Description

Hi there, welcome to another event to celebrate RMN's birthday! This year the site turns 12 years old!

You all voted and the winner of the poll was...
Abrupt Ending

An abrupt ending is still an ending... of sorts. It's not as simple as shutting down the program - but is more along the lines of just cutting the story at a place where some things are rounded off but other things are still left hanging. An easy example would be if getting out of Midgar was the end of FF7 or if Chrono Trigger ended when you got back to your own time. Another example is if a game ended after the hero loses a cinematic, cannot-win battle instead of carrying on the story.

Rules
- Start making on the 8th of June
- End making at Midnight (site time) of the 16th of June
- Game must be at least 10 minutes long
- Full games only
- Any engine, any assets. If you intend to make graphics for the game, you may start now, and planning on paper outside the engine is allowed. No in-engine starting though!
- No game pages necessary. Just upload straight to the page.
- Be as silly or as serious as you like, as long as it falls within the rules of the site.
- Games must have an abrupt ending!

Prizes
- A 40 MS badge for any games that follow the above rules.
- Three random people will get to choose a game from Liberty's Humble list (there's literally hundreds...)

Uploading and Timezones
To upload to this page, sign up below. When your game is done, compress it into one file (via winrar, 7zip or engine self-compression) then hit the Submit link in the top-right of this page. Browse to find your file, then hit upload. Wait until the page redirects. Note: you can only upload 450MB of data, so please make sure that you remove any excess files.

To see when the event starts and ends in your timezone, click on your name in the black bar at the top of the page, pick Account in the top-right, then click on Settings and add your timezone offset. Save and you will note that on the event page the date/time has changed!

Unfortunately the second video was lost due to Twitch deleting vids after a set amount of time.

I'm in. Events are the only times I actually seem to make anything.

Welp, I've decided to drop from the event. I have finals approaching and don't think I'll be able to give gam mak a proper go + I have literally no idea what I could make.

So, best of luck to everyone that participates! I hope as many people as possible can finish a game for RMN's 12th Birthday! :D
I've worked out my abrupt ending after reading a lot of TV Tropes. Going to work backwards from there.

Oh... That's a pity. I hope you will do well in your finals. I still have NO IDEA what to do, I only know one thing: TO KEEP IT SIMPLE.
Unsure here too, but I mean, it's my precious one week vacation. There's homework, art projects, lovey-dovey time and so many things to do.
On the plus side, I have a good idea that I could expand or keep simple if needed.
Well, seems like I'll be off to a pretty late start ...
But at least I'll have most of the assets ready and a hopefully solid idea about what I wanna do.

Good luck, Ozziah!

I'm at work till 8pm every day from now till 16th, so I don't have much free time on my hands. Plus I need to write two papers and create a portfolio till 12th, but I love birthday events and I came up with a challenge for me (basically a condition to make it possible for me to make anything)

2x6 challenge has two rules:
1. You have six hours
2. You have six abrupt ends
Spent the last week coming up with all kinds of ideas for a "break out of prison, your chosen party member gives you one of four different abrupt endings" game.

I sit down to work on it and immediately go "You know what, no, I have a better idea. Let's make a cliche RPG gone hilariously wrong instead". XD
So is it tacky to use the abrupt ending as an excuse to just introduce some interesting story elements, then end before bothering to properly develop them?

Because that's definitely what I want to do.
Holy moley, RM2K's damage formulas are a little weird. Got the combat system of my 4 characters basically set up, but everything just feels WEIRD. I'm not sure how much defense or offense to give to lead to a half-decent fight instead of a curb-stomp either way.

Basic intro scene is done, leadup to the intro boss is done, and I'm already loving this main character.

Can't wait to actually get this semi-reversed Don Quixote train wreck really rolling.

Go for it, who's gonna stop you? ;)
Welp, this is the first real game project I'm trying since a game design class I took a while ago. Wish me luck on actually making something.
I got a good start on this one.

Cap_H, seems like we have a similar core concept. I wonder how similar the games will play in the end.
Decided to focus on the story content first, will balance combat later.

I'm juuust about done all the story events. Just got one last leg to go through.

As much fun as I'm having with these characters, I'm glad it's an Abrupt Ending Party. I don't know how much further I'd be able to carry this game's joke. XD

Once the plot's done, going to balance the combat, set up the shops, throw in some NPCs, and my entry will be done!

Don't feel bad, man. I just have waaay too much time on my hands at the moment, and when I over-focus, I churn out story and events real fast. It also helps when I'm not really taking it seriously either. XD
Make the start of a game with the hero party out to defeat the bad guy when after the obligatory cave dungeon another hero party you saw briefly defeats the bad guy off screen and your party just kinda calls it the day once they hear the news.

That's actually a good idea... But I wanted to go for something dark. Idk really. Thanks for the tip though :) (if you meant me)
