The Holy Church of Rmn

"The Holy Day of Release Something!"

Release Something! Day is a production festival celebrated on the equinoxes and solstices of the internationally accepted Gregorian calendar . Traditionally, Release Something! Day is associated with giving thanks to Alex for the bountiful chapsets and expressing gratitude. According to tradition, the RPG makers hosted a delegation of Translators led by a chieftan Miguel. Although organized chapset raids, map tree breaks and rampant discrimination of rips often characterized interactions between european RPG makers and peoples whose ancestors arrived thousands of years earlier, the peaceful production festival that became the Release Something! Day prototype creates a much more benevolent model for understanding relationships between the two groups. As always, the emphasis is on the "Something".

Aremen.

Some years ago I attempted to give back to the community by making audio interviews with people about their games. I managed to do two and a half interviews before my computer crashed and I never got back to it.

On the 15th Shinan released his first in a new series of interviews he plans on doing:
It's an interview with Kentona and another with ChaosProductions. Hopefully you'll enjoy them both. The episode is about an hour long but there's a bit of me talking in the beginning and end that you might want to skip to get to the juicy parts.

Episode 1
The intro music was a bit of "shit I need something there at the beginning" if anyone has any suggestions for something better to put there I hope I have a better intro next time around :)

The interview with Kentona starts at 3:45

and the interview with ChaosProductions starts at 34:25

Enjoy.

If you haven't listened to it yet, do so now! It's chock full of potential new RMN memes. It's like a Mike Myers movie or something. A is for ANDERSON, RPGs: good for making shit up, and Hockey Stick Scythe from the top of my head.

Dudesoft is back with another round of the awesome Captins webcomic:

I am going to try something new. Instead of ask for new Captins to draw, I'm going to ask for old Captins to draw.

1. Pick 2 characters from any of the available characters posted at http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/3446/?p=2 or http://www.team-captin.com/roster.php or god forbid http://www.team-captin.com/villains.php
2. Give me something for them to be doing.

Pretty simple. Keep it clean though. I refuse to draw anything sexual. Violence is alright, since this isn't canon or anything.
That's it!

**NOTE**
Please include a link to each Captin / Villin you want to use, just so I don't have to go digging around. There's a LOT of characters! lol

Your Game Sucks (still)

A necropost revived the topic and discussion is spurred once again!

It's the age old tale of "Make What You Want" vs "Make A Good Game" argument, but it is entertaining nonetheless! (Nothing much is going on in Game Design okay?)

Neo Lescia

Hi I am waiting for this badass demo.

Who made it?
Lennon

What is it?
Neo Lescia is New Lescia, which is Italian for "New game using Rudra chipsets".

Why should you care?
The screenshots have been generating a lot of commotion among the Top Hat Brigade (and a few other members) and it is readily apparent why: the game looks great! Lennon is using the (overused?) Rudra chipsets effectively. People are eagerly awaiting a demo.

Putting the spotlight on a oft-overlooked game

Astyanax: Wrath Steel

Wow... Absolutely wow... This looks damn near professional! Fantastic job! - Shmeckie

Who made it?
OracleGames

What is it?
Astyanax: Wrath Steel is an incredible looking RMXP game recently posted on RMN.

Why should you care?
Despite the creative and effective use of Baldur's Gate rips AND a demo download, this game is getting next to no attention! Did I mention Baldur's Gate rips? Try this game out. The lack of attention is damn near criminal.

This installments's Play Something! Challenge

THEME: It Is Befuddling Why These Games Don't Have Reviews
"You loved that girl very much and you killed her because of your crazy love."- Clock of Atonement

Clock of Atonement by daigo
DotPlus! by hima
Elegy's Eve by Rei-
Bipo: Mystery of the Red Panda by redpandagames
Befuddle Quest by kentona & co.

For some odd reason these puzzle games have no reviews yet. Some of them look pretty rad, too!

