Description

The last few years have been rough, especially for those who are part of the LGBT+ community. This month is Pride month, where we come together to celebrate finally being able to come out legally in society and be treated as equals by law.

Of course, with every step forward there are people against. Many people have stories of disregard, disrespect, hate and other negative interactions aimed at them, even over the course of this year. We could get down about the horrible things that might happen in the future, that have happened in the past...

OR

...we could celebrate the good things that have come from the fight for our rights to be who we are and love who we do!

And what better way to celebrate than to

So, your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to make a game that is positive in nature and focuses on either a main character who is LGBT+ or LGBT+ as a theme.

- Start making on the 22nd of June. Finish by midnight of July 14th.
- Games must be at least 10 minutes long.
- You may GATHER resources before that date and make notes about the game, but don't actually start creating (resources or in-engine content) before the official start.
- Games must be positive in nature, especially in regards to LGBT+ themes, and should handle with care the topics you choose to represent. Hate speech is explicitly not allowed and this includes things like killing or flinging insulting remarks towards other groups. People are people, even if they're assholes. Keep it happy, folks! No dark depressive themes here! We're celebrating after all!
- Games must have either a main character who is LGBT+ and focus on them, or the theme based on LGBT+.
- Games must have an approved game page. Get that done and in early!
- Any engine, any resources.
- Please keep in mind that there will likely be a stream for the games, and that youtube is ornery about musical and video use in games. Let's NOT get people's accounts content struck by using stuff like, say, The Emporer's Theme from Star Wars or Warner Bros clips in our games.

- Everyone who takes part will gain a participation badge, worth 20 MS
- Full games will receive another badge on top of that, worth 50 MS
- Every game added will go into the draw for a free game.

I just want something that looks nice, not looking for a specific kind.
Alright, event has started!
Let's goooooooooooo!

(...after I get home from work, in my case.)
Yikes. Another event ...

One question: does a "kinetic visual novel" (i.e. a VN that offers no meaningful choices and is basically only a story to read) count as "a game" in this context?

A second question: is the entry allowed to start off two sad stories - as long as there's a happy-ever-after resolution?

to clarify, should every story beat be positive/silly or can it have a rough climax but an overall positive message/ending? i've had a story i've wanted to do for a while about ghosting and femme-shaming within the gay app community but... could always do something else XD
A kinetic novel... probably wouldn't be considered a game. I know some people definitely consider them games, but let's be honest - part of playing a game is _doing_ something that affects the world in some way. Even walking simulators allow some kind of interaction with the world, after all. So I'm going to be a snob and rule no, sorry. ^.^;

It can have some drama, but a happy ending of a positive nature is needed at least. We're not trying to focus on the horrible stuff we go through as LGBT+ peeps, but on the good side of being such. Celebrate the gay and all that jazzhands. I won't say no to something sad as long as it ends with something positive and good, though. Just... yeah, keep in mind why we're having this event.

There's enough assholes out there trying to bring us down without having to down ourselves, but triumphing over evil (tm) is always an uplifting thing (well, unless you're playing one of those antihero type games where things get worse because evil (tm) was actually doing some sort of good for the world and your efforts to destroy evil (tm) has ended up making your life and the life of others much worse. Please don't do that for this event.)

Fair enough. I'll tweak my idea or try something else.

Hmm. I can get your point.

OK, since I won't have the time for starting a(nother) game-game at the moment I think I'll better pass this time, then.
I have problems with making things that are too big in scope, but I'm gonna do my best to control myself on this one!

I gotta make SOME kind of gay thing during this, the month of Gay, ya know?

If anyone wants to team with me, feel free to PM me! Otherwise I might contact one of the peeps who advertised their availability earlier. ^.^

Nice! XDDDDDD
I may not be gay myself but I'm all in to celebrate!
EDIT Even though I may not be able to make anything for this event.
"The last few years have been rough, especially for those who are part of the LGBT+ community."

You guys should actually do some research, instead of being blandly sympathetic. I don't like generic sympathy, as I've mentioned before. I like people actually knowing what a situation is like.

Gay marriage is legal in pretty much the ENTIRE US. Period. Supreme Court decision and everything. If you can find a place to marry you, you can get married anywhere in the US. Not all churches will, but who cares, just go to another one. I dunno outside the US, but I think it's generally easier than 15-20 years ago.

To be clear, this is not me hating on the LGBT community. This is a "what are you smoking? I've never felt things were overly tough except maybe not being hired much, but I had that problem before I was openly genderfluid."
Seriously, people in my support group were talking about how 15 or 20 years ago, there was basically no internet about being transgender, so people had no connections, nobody to turn to, difficulty buying clothes or the like, and often died on the street. If they weren't killed by people, who were able to get away with it due to the gay panic defense. This is actually a time that I'm happy to be alive.

I have NOT noticed anything overly rough. I live in a small town as a genderfluid person. I can go to church, I have been to the YMCA, I can go to work either male/female. I worked for two straight years at a library! Nobody complained, despite encountering the general public regularly. I can go to a thrift store in a small town, and the shopkeeper lets me buy a dress or skirt whether I'm dressed as a male or female. This is not a liberal town, either. It's moderate to conservative.

-------------------------

I'm not sure I'll make a game or not. If I do, it'll probably be an Oracle of Tao side-story, either Nevras and Ambrosia (a femdom/transfeminine relationship), or Azrael and Anideshi (two femme lesbians).

You must vote. Which one would be cuter?
