Description

Game Chill is a winter game making contest, the goal of which is to make a game in a little over three weeks. Entries will be commented on by a quartet of judges and ranked accordingly. A simple theme is given, but the point is to just have fun making games!

THEME
Design a single winter-themed dungeon for the player to navigate through.

You are required to include in this game at least 3 items from the following list, in some way, shape or form:
  • Gingerbread Men
  • Prayer
  • Frosty the Snowman's hat
  • Hockey
  • Fancy dinner party
  • Bing Crosby

RULES
  • The contest starts now (December 19th, 2013) and goes until January 9th at 11:59pm GMT. Entries must be made during this time-frame. Existing games and projects are not eligible entries for this event.
  • Only completed games are allowed
  • Teams of any size may work together to create a game.
  • All art, music, and sound should be original, public domain or purchased by yourself. When you made it is not important so long as you have proper rights to it. Entrants may stray from this rule if they wish, but should expect harsher judgments towards ripped content than original.
  • Your game must run on the Windows platform. Your game should not require any additional components that a judge would have to purchase or download.
  • Games should come with a readme.txt file of some sort, describing how to play the game, listing any resources used that are not yours, and describing what components the game needs to run.
  • At the end of the contest, 4 judges will rank each game using their own scoring system, and provide commentary for the entries. The final outcome will be determined by the judges. A winner and a runner-up will be selected.
  • Entries not submitted by the end time will not be accepted.
  • Extensions might be possible, but will be granted only by popular vote and judge approval (ie. don't rely on it). If extensions are given, they will apply to everyone, for fairness. If an extension does occur it will be only a few days at most.
  • Your game can be of any genre, not just RPG. (You don't need to have battles, for example!)

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
  • Step 1: Sign up for the contest in the "Registration" section below this event description. You can enter this event solo or as a team. Additionally, you may submit as many games or join as many teams as you'd like.
  • Step 2: Create your game page. Normal submission rules apply.
  • Step 3: Post your download to the game page once it's approved.
  • Step 4: Submit your game download to the contest by using the commands on the upper-right corner of this page.

PRIZES
All participants who successfully submit a valid entry to the event will receive a participation achievement worth 50ms. The winner will receive an additional 100ms achievement for being so awesome. (Hey, not every event needs hundreds of dollars in prizes! This event is "old school RMN".)

Good luck and merry Christmas!

Have event overview, will travel!

Considering the general lack of response to post-event stuffs from the other judges, this may be the only post-event thing happening for this event. Unless there are schemes going into motion?
Congrazzles to craze and all the rest ^ ^
I look forward to more game makes : >
Congrats to Craze! Any feedback from the judges, what you liked, didn't like, would've changed, etc?
It’s over… This long, dwindling nightmare is finally over…!

Oh well, it still ended up being pretty fun in the end.

Congrats Craze for taking home the top prize and the rest of you for putting up with such a valiant effort for this. Lord know I couldn’t do it.

(…And somewhere out there, in the midst of all this celebration, Rachel continues to still be M.I.A…)
I motivate people with promises of makerscore.

Were there only 6 finished games for this? I could have got into top 6!

Eight games, actually. Craze's Czarina Must Die and Link_2112's The Legend of Frosty couldn't quite make the precise submission deadline, but were part of the consideration anyway.

To my knowledge, there isn't any post-event stuff (such as a podcast) planned. I had thought of doing an article posing my thoughts on each entry, but the idea sort of fell off the radar.
I would feature it if you wrote it.

Damn, that's tempting!

Congratulations to both Craze and Moga!!!
I'd also like to give a formal thank you to everyone involved with organizing the event as it helped sorta break me into RMN's community (as in... ice-breaking ba-dum-tsssssss), it also aided me with a much clearer perspective on my own creative cycle, how much energy was needed and how it should be distributed. This was both a significantly fun event as well as a great learning experience! Though I didn't win, I am still excited as ever to further my work and all future projects will be taking from the great experience I had during this event! Once again I'd like to give an over-arching congratulations to the winners, the other contestants, and "the slowest judging panel in the entire wooooooooorld."(he said it, not me)

In any case, was there any formal post-celebration stuff planned at all? Like a podcast? Or is it really just straight back to "gam mak?"

Definitely the latter, Craze.

Wooooo! I'd like to think that this is because people enjoyed the game, not because I was the one who pestered this topic the most.

For all of those who forgot that this hasn't been resolved which is everybody, I'm proud to finally announce...

We have a winner and a runner-up!

Our winner is...

Our runner-up is...

As a representative of the judging panel, allow me to apologize profusely (Profusely, I say!) for being so late with our deliberation results. We had no contact with Racheal since late-January, and we didn't really want to not include her full input. I dunno, maybe we could have had out our results mid-February, but I think we may have secretly been hoping she'd get back to us. It may not the happiest situation for us, but we believe that it's high-time to just get this out of the way, and move on with our our regular lives gam mak.

On a lighter note, congrats to Craze for winning your check has cleared the bank, and to all the contestants! There were some really neat games here!

Results will be posted this summer. Stay tuned!
I don't usually ask this but was that sarcasm or...?

Nah, he’s right. The rest of the judges and I are planning to goof off until the summertime when Kentona will invite us all over to his private beach resort in Miami, Florida while playing a game of twister while trying to balance a giant beachball on the top of our noses and then settle down for a good ol’ fashion Mario Kart 64 multiplayer best of seven death match where the winner will decide on what flavor of ice cream we should all go out for afterwards.

…And then we’ll finally pick a winner for this thing, I dunno.

But in all seriousness, we are pretty close to announcing a winner for this very soon, probably sometime during the first week of March. We’re still waiting on word from one of the judge’s final picks, but the rest of us have pretty much confirmed on who we ultimately think is going to win and who the runner-up is.

Despite all this – we’re still the slowest judging panel in the entire world.

It's Kentona, don't mind him.
Except for when you should.
