Mapping Explainer I know my mapping isn't the best, but I'll go for it anyway. Tayla, the protagonist, is a young, underaged socialite on an interstellar cruise ship, taking people on "adventure cruises" to the farthest reaches of where mankind can safely explore. At the start of the game, you see the cruise ship's destruction. It's not explained in game, but if I have time, I'll probably animate some asteroids hitting it. In story, the reason is an asteroid impact. Tayla doesn't know this so the game doesn't explain it yet. I definitely will only be able to make a demo for this. Her escape pod crash lands on the second planet in the Vega star system. Map Example 1: This doesn't use any lighting tricks. It's simply White Screw's nighttime forest chipset, so it's in dark colors. This is the second map you find yourself on, the landing site being a rather largish map. At this point, she's trying to find shelter. At this point in humanity's history, humanity has colonized Mars, and many of the Jovian and Saturnian moons. No habitable exoplanet has ever been found, and Tayla seems to have found herself on the first one. Map Example 2: This is the curve of a cliff. Tayla has discovered that this planet is inhabited by intelligent aliens. They're harmless, inoffensive creatures, but they are molds with a collective intelligence that places them on par with humans (and actually exceeding). Tayla learns from her alien friend that she is not the first human here, and that a corporation dedicated to food production has been here long enough to not only establish a permanent presence, but have built a regular highrise to accommodate the employees that come to this planet. They've been here for a long time, and they've never informed the colonies, referred to in game as The Commonwealth. Tayla has seen the building and is climbing the cliff to get to them. Map Example 5: This is the area below the compound. I don't think it's a great map, but it has my so far favorite waterfall display. Tayla explores this area on the way to map example 4. Map Example 4: Upon arriving at the facility, Tayla is treated like a five star guest. She learns that since her situation is no longer an emergency, nobody is coming to get her, so she'll have to wait for the corporate transport. To accomodate her situation, she's given an apartment. The CEO is very nice, but it's apparent she has some very dark reasons for hiding the existence of an inhabitable, abundant exoplanet from the Commonwealth, and the resources put into this facility, it's clear that the government is well aware of it. This is the map of her apartment. This map is complete, but the apartment is not. Another room is going to be placed under the balcony. Map Example 3: The CEO is very interested in these intelligent slime molds. To Tayla's face she's interested in the notion that an creature previously dismissed as a lower lifeform could actually be of human level intelligence, but behind closed doors, she's terrified of the thought that the Commonwealth might discover that her company is exploiting a sentient species in the most ghoulish way imaginable. First she needs proof. In this map, Tayla joins several mercenaries exploring a largely untouched region. They'll have to descend these cliffs and fight through the carnivorous animals that live on this planet.
