Description

Welcome to the Arcade Heroes Community Project/Event. In Arcade Hero, you, the community make the arcade games. Once all of the games have been submitted (deadline August 1, 2013), Space_Monkey will combine them to make a playable business simulator where you are the arcade owner with a catalog of games made by the community.

When finished, arcade owners will spend their hard earned coins to unlock and buy games from the submissions to put in their arcades.

Rules:

1. Do not talk about Arcade Club.Tell everyone you know.
2. Mak a gam in RPG Maker VX Ace. You can use VXAce Lite, a free version of VXAce.
3. Finish it by the deadline (AUGUST 1, 2013).
4. Submit a game alone or as a team.
5. Team can equal 1-infinity
6. Team cannot equal < 1
7. Try to make your game fit the world (8 bit-like).
8. Post what you are making so that we don't get 50 pac-mans.
9. Don't suck. I'll try to get a reward for the best ones.
10. Post the switches/variables you plan to use so we can keep a list of the ones that are taken/in-use displayed on the game page. ONLY TAKE WHAT YOU WILL NEED.
11. Try to limit your games to 10 events on a map. I'm not going to buy ace unless I have to.
12. Are you still reading? Go mak a gam champ.

:0 coolio! I'm so signing up for this. Is there a limit to the amount of maps you can use, or...?
Think of this like a Befuddle Quest game - it would be best to keep minigames to a single map, and use Recall To Location (or whatever the equivalent is in Ace) with variables instead of straight up teleport events (if you need to teleport). Also, try to avoid using common events and scripts if you can.

I have absolutely no clue what I want to do for this, but I'm in anyway!
Suggestion! Allocate a chunk of variables and switches for temporary use. It's hard to gauge exactly how many s/v's you need at the start of a project and having a block of s/v's you can use for mid-game use would help alleviate that. For example if I made Space Ships vs Galactic Bugs I could use the temporary s/v's for game entity's collision and request maybe a dozen s/v's for permanent storage like a high score list. Just clear the temporary s/v's to OFF/0 once a game starts so they have the same initial state*.

* or don't and laugh at bugs caused by not setting then reading temporary variables in a volatile state!

Are limited to single-map games? If not, are there limits to anything other than that?

I'd love to see some screenshots of what's already available to get a gist of what it has to look like.
I'm just wondering, you said that it needs to be created in VXAce or VXAce Lite. Is it ok if I create my own engine and create it from scratch in a programming language like c#? Or is it only restricted to games created with VXAce/VXAce Lite?

It has to be created in VX Ace or Lite because the final compilation of all the minigames will be made in a VX Ace project (so they need to be all of the same engine to be compatible)
This could be fun... or very very bad.

I don't see why it couldn't be both

I think I'm going to make a game similar to Frogger for this. I want to make a game with Seals and icebergs. :D
I'm going to try and make an RPG then. (I mean, come on, it's Rpg Maker.)

Doesn't mean you can't make anything else but an RPG. :D
I shall be going with a Bomberman inspired monstrosity.
So we don't have to submit a game profile, right? We just have to send in the projects so they can be put together?

I may end up doing something if I can muster up enough will-power to open rpg maker. -_- ...Or I could join a team.
It *should* be set up such that you upload the file directly to this event page and its locker. You don't need to create a gameprofile or use your own personal lockerspace or anything
Are there any other limitations besides it being 8 bit? Like, does it have to be really short or really difficult? Or can it just be a more simplified version of a full game?
It can be short and a simplified version of a full game. #1 priority is that it just be fun.
So how do we know which switches/variables we can use? ^^
