Are you ready for the excitement of the 2014 Indie Game Development Contest? Now is your chance to grab the spotlight and become a renowned indie developer!

This is the RMN event page for RPG Maker Web's big contest
RMN is not hosting this event. This is a place for RMN members to congregate and showcase their game submissions for this massive event.

June is going to be a massive month for us. Not only is RPG Maker being featured in a Humble Bundle, but June is also National Game Development Month. To celebrate, we here at RPG Maker, in partnership with Humble Bundle, are holding an Indie Game Maker Contest for the entire month!

Here's the best part: there's no restriction on genre or engine! Games will be separated into two categories (RPG and non-RPG) and judged for their presentation, gameplay, and fun factor. Feel free to use any engine you want and make any kind of game you desire (as long as you follow the rules, of course). The games must be complete, though, so be sure to budget your time carefully! We do recommend keeping the play time to under one hour, as the judges will typically stop playing at that point.

This is your chance to have a blast and create that short, creative game you always dreamed of and win a huge prize! If you're an aspiring commercial indie developer, this could be a golden opportunity to put your name on the map!

Contest Timeline
May 29 - June 30, 2014 – Game Development period. Create an awesome gaming experience!
June 30 11:59PM UTC – Deadline for submissions. Completed games only. No late entries will be accepted!

Late July/Early August – We will hold a podcast in which we talk about the contest, the winners, and more!

This event page is long overdue! Deckiller is such a slacker that I had to do it. But it's here now.
And a good job you did, too. I like the grey. It reflects how my soul will look after this event is finished and all the games are played. ;.;

Honestly this CSS is all u need who cares about images that clog up everything.
I'll try to leave a single splotch of color on your otherwise monochrome soul, Liberty. I just hope you like unnecessarily intricate prog metal boss themes, because I just spent the past thirteen hours composing one.

What the hell am I doing.
I've signed up, even though I don't have a solid game idea yet. Hopefully I'll come up with something soon.

Honestly I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with! I've heard about one or two projects from friends that seem super rad, so HEY who knows what else will happen!

Either way, I'll be prepping my confetti canon for the end.

I felt it was high time to put my team up there! My entry is already getting close to complete! (Relatively)
I checked my progress against the grs script and I am ahead of schedule! I got an idea, made and changed scripts so the game part looks like it works, collected and organized graphical assets, made some maps, and started a gameprofile! All that's left is to find music before properly letting the dust settle. At this rate I'll have free time to watch some old kung fu flicks later!

Probably a silly question, but are there any standards of quality? Is it fine to submit a 5-minute game?

Well, the official contest is judged, and they said there's gonna be a preliminary screening for each game. This is conjecture, but my guess is the screening is to eliminate games that break the official rules or games that are totally and utterly incomplete. They also recommended games be no longer than an hour.

Anyway, from what I gathered, if it is complete or "feels complete", a short game isn't a problem.

What is the preliminary screening?
The preliminary screening is a quick playthrough of the first few minutes of each game submitted. From this pool, we will determine if each game "makes the cut" - if so, they will then be subjected to our formal judging process.
so much for my 30 hour epic I had planned.

Think I've managed about 20-25 minutes worth of content so far. Currently my main problem is balancing: I've never properly used VX Ace before so getting the hang of damage formulae etc. is a bit tricky. Might have to set aside a good couple days for extensive playtesting/rewriting formulae, gah

For those that don't have Ace, it is in the Humble store for $24.99 - still an amazing deal!
