Description

Unity is an integrated authoring tool for creating 3D video games or other interactive content such as architectural visualizations or real-time 3D animations.

Unity provides an integrated development environment (IDE) with hierarchical, visual editing, detailed property inspectors and live game preview. Projects made in the engine can also be deployed to many different environments, including Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Xbox360, PS3, as well as on the web via the Unity Web Player plugin.

There is a free version of Unity available for download, with a trial for Android deployment.

What? It's still free to download.
Well, it not anymore "free". sad.
I highly recommend getting the free version of Unity then purchasing the $65 Playmaker plugin from the Unity Asset Store. If coding scares you, this eliminates that entirely and makes things easy as pie.

Current version is 2017.1 and version 2017.2 is being released by months end (supposedly)

Also payment is now under a subscription model, you could go plus for $35/mo but the 2D assets you would getting for free is pretty nice.
