe we'll even get something that I couldn't even have imagined. Surprise me.

Find out why these games are sorely missed! (Welp!)

The "confused" boy bares his soul to RMN.

In his own words...

RMN HISTORY:
Walp, I returned to the forums at exactly 11/18/2008 03:27 PM. Though for years prior I frequented Loose Cannon Gaming and Ghostlight, mostly the former. I used to make dem gaems but stopped recently as I've discovered I enjoy plain ole writing a whole lot more. So along with members like Canuck I just throw in my opinion every now and then and, sit back, relax, and enjoy the community.

PERSONAL BLURB:
I'm not fazed by anything horror related unless sex is involved. I listen to mellow acoustic love songs, punk rock love songs, folk, neo-classical, and shoegaze, and a whole lot of other crazy needlessly convolutely genres. I guess you could consider me a movie guy but you won't hear me ranting on about how Ingmar Bergman is the purest filmmaker and anyone who likes Transformers is a dunce. Wong Kar-Wai is my favorite director. I write like crazy: 3 novels, 3 or 4 short stories, 5 poems, and much more on the way. I like boys but fail as a homosexual. I carefully make my way through my salads so as to avoid the vegetables I don't like. Unless we're talking Caesar, in which case I eat that whole thing. There are lots of books in my home. Although I'm a voracious reader most of them have yet to be read. I'm introverted by nature but enjoy hanging out with my friends I GUESS. I do not drink soda.

SPARE TIME:
I read, write, play videogames, pass the time with my friends, watch movies, write more, drive aimlessly, drink tea, sing like Tom Waits, and all around be awesome.

FAVORITE FOOD:
Oof. Pasta is a biggie, but I really like any kind of Asian food too.

FAVORITE SAYING:
"Cupid is an asshole."

PET PEEVE:
Facebook status updates about Jesus.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
There are a plastic sword and two unopened Hannah Montana posters in my room.

Recognition for a dedicated member.

YDS for her work on Christmas Card AND for all the quirky forum posts!

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

I am very enthused to see Diablocide on here.
I liked the part where you talked about me.
Yes, good on Diablocide for the feature. I'll have to try Legends Of Illarion. My hiatus from RPG land has made me miss several good games.

Technically it isn't, Craze! Only the first "chapter" of it was.
Wow the quick turnaround for Snews 10 makes me happy.

Okay, but the legend of dirisetsu hollow is completed! Anyway, my point still stands for the purpose of this SNEWS.

...man I really hope that I at least spelled "dirisetsu" wrong because I know waaaay too much about AF and I feel like a GIANT NERD - IRC and RMN notwithstanding.

ALSO HEY DIABLOCIDE yeah you should play it if you like to control armies taking down Demons
When I first decided to check out this week's Snews I jokingly thought "hay! I wunder if I gonna gita feetchure!"...low and behold what I saw...apparently I have a lot of people subscribed to me already(I'm not sure how I find that out though. I need to go through the site more).

Damn. I was planning not to do to much updating until the demo is available but I guess I should keep the masses informed XD.I'm gonna try to get more active into the community but it always take me a while for some reason...

Seeing all those canceled games are depressing, I should give them a try out this week(already beat Era Fell though...but that was like 2 years ago)
kentona how come the link to my game goes to http://rpgmaker.net/games/2258/ instead of http://rpgmaker.net/games/46/ ? It causes it to give an error. I appreciate you featuring my games up there twice (seriously that is awesome) but both times you d-didn't even link it right.........................................
Because I secretly hate you. (fixing when I get to work)
Fixed. Sorry about that (again!)
@StormriderAngel: You go to Account > Manage Games and select your game. In the information panel on the left you can see stats like page views, subscriptions and download totals.
...and by left I mean right.
ingrid bergman > ingmar bergman

(no relation. the fact that one of ingmar bergman's wives was called ingrid is a happy coincidence)
