..:: Special Edition: Spotlight Issue ::..

Since I do not have the energy or wherewithal to write more SNEWS at the moment (and don't see that changing any time in the near future) I am going to release a special edition that showcases the three interviews I have been sitting on for the past two months. Enjoy!

This welp (check the Gender of their profile if you don't believe me!) is the mind behind the much-anticipated RPG Maker 20XX

In his or her or welps own words...

RMN HISTORY:
I originally found this place when Googling about RPG Maker 2003 for nostalgia's sake. This website caught my attention because of the Game Pages- and I thought it might be fun to try it out by going back one last time and making a game in RPG Maker 2003. Over time, I began to copy over my tutorials from other places and started new projects.

PERSONAL BLURB:
I've been programming for roughly 10 years and started in middle school. I've been programming video games and designing them like some sort of religion all that time. Currently, I'm studying for a degree in Computer Science with a minor in the Japanese language. While I do like Anime and play mostly games from Japan (and MMOs from Korea), there are a few western games I like too. I've had to draw my own graphics and compose my own sounds and music sometimes because years ago I didn't have my own Internet connection. Because of that, I also like to draw sometimes and especially like pixel art.

SPARE TIME:
I can usually be found either working on one of my own game projects, or playing some Korean MMO. Aside from that, I'll watch movies with friends and family but I usually watch Anime by myself (the stuff is too weird for the normal human being >.<).

FAVORITE FOOD:
I'll usually eat most things if it doesn't have cheese or vinegar in it. I like meat done very very well done, and East Asian foods (Japanese, Chinese, Korean). I really don't like French or Italian. I really don't like alcohol, and I love coffee and Monster drinks.

FAVORITE SAYING:
I don't really have a favorite saying out of the many I like.

But one does come to mind:
"Even if the voices aren't real, they still have some good ideas"

PET PEEVE:
Creationists (Intelligent Design proponents, or whatever the hell they're calling themselves these days), and anything gender-discriminatory or biased in that nature.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
I used to know how to play the piano.

YDS

Welping Westward

..:: Games :: Reviews ::..

This girl is a powerhouse on the rpgmaker scene, creating great titles time and again (currently working on Americana Dawn: The Long Goodbye).

In her own words...

RMN HISTORY:
I aimless hung around GamingW for awhile, but I was intimidated by the huge crowd. I went to GhostLight for a little bit, but eventually settled down at RMN. I've pretty much been here consistently for the past year or so. I've made a few silly games, but my serious projects is The Long Goodbye, a JRPG about the American Revolution, and Bit Bonton, a game where you explore a world created by vaporware games . I have other warehoused ideas, but I am pretty tied down and serious about what I have on hand.

PERSONAL BLURB:
My name is Max; I'm just some dude. I am a pretty sunny and outgoing person. I live on a whim. My friends tend to say I am a strange person because I exist on both polar sides of any personality continuum! Extraverted by introverted, outdoorsy but indoors, neat one day and a piece of trash the next.
Sometimes I wonder if I should even had a plural to 'friend.' :( I am just at university right now working on a triple major while working on my thesis. I have no intention of pursuing game making - it's simply a long time infatuation.

I like to drift and hobo out in random places across the globe and country, so sometimes I just vanish for awhile. I probably will vanish to a new location this summer so I hope to finish The Long Goodbye. I am also known for attracting disastrous situations and somehow cheating out of tragedy ever so slightly! But I anticipate on living a very short life because 1 Up Mushrooms are limited.

SPARE TIME:
I don't think I have much spare time considering the workload that I have - even when I stand in line, I have a notepad out and I am scribbling something in it: ideas, to-do-lists and new thoughts. I suppose when I did have spare time, I really enjoyed hiking, camping, playing games, making games (the one hobby I pour my time into, still!), reading and listening to talk radio.

FAVORITE FOOD:
Hamburgers, sushi, pho, dim sum, bim bim bap, Korean BBQ

FAVORITE SAYING:
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." - H. D. Thoreau

PET PEEVE:
People who make promises that they can’t keep.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
i am a crucial member of #shmup

Shinan

The voice behind Shinan's Interview Series and (pretty much the only) proponent of Adventure Game Studio on RMN!

In his own words...

RMN HISTORY:
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I was looking for tools to make my own game because that had been a dream since kindergarten when I drew platformer levels in crayons and had stick figures walk through them.

So I came upon a list of gamemaking sites and stumbled upon RPGMaker.net. There I downloaded Acid Pulse (as it was the first on the alphabetical list) and was completely lost and bewildered. Then I downloaded PGmaker 2000 and things got a lot simpler. That night I made my first game.

Then I moved around RPGmaking sites together with the community. Finally ending up on Gaming World and then returning to rpgmaker.net a bit after it returned.

PERSONAL BLURB:
I'm Shinan. I'm pretty much a giant nerd who never finishes anything. I'm also a Swedish-speaking Finn which I try to point out as often as possible because I'm hugely nationalist.

SPARE TIME:
N/A

FAVORITE FOOD:
Meat. I really like meat. If it's been on a grill and it's summer and it's so good and right now it's cold and a lot of snow outside and I'd really like it to be summer...

FAVORITE SAYING:
"Inte behöver man stressa, det ordnar sig nog till slut." or "Man får inte vara dum för då blir man fort vuxen."

I'll let you google translate those or something.

PET PEEVE:
When people just don't take the time to write something correctly. Unironically using "u" or failing at "they're/their/there". I just can't take a person like that seriously. (Bad grammar doesn't annoy me nearly as much as bad spelling. Probably because English isn't my first language)

Also anyone who spells Tolkien "Tolkein".

LITTLE KNOWN FACT:
The only organized sport I've done was powerlifting when I was in my early teens. I even got a silver medal from the national Finland-Swedish competitions.

Thanks ankylo for his hard work patching and improving RMN!