1. You don't have to actually finish the game/demo, but of course you should get far enough as to where you can say you've actually played it.
2. You don't have to like the game/demo. You're completely entitled to think that the games you picked suck ass. And that brings me to my next point, and perhaps most important...
3. After you've played the games/demos you picked, give something back! This is the most important part of the whole thing! Not just a "Looks good", or "That was fun", give something more. Write a review (and submit it to the site even), post your opinions on the gamepages, list bugs you encountered, hell, maybe we'll even get something that I couldn't even have imagined. Surprise me.

Maybe there is a reason why no one has reviewed them! (Welp!)

geodude

Rad Sunglasses Time!
..:: This guy manages to maintain a perfect 0 makerscore ::..

Because geodude complained mightily and constantly on IRC about being a SNEWS Spotlight, he jumped the queue and got spotlighted. Damn squeaky wheels...

In his own words...

RMN HISTORY:
i originally joined in june of '07 and proceeded to make 13 posts (not the similarly named film) before falling off the wagon a little (good job really because i was a terrible person). i made a TRIMPHANT return in april '09 and have been SETTING THE WORLD ALIGHT since.

PERSONAL BLURB:
i am an 18 year old british-irish layabout who enjoys the music of mark knopfler and dire straits, some video games and football. do you know how much i enjoy football? take the most it is possible to enjoy something and multiply it by a googolplex (this is not mathematically precise but you get the idea). as it happens i am an avid fan of birmingham city but really i just enjoy great footballers and great teams. my all-time favourite player is undoubtedly johan cruijff and my current favourites are kakà and lionel messi, but choosing between them is like choosing between a ruby and an emerald: both are utterly exquisite but for different reasons.

SPARE TIME:
guess what? i like to make games! unfortunately i have not done any serious game making for a long time but watch this space folks, soon i will be free to make the most electrifying games ever to grace your hard drives !!! ... i am also a guitar player and i like to make music.

FAVORITE FOOD:
THIS QUESTION IS NOT PERTINENT TO THIS DISCUSSION (it's a well-seasoned sirloin steak of course)

FAVORITE SAYING:
"I never make mistakes because I find it very difficult to be wrong about something." - johan cruijff

PET PEEVE:
people with pet peeves. have some perspective people! >:(

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
until a couple of years ago i was a young trainee at walsall FC! i have always had dreams of being a footballer since i was a tiny child and it was a great experience.. right up until a completely horrible injury pretty much put paid to that little ambition (for the medically minded i tore my medial ligament and ruptured my anterior cruciate ligament). it was great though, and every few weeks we'd train with the first team. being on the ball with anthony gerrard (cousin of liverpool man steven) and danny fox (now at celtic) was unbelievable. Recognition for a dedicated member.

Shinan for his great work on the new interview series.

I say this is great. With the early prototype picture of me as well!
All events require a sexy banner. It is in the RMN Charter.
More proof that Hidden Gems are based on screenshots alone. (I'm saying Astyanax: Wrath Steel really sucks).
Yeah, but so many people go gaga over screens that I am amazed that its so low profile! Remember, I don't play games - I just try to uncover games that seem wrongfully overlooked. I do know that Astyanax was up for a Project of the Month at RMRK (though it didn't win). So, that kind of recognition + fancy screens + low profile on RMN == Hidden Gem potential

That's my maths.
I think the recognition part is misdone because the quote specifically said the game looked nice also RMRK seems pretty dead so any 'project of the month' nomination would seem voted by 1 person/friend or something.

I can't blame you for being RM Miyamoto but sometimes I think Hidden Gem should be based on 'played' recognition and have more games that aren't shiney on the outside but hard on the inside. It's just a suggestion, maybe it's my fault for not reviewing that game in the first place.
It is completely your fault and I am blaming it entirely on you.
....and if Hidden Gem was limited to games I've played I would have run out of games by about SNEWS #6
Man I love this website. The Shinan interview was awesome. I can hardly wait for more Snews and more interviews.

You mean the headings? Because I haven't gotten around to it yet.

You guys better damn well like these SNEWS because without constant praise and recognition I don't work hard.
