Description

The 2011 RMN Summer Games is a game-making contest, the goal of which is to make a game within one month. A theme will be announced at the start of the contest to ensure equal footing and development time for all participants, but otherwise just have fun making games!

-The contest will begin on August 1st 12:00 AM GMT and run until August 31st 11:59 PM GMT. Entries must be completed during this time frame.
-You may work with a team of any size to make a game.
-Your game may be made in any engine and may be any genre, not just an RPG.

-You ought to have permission to use all art, music, or other content. Rips will be frowned upon. How the content was created does not matter so long as you have the rights to use it.
-The game should run on Windows XP or higher. The judges should not require any additional components to play your entry.
-Show good sportsmanlike conduct towards your competitors.
-Most important rule: Have fun!

-All games will be required to loosely incorporate the theme (TBA. The theme could be anything from a setting to an abstract concept.)
-Entries started before the allotted time will be frowned upon. Entries submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. Extensions will be granted only in extraordinary circumstances. PLAN AHEAD.
-All entries will require a gameprofile.
-You must submit your entry to the event page (using the submission tools below).

That's sounds really pressed for time! You might be better off using RTP resources to shave off a bit of pressure! The game might not be what you wanted to make, and it might be "crappy", but you'd have something!

As for submitting a game to the event, I think you can submit a still-pending download to the event, so long as it's within the time period? Not sure about this, myself...
No, I tried to test that out and check. Nope, and really I at least want it to look slightly good. Hopefully I can get the help I need! Wait! I have an idea, I'll use the time for one game to pend and be approved to make the other game, once the first game gets approved, I'll possibly stop the other game soon. Because my other 2 games I have to work on, gr... That's alot of work for a kid, but I'm going to have to put my work into it. Hope to see the finish of the actual game soon, and your right, I would have something even if it WAS crap, but I seriously need to start putting effort into my games for people to play them.
@pyrodoom calm down and stay chill. Panicking won't help you. This just means you will have to cut down a lot <:3c
I feel sorry for the judges this time. You're never gonna want to see a chapset again.

By cutdown, what do you mean?
Strip elements from the game that aren't really needed. Make it leaner. Less work.
You should really just be making one game if you're so pressed by time anyway.
I know, but 1 of my games gave me an idea for another game, and then I wanted to join this competition so, well, you see. OH! And I've just uploaded the gamepage for one of my tries and I'll see if I can get someone to approve it for this competition. Then my plan won't have to go through all the way.
One question about the theme.
So it has to be a surreal game. Like, I think it was named here already, for example a game which is about a space funeral. Something you don't see every day.
Also the game mustn't or shouldn't be a rpg...?
What if I do a game which has many action elements and minigames.
Would this be able?
Hope for an answer.^^

It's not so much "a funeral in space", as Space Funeral. As for limitations, games submitted to this event need not be an RPG at all. It can be a platformer (*stares at the SMBX team*), or an action-adventure. So long as the game fits the theme, the game can be whatever genre you want, so long as it's made, submitted within the deadline, and a stand-alone (no RTP requirements).

Well, that's how I understand things, anyway!
It looks like the wombat studios are going to create a very elaborated one-month game

Ohh yeah!
I see so many talented people here... it's going to be awesome :3

I wonder how many people will actually submit though. Once we actually did a contest where only one person finished in time!
that was the best contest ever
Question regarding rule : The judges should not require any additional components to play your entry.
Is the 2k3 RTP exempt? Everybody here should have that...

I think that rule mostly means they shouldn't need to buy a specific graphics card.
Yeah I have it so it shouldn't be a problem for myself. Pretty sure the same applies to max and calunio as well.
As for the theme, you can explore it anyway you want. It doesn't have to be an RPG.

RTPs shouldn't be required. I happen to have 2k3 RTP, not sure other judges will have. I don't have XP RTP though. I recommend you guys be careful with stuff like that... judges will probably have to play a lot of games, so game-crashing bugs, missing files and stuff like that will probably have your game not be played to its entirety (or played at all).

Btw, Mario is a very surreal game in itself. You enter pipes and go to completely weird places. You jump on turtles and they lose their wings. If it was original/new, it should be considered an extremely surreal game.

You are right n.n' I Have see mario since I was consious. Maybe that made me to see Mario as the normal thing in the world XD. But well, I just hope the Mario game by Jackalotrun be more surrealist that already is.
Ah, thanks for your answers.
I could use own graphics, but have already started making my game with edited XP RTP.
But with the XP maker it's no problem to make it a "stand alone".^^
