With the news(That I only just found out about) of one of not only my favorite Rpg Maker games, but one of my favorite games in general going 3D. I thought I would write up this little article. But as I got further into the idea, I'm now thinking it can be used for more then just one game. So this will probably become a monthly thing for whenever I play through games of old. Well, lets begin!

Let me just state the obvious. This game is gorgeous, it consists of 100% custom made graphics. Not only that as some of us know brandonabley is also quite the composer and has created an amazing original soundtrack to accompany those pretty pictures & tiles. When I personally first saw the game at GW all those years ago, I was blown away. Pretty much everyone in the community was as well. One thing lingered though.. Would it ever see the light of day? Luckily for us, it did! Wilfred the Hero is even to this day, still just as good to play through as it was almost seven years ago, boy does time fly. From the moment you see the title screen, you know you're in for something special. You're drawn in straight away by the imaginative art style, music and talking frogs.

If you haven't played this gem yet, you really should. It has all you could ask for out of an Rpg Maker game & more.

(One of my overall favorite games)

A non-battle RPG, taking place throughout the seasons of the year of a city under siege. You play as Lohn, a young boy who fate has made the sole survivor of the town. Going through the streets in desperation, Lohn meets a nobly dressed man, who offers him a chance to bring his hometown back to life. Without knowing his intentions, Lohn accepts on the man's offer, and the game begins.

Sunset Over Imdahl was made in rm2k and utilizes hand-drawn backdrops over tile-based mapping. The game is short, containing only a few hours of gameplay, however, is a completed project of the highest standard.

Wait, Wilfred is being made in 3d? 0.o Sweet!

Also, I wrote a review of Imdahl a while back thinking I could post it to this site...but it doesn't have a game page. If someone wants to make a prfile for it then I will post the review on rmn.

Anyway, great games. Teo is a legend.

You would have to contact Teo himself if you want a game page put up.
feel like the art direction is plain and weak in the 3D version (but its a demo reel so who knows) as opposed to the RM one's purple and orangey weird colors that I adored so much in teo's work.

this is a good idea btw, i kind of want to steal it

I feel the same way actually. The art direction of the 3D version kinda caught me by surprise. Thanks, I thought so too.
Wilfred the Hero was surprisingly deep now that I look back on it.

And Sunset Over Imdahl remains one of my absolute favorite RM games of all time. So poignant, so pretty, so very moving.
arent you supposed to be dead
I don't my the art style at all in the 3D version (at least the outdoor scenes), but I agree that the original's art style was more imaginative.
I always thought that if Wilfred the hero was ever turned into a 3D game it would've looked a bit more like Sony's "Folklore" with it's use of faded greens, vibrant oranges and dark purples.

Wilfred kind of had this "other world" feel to it - well, not just "another world" . But like, an unsettling summer day that would never end or simply went on for longer then it should. I thought that somehow they'd be able to nail this look in 3D. I dunno.

Definitely looking forward to more of these articles Tau!
